Chapter 554: Eat, drink, and work hard (2 more)

Half an hour later, Selina looked at the various pastries in the window and murmured, "So this is how you work overtime."

Luke said confidently: "Don't you see how much we are consuming now? How can we investigate the case on an empty stomach? Lucy, help me get some snacks."

The waitress Lucy came over with a smile: "Luke, long time no see, what kind would you like today?"

Luke smiled and nodded, pointing at a row of pastries: "Ten of each of these, please."

Lucy was surprised: "Are you sure?" Luke had just pointed at more than ten varieties of pastries.

Luke smiled and nodded: "There are three people in the family who can eat. If we don't buy more, there won't be enough to share."

Lucy was only slightly surprised, but didn't care anymore, because this big customer always bought a lot of cakes every time anyway.

Otherwise, how could she have such a deep memory of him? Moreover, he was very handsome, which made the impression even deeper.

The two men went out carrying a large pile of boxes, putting some of the pastries that were not afraid of tipping over in the trunk and the rest in the back seat.

Luke said to the dog-head in the back row, "Gold Nugget, be careful not to knock it over. There's your favorite strawberry cream cake inside."

The gold nugget immediately stretched out a claw and pressed on the pile of boxes.

Luke nodded in satisfaction: "Very good."

Selina: "Hey, half of it will be mine later, not all for you."

"Oh, oh, oh!" Meidao blinked her small black bean-like eyes, looking confused.

Selina: "It's no use asking Meidao to act cute, half of it must be mine."

The US dollar tilted its big head and looked at its little master innocently, while a certain alien dog head simply pretended to be deaf.

Luke drove off, saying, "That's easy. It can't eat the cake by itself. You can throw as much as you want to it when it eats."

Selina thought the same thing: "Haha, having hands means you have an advantage."

Gold Nugget silently lowered his head and looked at the dog's paws, feeling extremely aggrieved: What a scoundrel! If Luke hadn't forbidden me to break the rules, I would have conjured up hundreds of tentacles and would have been able to grab the cake a hundred times faster than you!

Fortunately, Selena was just talking.

Sitting in the front row, she started eating the cake one by one, and then the gold nuggets.

Without even turning around, she just threw the cake backwards, opened her mouth wide and caught the gold nuggets steadily, not missing a single one.

The man and the dog work together seamlessly.

Luke ignored the two guys.

With the company of US dollars and gold nuggets, Selena became much more lively.

Compared to the last time she went to Mexico, she seemed to have let go of some of her worries now.

He was still very pleased about this.

Otherwise, why would he let Jin Nugget off so easily? He should at least deduct a few days' worth of snacks from him and feed him dog food for a few days as punishment.

Now the merits and demerits offset each other, and we are even.

Soon, the two arrived at an underground garage passage at the back door of a bank.

After showing their ID, they drove in and parked the car, then the two men and the dog walked to a small gate.

Luke glanced around slowly and asked curiously, "The robber's death was not captured by the camera?"

Selina answered while eating, "There was a video of the robbery in the lobby, but the camera here was deflected or broken before it could capture him."

Luke: "And the bank has already replaced the cameras, right?"

Selina nodded: "Yes, it's been two days since the incident. Of course, it's impossible for the camera to be broken all the time."

Luke looked at the locations of the cameras. "That guy ran away alone, so how did he break the camera? Did he shoot?"

Selina: "That guy had a gun, but it wasn't the gun that broke the camera."

Luke and his companion were investigating a bank robbery, which was also a homicide case.

But the dead people were not the bank security guards, nor the bank customers, but the robbers themselves.

After the unlucky guy successfully completed the robbery, he was unable to leave the place and was hanged on the door at the entrance of the passage.

He took out a photo from the file and compared it with the door. He sighed, "Anyway, I don't believe that this robber had a change of heart after he succeeded and hanged himself here."

Selina nodded: "I don't believe it either."

After seeing the scene, Luke left without further delay.

Sitting in a private room in the tea restaurant, he flipped through the files, looking at the case statements and various on-site photos, and had some ideas in his mind.

Selena was eating cream cake and reading files nearby, occasionally putting a piece of cake on the dollar plate.

Not long after, Elsa pushed the door open.

Looking at the two people's diligence, she nodded with satisfaction.

Although these two like to eat and drink, they are not careless in doing things.

Luke raised his head and greeted with a smile: "Can we order now, Boss?"

Elsa nodded in agreement.

The three of them quickly ordered a lot of food and started eating.

After finishing the meal and drinking tea, Elsa finally spoke: "Tell me, what do you want to know."

Luke shrugged, "It's just Roger and Martin's work situation."

Elsa stared at him for a moment, then suddenly laughed: "How are they doing? Don't you have any idea? I've let you out for two weeks. If there's no result, it would be a waste of police resources."

Luke: “So it’s okay?”

Elsa nodded. "I guess so. They received a public warning and will not be promoted for two years. But Roger has no plans to be promoted recently, and Martin doesn't care about being promoted either, so let's just forget about it."

Luke was still very satisfied with Palmer. She also made a lot of efforts to allow the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) to completely take over the big pot in Tijuana, Mexico.

Elsa still added: "However, Martin may have to take a long vacation, and Roger will take a short vacation."

Luke was stunned: "Why?"

Elsa: "I don't know. I just asked Martin once, and he said he needed to adjust his mindset. After making sure everything is fine, we can talk about work. Roger... I heard that his old heart problem is showing signs of recurring."

Luke chuckled, "Are you sure it wasn't caused by Martin?"

Elsa nodded helplessly: "I think so too. After all, he is old. What he did this time was really a bit... exaggerated. It would be better to let him take it slow."

Seeing Luke's grinning expression, she couldn't help but say, "Don't be so happy. They are still very capable in handling cases. Now that they are on vacation, many of their cases will overwhelm our team. You will have to work overtime."

She felt a little helpless when she said this.

Luke and his team only took on difficult cases. If they were handed over to other detectives, they would be thankful if they could solve 10% of the cases. For the two of them to have a 30% rate is really quite impressive.

She felt it was too much to add more pressure on them now.

Luke had been on a business trip for two weeks, and she knew he would be on vacation afterwards, but she didn't call him to come back, as if to compensate him.

But the Stark Industries trade show was about to open, and she couldn't continue to let her most capable general slack off.

Luke smiled and nodded: "No problem, Boss. Anyway, I can handle any case that can be handled in no time."
