Chapter 121: The murderer, solved the case, and got away

She would be able to get the latest news from Luke as soon as possible about whether this case would involve her buying weed.

Thinking of this, Ginny picked up the business card and carefully put it into her purse.

Luke's interruption made her feel a little relieved. At least she felt that he was just a small policeman and she could pay a large sum of money to find out information for him.

But Luke didn't think so.

Ginny was actually buying weed from some gang of dealers, which was simply a spawning point for him.

As long as he kept a close eye on her, and even established a little false friendship with her, he might be able to catch a big fish from her.

Luke had just arrived in Los Angeles and he already felt the importance of money.

The informant network he is about to set up will require a lot of money.

Now that Katie's case has been solved, he can consider purging the dealers who provided Ginny with illegal drugs to help him get out of the urgent financial crisis.

After returning to the police station and following Elsa into the forensic department, the two began to watch the surveillance video they had just obtained.

However, with the video footage from David's house indicating the time, the two quickly found the fleeting black shadow.

This person appeared twice in the surveillance video of Ginny's house, once in and once out. He went in at 3:35 and came out at 3:57. The total time he appeared in the video was 30 seconds.

Unfortunately, the man's face was covered by the hooded sweatshirt, and he intentionally lowered his head, so his face could not be seen at all in the surveillance video.

However, his height and size are clearly a major improvement.

Elsa didn't get impatient this time and continued watching the video with Luke.

Look back from the time of the incident, one section at a time.

Ginny's family only kept one week's worth of surveillance footage, and there weren't many people passing through this path, so she could fast forward through it quickly.

As the video was playing back to the evening before yesterday, Luke suddenly shouted, "Stop!"

Elsa pressed pause subconsciously.

Luke: "Go back a little. Yes, yes, right here! Elsa, do you see this man?"

Elsa narrowed her eyes and looked at the paused screen. In the evening sunset, the man was walking towards the surveillance screen. He just turned his face to the side, and a small piece of slanting sunlight illuminated his lowered face.

She said, "Send the technician in and have him compare his size with that of the suspect."

Soon, technicians came over, processed the people in the two videos, and finally used computer modeling to generate a character model.

In this way, the two people with different postures become a comparison with this character model. (Realists, don't delve into it, this is a plot in CSI, and this technology should not have been popularized in 2003 in reality)

After the two images overlapped, the technician said with certainty: "The match is 92%. Considering that the other person may have deliberately changed his clothes and body shape, it is very likely that they are the same person."

Elsa was also excited: "Enter this person's face into the facial recognition system and check if there is any record."

The technician got to work immediately.

Elsa took the photo and went to Dustin's office with Luke.

Just as he placed the photo in front of Dustin, the head of the major crime team frowned and said, "Sergei Mazanov?"

Elsa was stunned: "Boss, do you know him?"

Dustin: "This guy is not with us. He is the leader of an Eastern European gang in New York. I accidentally investigated the case and read his information. He is a ruthless person who will kill an entire family for a small grudge. Why are you investigating him?"

Elsa: "He is the suspect in Katie's murder."

Dustin: “What?”

Dustin got a headache when he heard the answer.

This is trouble!

If nothing unexpected happens, this guy must have returned to his lair in New York after committing the crime.

This also means that if they want to continue investigating the case, they will have to work with the New York Police Department, and there are really a lot of problems involved.

The point is, this guy is a gang leader.

The New York Police Department may not be willing to confront this gangster head-on for the Los Angeles case.

Some Eastern European gangs are notoriously brainless and ruthless.

They will fight as soon as there is a disagreement. If they are pushed to the limit, they dare to use bombs, RPGs and other things in the city. This is definitely not for scare people.

Is the NYPD willing to take the risk of something major happening for the LAPD's case

Dustin waved his hands in a headache. "Go check it out first and make sure it's this guy who did it. Then the case will be solved. Arresting him is another matter."

There was nothing he could do about it.

After all, this case wouldn't be a perfect ending if the person wasn't caught.

The onlookers will not consider the real problems the police department faces in law enforcement, and will only say that the West District Police Department is incompetent.

However, the wealthy people in the upper class should understand this, and then the pressure on the West District Police Station will be much less.

Interstate law enforcement in the United States has always been a difficult problem, and often requires the intervention of the FBI.

However, few local police officers are willing to ask the FBI to share the credit for nothing. Unless there is really no other way, they will never take the initiative to ask the FBI for help.

Elsa and Luke came out, looked at each other, and could only smile bitterly and shake their heads: This case is really depressing.

With a target in place, the subsequent investigation will be much easier.

Soon, a message came from the forensic department: the DNA paternity test between the dead Jane Doe and Sergei passed, with an accuracy rate of 99.99%.

So, the anonymous person is actually Sergei's biological son.

After finding out this much, Elsa and Dustin didn't have to think too much and roughly understood what was going on.

No matter how Sergei's 200-pound fat son died in Katie's swimming pool, there is no doubt that Katie was angered by Sergei.

This guy even took action himself and drowned the little star Katie in the swimming pool using the same method.

Katie's autopsy report has not come out yet, but Elsa learned that there was residual anesthetic in her body.

Apparently, Sergei knocked Katie unconscious and threw her into the swimming pool.

So no one in the villa heard the cry for help, and there were no obvious signs of struggle afterwards. Katie just drowned quietly in the swimming pool.

The case is basically solved at this point.

But Elsa and Dustin both looked a little sad, but they were in a much better mood than before.

At least now it is just a matter of arrest, not of finding the murderer. The performance of the West District Police Station is enough to give an explanation to the outside world.

Luke was in no mood to sit around in the office with these two middle-aged men and women, so he just said that he had just moved in and had a lot of things to pack at home, and then he left happily.

The reason why he left so quickly was because the system had already given him a reward for solving the case.
