Damon himself didn't care.
He is no longer at the age of calling friends, and recently he has become addicted to comics.
If he and Luke had not shared life and death in the hijacking case, he would not have gotten too close to young people.
Back home, Selena sat in front of the bay window and looked towards New Jersey.
Luke poured two cups of hot chocolate and handed one to her, "Still thinking about Damon and his daughter?"
Selina took a sip and the feeling of not being full was suppressed. "It seems pretty good to see them starting their lives again."
Luke: "It's a personal choice. Look at Dustin, he's still working hard in his early forties!"
Selena was speechless.
"It's all a personal choice." Luke also sat down, looking at the Hudson River and New Jersey across the way: "If there were no comics to rely on, Damon might not be able to adapt to this kind of life so quickly. But Mindy..."
He said this and shook his head slightly.
Selina also sighed: "This girl is..."
Here she paused.
She wanted to say "ruined", or "crooked", but it seemed a bit awkward to say that.
Luke: "We are just talking, so what's there to worry about? Damon taught a violent loli who goes beyond the rules of ordinary people. This is not something to be happy about. Fortunately, he used to be a good policeman, and he did not make any mistakes in instilling the concepts of good and evil in Mindy. It's just that his methods were too extreme."
Selina looked at his expression and asked, "What plans do you have for her?"
Luke shook his head: "Just watch and give her some necessary guidance. Even if she chooses to be an ordinary person when she grows up, that's good."
Selina was surprised: "Have you ever thought about training her to be our helper? Her current strength is not that great, but as long as she is equipped with the right equipment, ordinary superpowers will not be her opponent."
"I chose this path myself." Luke turned his head and looked at her: "You also chose to be with me. So, I won't make a choice for her. It's better to control the path of life in your own hands."
After a moment of silence, he continued, "She will only come into contact with V. I won't let her know my true identity, so she can quit at any time."
Selina stared at him. "So I can't quit?"
Luke laughed. "No, you can quit just the same. Maybe go back to being a rancher or something, herding sheep and cattle."
Selina frowned, "Huh?"
Luke patted her head: "Because, I don't mind you knowing those things."
Selina made an "oh" sound and quieted down. She picked up the hot chocolate and drank it slowly, staring at the falling snow outside the window, lost in thought.
Luke didn't say anything else. He just sat quietly with her in front of the window, watching the snowflakes dancing in the sky.
…
Two days of peace passed, and at noon that day Harry called.
"I've almost finished my work. Take Molly to see Kilgrave's body today," she said on the other end of the phone.
"Ok, let's meet outside the forensic center at 2pm?" Luke agreed without hesitation.
"Okay." Harry said straightforwardly.
At two o'clock in the afternoon, Luke and his friend waited for Harry and Molly's family outside the forensic center.
When he saw Luke again, Molly's father Richard was even more grateful. He took the initiative to shake his hand and thanked him repeatedly, and his businessman's shrewdness disappeared without a trace.
Although he is rich, his home base is in Boston. The people he knows most in New York are chefs. It is not easy for such people to directly influence NYPD and lead people into the morgue.
Moreover, that would definitely require favors.
Luke, however, offered to help without asking for any favors.
Apart from feeling extremely lucky in his heart that he had met a good policeman who only appeared in movies and TV dramas, he could only say thank you.
Molly's mother stood beside Molly and didn't come forward, but she also looked grateful.
Luke didn't take it seriously.
They worked on the case for so long that many of the victims' families burst into tears of gratitude when they caught the murderer.
Molly's family's reaction was just normal.
Luke didn't mean to delay, he just reminded: "I have an appointment with the forensic doctor, we should go in quickly, their temper and patience are not very good."
Harley also decisively assisted: "Yes, their work has been in a backlog for a lifetime. It is better to start earlier so that we can have more time."
After a moment, Luke smiled and said to the black female medical examiner, Lani: "Thank you for your help, Lani."
Lanny waved her hand nonchalantly: "It's okay, I still have a report to fill out. You know the rules. Call me when you're done." Then she turned and left.
Luke nodded and watched her leave.
Lannie is Beckett's relation.
Although John and the others could find people to help, Luke was too lazy to use these more personal and effective relationships to handle this kind of semi-official matter.
Beckett had just said that he could come to her if he had any problems, and he did so without hesitation.
As for favors, they require frequent exchanges between each other. The more times you repay debts, the higher the trust and closeness between people will be.
For now, as he is unfamiliar with the place, there is no need for him to hold on to favors from others. He should use them when the timing is right.
He is too new in NYPD, and no one would dare to use personal connections to make him do anything illegal in the short term.
Luke beckoned to Harley at the door, and she came over with Molly.
Molly's parents were left outside, unfit for the morgue or to be present during Harley's treatment.
In the morgue, only Luke, Harley and Molly were left.
Luke had to be there.
This is the rule that forensic pathologist Lannie just mentioned. Otherwise, she would have to be there to watch to avoid any problems.
There are many strange things in the world, and there are even more strange things that happen when identifying bodies in the morgue.
Acts such as dragging out corpses and beating them can only be considered "normal" abnormal conditions, while stealing and destroying corpses are not uncommon.
What's even more bizarre is that the deceased's friends wanted to have a farewell party with the corpse and brought in champagne and cigars to party.
Therefore, a forensic doctor or police must be present when identifying a body.
Luke silently retreated to the door and watched Harry bring Molly to the open drawer-type freezer. After coaxing her for a long time, he finally let her face Kilgrave's body.
Molly, who had been a little dazed, suddenly reacted violently. She cried and laughed, cursed and hit, and knelt on the ground sobbing and tossing for a long time.
Luke just watched in silence.
He didn't care at all about the minor injuries on the body, and Lannie didn't care either, since Kilgrave's autopsy report was out anyway.
If nothing unexpected happens, this body that has no relatives claiming it will be buried in a public cemetery after a while.
Molly now had no problem with just a few soft thumps.
He just silently took note of Harley's actions, including the language she used to guide her and the way she adjusted Molly's emotions during the process.
