The smell of blood belonged to the man in the couple, named Steve.
The smell of dog blood, if not surprisingly, should be from the dog of the naughty kid in the town below the mountain.
Luke didn't go into the house, but ran quickly through the woods, following the smell of Steve's blood.
Mixed with the smell of Steve's blood was the smell of his girlfriend Jenny, and the smell of Annie.
The reason why Annie called Luke was probably because she received a call for help from the couple.
When chatting with her, Luke said that he was a policeman by profession and worked as a safety instructor at the campsite of No. 37 Middle School.
But if she called the police directly, it would be unknown when the police would arrive.
This is not a town, but a deep mountain forest at night. The police are also human beings, and they are also afraid of car accidents when driving on mountain roads at night.
Luke moved extremely quickly and soon ran several hundred meters before finally stopping in front of a dilapidated wooden house near a pond.
He approached the cabin and whispered, "Annie, don't make a sound. I'm Luke."
Annie still let out a small cry inside, but she swallowed it down halfway through.
Only then did Luke push open the shabby door of the wooden house and walk in.
The situation inside was quite tragic.
Steve was lying on the ground, covered in blood, his eyes full of fear and despair.
Seeing Luke coming in, he trembled all over after a moment and looked extremely frightened.
Jenny quickly whispered in his ear, "It's Luke, it's the police."
Steve looked over with a little more hope in his eyes.
But he could no longer speak, his lips were trembling slightly and turned pale, and he had obviously lost too much blood.
Anne and Jenny were also covered in blood, but they were not injured, just stained with Steve's blood.
Luke gestured to the two of them to keep quiet, then quickly turned on the flashlight and checked Steve's injuries.
After a moment, he handed the flashlight to Annie, asking her to help with the lighting, and frowned and asked, "Who did it?"
Jenny said in a trembling voice: "It's those kids."
Luke: "The group in the town below the mountain? Six people, all 16 or 17 years old, and one of them is a girl? With a dog?"
Jenny nodded repeatedly: “That’s them.”
Luke had taken off the backpack behind him, pulled out some medical supplies, put on a pair of rubber gloves, and began to cut open the clothes at Steve's wound.
He continued to ask: "Why do they do this?"
Steve's injuries were serious, but they were not the kind of serious injuries caused by a sudden and brutal knife.
When a child gets angry, it is easy for him to do something ruthless, commonly known as not knowing how much harm he can do. This is also the reason why many people die as a result of these children.
But Steve had more than ten wounds on his body, and the wounds were not smooth, but twisted and overlapping.
This kind of cut shows that the opponent did not attack directly in one go, but cut relatively slowly, probably pausing in the middle and repeating the cut several times.
To put it bluntly, this kind of wound is more like execution or sadism than simple murder.
This situation is a bit scary.
Jenny watched him rescue her, hope ignited in her heart, and she began to explain what had happened before: "He, they stole our car, and we went to look for... Steve found the place where they were growing weeds and wanted to take the car back. They let the dog out, and Steve stabbed the dog... They rushed over and grabbed him... Later, they tied up Steve and took turns cutting him with a knife..."
Luke just listened quietly without interrupting her.
Jenny's words may not represent the facts, or may not be the whole truth.
But to his keen sense of smell, he could indeed smell a very slight amount of fresh "weed" on Steve and Jenny.
Anne also added a few words, such as Jenny carried the injured Steve to ask for help, and just when she called Luke, the group of children ran over to look for them.
At Annie's reminder, Jenny used clothes to temporarily stop the bleeding on Steve's body, and threw a piece of bloody clothes on another road.
The two girls helped Steve hide in the dilapidated cabin, thus avoiding the children who were chasing them.
Based on the words of the two women and the various situations that had occurred before, Luke was able to come to a rough conclusion.
Perhaps Steve and Jenny had a fierce conflict with those children, but it was by no means normal for a group of children to do such a cruel thing to Steve.
After all, even if a normal child suffers a loss, he or she should go to his or her parents or call the police instead of arresting the other party and taking turns beating them with a knife.
Normal children are not so cruel.
As he thought about it, Luke quickened his movements.
After giving Steve an anesthetic, his wound was quickly cleaned and then bandaged with gauze.
This is just a temporary measure to relieve Steve's blood loss.
The good news is that although Steve was stabbed so many times, his major blood vessels were not injured, so he could still be rescued after he was sent down the mountain.
After Jenny finished telling the story, Luke asked Anne, "Where is your uncle Stephen?"
That group of naughty kids chased them to the camping cabin, but Stephen, the owner, didn't come out to stop them. This is very abnormal.
Not to mention that Stephen was alone, there was an old double-barreled shotgun in the cabin, which could be used to scare off a few naughty kids.
Annie shook her head. "He said he was going to check the wires this afternoon. It seems that those kids damaged another line. He left in the afternoon and hasn't come back since."
Luke was speechless.
These naughty kids are so annoying, they have never done anything good.
“Is that pickup truck still at the campground? And the keys?” he asked.
Annie: "Yes, the car keys are hanging on the wall next to the living room door."
Luke quickened his movements and treated Steve's injuries. He said to him, "Bear with the pain. I'll help you over."
Steve could only nod slightly to show that he understood.
Luke used only his left hand to help him up: "Come on, follow me back to get the car and go down the mountain to take Steve to the hospital."
Jenny: "But those kids..."
Luke reached in with his right hand and pulled the Glock out of the quick-draw holster: "If anyone dares to point a knife at me, I will be happy to shoot a few suspects who attack the police."
Jenny finally reacted: "You..."
Annie quickly explained: "He is a policeman."
Luke was too lazy to take out the police badge from his inner pocket.
If Jenny doubted even the person who helped save her boyfriend’s life, then he didn’t bother to pay attention to her.
Jenny responded quickly: "Thank you, Luke."
Luke just nodded and said to Annie, "I'll keep an eye on you, don't worry, just follow me."
"Yeah." Annie nodded vigorously.
Four people pushed the door open and walked out.
The sky was dark at this moment. There was a loud thunder and a rustling sound, and the rain began to fall.
He didn't hesitate, just said: "Let's go."
