Poker suddenly realized.
He was surprised when he saw Luke at noon. Like most people in the police system, he doubted how such a young guy could get into the serious crime team. He was not old enough at all.
Now that he heard Luke say this, he actually felt it was normal.
The night supervisor of the LV authentication center is a top-notch technical expert in the United States.
The network of connections of such professionals may not necessarily be strong, but it is certainly wide, and it is not too difficult to get one's nephew into a local police station as a detective.
Poke didn't hesitate any more and took Luke to the police station.
Many police officers in the police station are still working overtime.
This small town still has tens of thousands of people, and the police station is naturally not as small as Shackelford's. There are more than a dozen people still working there.
Poker brought a young man in. Some asked him a few questions, but some were busy with their own things and didn't pay any attention.
Poke casually drove away the idiots who were blocking his way, and took Luke to the evidence room. According to the numbers, he found several boxes and opened them. Inside were various sealed evidences.
Luke: "Are there any gloves here?"
Poker shook his head: "Shall I go outside and find you a pair?"
Luke rejected the suggestion: "Forget it, it will attract too much attention." As he said that, he took out a pen and opened the evidence bags.
He did not touch the evidence with his hands. At most, he picked it up with a pen and flipped it slightly to check.
Poker was ashamed: it seems that when the police officers like him collected evidence, they didn't pay so much attention. He had an uncle who worked in the LV forensic center, and the details were different.
Luke looked through many of the evidences very quickly, taking only a quick glance at them before putting them back.
He only spent a longer time looking at the clothes on the first pair of victims, Cathy Becker and her boyfriend Steve Erce, for a total of five minutes.
Then, it was said that the mask and hood thrown away by the suspected murderer were found outside the girl Sidney's house. He also observed it for about a minute.
During this time, he closed his eyes from time to time, as if thinking about something.
Poker was watching from the sidelines and was curious: What is this operation? You come to check the evidence, why do you close your eyes
But Luke didn't explain, and he didn't dare to ask.
It took about fifteen minutes. Luke nodded, "Okay." He quickly sealed the evidence bags and put them all back into the evidence box.
Poker put the boxes back on the shelf one by one.
The two men came out of the evidence room and reached the hall, when suddenly someone called out Poke.
Poker looked over and said, "Dewey, what's going on?"
This was a relatively young policeman, about twenty-five years old, with a small moustache.
He glanced at Luke with an unpleasant expression and said nothing.
Poker turned his head and looked at Luke. Luke understood: "Uncle Poker, I'll wait for you outside."
Poker nodded: "Okay, I'll take you home later."
Luke waited outside for less than ten minutes before Poke came out with a gloomy look on his face.
After signaling to Luke, the two walked to the police car more than ten meters away from the gate. Poke whispered, "The murderer just made a threatening call to Sidney who is temporarily staying at Dewey's house."
Luke was stunned: "What?"
He understood immediately: "In other words, Billy's suspicion has been cleared?"
Poker nodded grimly.
Even the most suspicious and obvious suspect has been ruled out, so the case has to be started all over again.
The news is not very good.
Luke's mind raced for a moment, and he nodded slightly: "Poker, then you go ahead and do your work. I'll go back alone. We'll leave after we finish looking up the information."
Poker waved his hands impatiently. "Since you are my relative, it is not appropriate for you to live outside in this situation. I have a lot of empty rooms. I will send you back and ask Bailey to clean up two rooms for you."
Luke thought about it and didn't refuse: "Okay, thank you, Poke."
Poke just nodded, told him to get in the car, and took him back to his home. Then he just said a few words to his wife Bailey and got in the car again and left.
Bailey is a traditional housewife, a little overweight and a bit nagging, but a nice person.
She smiled and exchanged a few pleasantries with Luke, then went to clean up the guest room for the two of them.
Seeing Luke come in and close the door, Selina put down the file in her hand and asked lazily, "What did you find?"
Luke: "Poke just received news that the murderer made a threatening call to Sidney."
Selina thought about it and was surprised: "Ah, that Billy is not the murderer?"
Luke chuckled: "That may not be the case. Don't forget that many serial killers actually have accomplices."
Selina nodded thoughtfully.
Luke continued, "So, it's a good thing that Billy was released."
Selina looked thoughtful, and after a moment she asked tentatively, "You mean, he might continue to commit crimes?"
Luke: "Why else would he be so anxious to have his accomplice make a phone call to clear himself of suspicion?"
Selina was surprised: "Is it really him?"
Luke thought about what he had just found in the evidence room and nodded slightly: "It's 80% likely that it's him, but he has an accomplice."
Selina: "Who?"
Luke smiled and said, "You have seen this person...
Selina frowned and thought for a long time, then shook her head: "I can't think of it. We met a lot of people today."
Luke: "Just a reminder, that guy had a small conflict with us."
Selina immediately remembered: "You mean, the boyfriend of girl No. 10?"
Luke nodded: "Yes. However, I have no evidence. Next, it depends on the performance of these two people."
If it were someone else, they would definitely ask him a few questions about why he could make such a judgment.
But Selina knew that Luke had his own privacy. He would say what he could say, and there were reasons for what he didn't say. She certainly wouldn't delve into it too deeply. She just needed to continue analyzing it from here.
She just frowned in confusion: "I don't have Stu's information. Although Billy is from a single-parent family, his family conditions are good and there is no news of abuse. They are just two high school students. Why would they use such a terrible and high-profile method to kill people?"
Luke: "When Poker was chatting with us, he said something. Do you remember?"
Selina: "Which one?"
"If it were twenty years ago, I would definitely say it wasn't him. But with kids nowadays... who knows!" Luke slowly repeated Poke's words.
Selina was also silent.
The pace of society is accelerating, and all kinds of information are impacting people's three views at an accelerating rate. The era of information explosion has arrived.
A series of problems that arise naturally arise from this.
It is a recognized fact that children are maturing earlier and behaving in a more adult-like manner.
It's not surprising that Billy and the boyfriend of girl No. 10 did something really crazy.
