Luke laughed as he listened from the store entrance.
It was a conversation mixed with a lot of Mexican Spanish, and God knows which illegal immigrant was making the call.
Little G had no choice but to change another wire, and this time he finally got a long beep sound.
He was overjoyed and quickly dialed a number: "Catherine, it's so good to hear your voice again. You can't believe what we have been through. Well, God knows what we have been through..."
After a while, the three of them came back with a look of relief.
Nick smiled and said, "Okay, the patrolman and the medical examiner are here. Listen, Shirley, Slick, you need to go back to the police station and make a statement."
The proprietress and the clerk acted as if they didn't hear anything and continued to hang around there. One even smacked his lips and made a hissing sound.
Not long after, the patrol police and the medical examiner arrived.
After asking a few questions, the patrolman prepared to take the two sticky middle-aged men and women back.
Luke stopped them: "Wait a minute." Everyone looked at him.
He raised his hand and pointed at the wood-burning stove in the restaurant. "Officer, I think you'd better go with the forensic doctor to check out that stove. There seems to be something abnormal in it. Find it out, and go back and ask the boss lady and the clerk."
The patrolman looked at him in confusion, and a capable woman with blonde hair spoke up: "Let me do it."
Nick: "Katherine, let me help you."
Luke then realized that this blonde woman had the same name as his aunt.
A moment later, a burnt skeleton emerged from the charcoal ash in the stove, and everyone looked at the proprietress.
Shirley stood up in shock: "This is none of my business. I didn't even know this was there."
Everyone's eyes turned to Slick beside her.
Slick shook his head quickly: "I don't know either, I'm just a clerk."
Everyone: … You two, no matter how you look at it, look like a pair of cheap husband and wife!
More than an hour later, everyone returned to the forensic center, all with relieved expressions on their faces.
It’s only been half a day today and what I’ve encountered is so fucking bizarre.
Luke also went to the autopsy room to join in the fun. When he entered the room, he saw an old man who was not tall, with both legs prosthetic and silver hair and beard. He was leaning on a cane and listening to a country music. An espresso machine was working next to him.
He felt strangely familiar.
Just then, Old G came over. When he saw Luke, he just nodded and said nothing. Then he went to find the old medical examiner: "Al, where is the report I wanted?"
Old Medical Examiner Al: "It's over there, get it yourself. Well, do you want to have a drink?"
Old G actually didn't refuse. He took the small cup of freshly ground coffee handed to him by Al and tasted it slowly. He asked casually, "This coffee machine is good. Where did you get it from?"
Al also leisurely savored the coffee in his hand: "I applied for it in the name of the morgue."
Old G looked puzzled: "You can buy a coffee machine at public expense here?"
This is a fine espresso machine, which is definitely not a necessity, and the autopsy room is divided into different areas and shifts.
There are only four forensic doctors in Al's autopsy room. How could they be provided with such expensive coffee machines
Al smiled faintly and took another sip of coffee: "No one wants to know what the forensic doctor buys for."
Old G: …
Nick: …
Luke: …
After watching for a while, and seeing Old G about to leave, Luke finally couldn't help but ask the old medical examiner, "Dr. Robbins, do you know a medical examiner named Mars? He should be a medical examiner in a small town in Texas."
Al looked thoughtful, and nodded after a moment: "If his name is Mars Kubrick, then he should be my former student. However, we haven't seen each other for a long time after he finished his internship here."
Luke smiled and nodded: "Yeah, as expected."
Al: "How do you know him?"
Luke knew that what the old forensic doctor meant was how he knew the two were connected.
He explained with a smile: "Because every morning when he goes to work, he must drink a cup of freshly ground coffee and listen to music before he can officially start working."
Al chuckled: "What a pity, he must have bought the coffee machine with his own money. He is still the same... hehe." There was still a bit of complicated emotions in his tone.
Luke no longer disturbed the work of the old forensic doctor Al, who was also a technical expert. Old G's attitude towards Al was obviously equal, which was much better than his attitude towards his boss.
Of course he also had to respect the old forensic doctor.
After coming out of the morgue, Luke said goodbye to Old G.
Old G was already investigating the case of the model killer and had no time to accompany him, so he could only agree to meet him again before leaving.
Luke agreed readily and went out with Selina.
Old G was in the office, watching Luke walk to the elevator. He thought for a moment and called Nick: "Hello, it's me. Have you noticed my nephew's behavior today? No problem, remember to write a report on what he did today and give it to me for a psychological analysis. What? This isn't your official job. It's a test from me. Just find some time to do it..."
Here, Luke turned his head to glance at Old G's office which was already obscured by other laboratories. With a slight smile on his face, he shook his head slightly, and walked into the elevator with Selina.
At this moment, it is already four o'clock in the afternoon.
We set out from the authentication center at 9:30 in the morning and it took us almost six hours to go around Henry's pig hiding place and come back.
Selena was in a pretty good mood. She had played a prank today, encountered two strange and bizarre cases, and also witnessed how a woman forcefully kissed a man. She felt very satisfied.
But her stomach was empty: "Honey, I'm hungry. I want to eat barbecue, pork chops are best."
Luke smiled and nodded: "Let's go back to the hotel to eat, and then we can go to the entertainment hall to play."
As they were talking, they took a taxi back to the Aurora Hotel.
Although Selina said she wanted to eat grilled pork chops, she ended up eating a special lobster, French snails, croissants, onion soup, and a fruit platter before she stopped eating in satisfaction.
Luke paid the bill, smiled and hugged Selina, who was limp after eating, and the two went to the entertainment hall.
Selena didn't want to move, so she chose a slot machine and sat down.
Neither of them cared what the slot machine looked like, but that chair looked the most comfortable one around, just perfect for someone to lie down on.
Luke glanced at the slot machine and pointed to an electronic display screen on it with a smile: "See? This is the grand prize, $973,662. If you swipe it out, you'll be rich."
Selina wasn't that interested, and she wasn't that naive: "I'm not that stupid. This money was thrown in by people who wanted to win the jackpot before. Just let me sit here and you go and have fun."
