Chapter 58: Pershing led U.S. troops into Mexico

Views:

On March 31, 1916, two weeks after the U.S. army led by Brigadier General John Pershing arrived in Mexico, they defeated Villa’s army in the first battle.

The battle took place early in the morning. A fast-moving American cavalry unit led by George Dodd drove 55 miles in 17 hours and then launched a surprise attack on the barracks in Villa in Guerrero. After five hours of continuous fighting in a cavalry squad of 400 men, more than 30 of Villa’s 500-man army were killed and many others were injured. Four American soldiers were slightly injured.

According to Pershing’s bulletin, Villa himself was not present this time, but others reported that someone saw Villa escape in a carriage. He can't ride a horse because he broke a leg, probably when he fell off his horse. This American crusade was ordered to enter Mexico after Villa crossed the border and attacked Arizona and New Mexico to hunt Villa.
