Throughout the colonial period, Mexican residents have been fighting a tenacious struggle against Spanish colonial rule. The main participants in this liberation struggle were Indian farmers and the urban poor.
In the 18th century, many Indian uprisings occurred in Mexico. The Indians of Chiapas were oppressed by the colonial authorities and bishops, and they held an uprising in 1712. Under the leadership of Juan Garcia, Gaspar Perez and Juan Lopez, an Indian army of about 20,000 people marched towards the capital of the province to the Spanish colonial authorities and the local Catholic church. It's a big blow.
The Spanish colonists sent troops to suppress the uprising. After months of bloody battles, the colonists brutally suppressed the uprising.
