Being A Detective in The World of Film and Television

Chapter 57: The case flew away, and the dead man walked on the roadside

At this moment, his cell phone suddenly rang. After picking it up and saying a few words, Lu Ke hung up. Suddenly, he fell silent.

Selina drove the car and glanced at him: "What's wrong again?"

Lu Ke had a subtle expression: "Director Thomas just called me and said that our case has been transferred and we don't need to investigate anymore."

Selina: "Who did you hand it over to?"

Lu Ke: "... I heard it was the FBI."

The two returned to the police station and just saw four people coming out of the police station, one in front and three behind. All four of them were wearing black suits and black sunglasses, with indifferent expressions, looking like they were in a nightclub.

The four of them passed by Lu Ke and the other man.

The two entered the lobby of the Major Crimes Unit and went to Berrick's office.

Seeing the two men coming back, Borick asked casually, "Did you find out anything?"

Lu Ke looked strange: "Team Leader, this case has been transferred by Director Thomas. We are reporting to you."

Borick was stunned: "Transfer? Why didn't I know? Did the deputy director inform you directly?" His face looked a little unhappy.

It was against the rules for the deputy director to interfere in the cases under his charge.

If the higher-ups are involved in everything, what's the point of having the department heads below? They're just puppets!

Lu Ke pondered for a moment and said, "In fact, when we first arrived at the forensic center to investigate the missing victim's body, we received a call from the deputy director, asking us to stop interfering."

Borrick nodded slightly. He felt a little better. At least these two were not insiders.

He casually found a file on the table and said, "Then you go and follow up on this case." After saying that, he waved his hand to signal the two of them that they could leave.

Lu Ke and the other person agreed and left the office.

Selina said in a low voice: "It seems that Borrick is very unhappy."

Lu Ke hummed: "But it shouldn't be directed at us. Don't think about that, let's take a look at our new case."

The two returned to their desks, opened the files and took a look. Selina was immediately shocked: "What does Berrick mean by this? He asked us to follow up on this case, and you still say he didn't target us?"

Lu Ke was not excited. He looked at the information in the file and whispered, "Not necessarily. At least this is Houston. Even if these people are involved in arms smuggling, they are not to the point of fighting with the police. And, did you notice that the arms here eventually went to Mexico?"

Selina thought about it, but still felt dissatisfied: "Although we have fought with Mexican gunmen before, it doesn't mean we are familiar with that place. How could such a case be thrown to us? This is only our first day at work, where did we get the information?"

Lu Ke nodded: "Now we don't have Robert to back us up, so we have to figure it out on our own. If we don't have intelligence, we can find it ourselves. It takes more than a day or two to train an informant."

Selina suddenly thought of something, stuck out her tongue and kept silent.

In fact, the main reason why the two had no source of intelligence was because Lu Ke had previously asked them to continue working together.

Otherwise, the two of them could each follow an old detective, use each other's resources first, and then slowly cultivate their own informants and intelligence.

Lu Ke had anticipated this.

Of course he would rather be with Selena because he believes that Selena will support him unconditionally.

In that case, after solving the case, the credit between the two people in the police station will be shared equally, but he can get more experience and points from the system.

If he were to partner with an old detective, he would have to listen to the old detective and he would definitely gain much less experience after solving the case.

The two didn't delay too long and drove out again.

That's what detectives in the Major Crimes Unit do.

If you want a promotion and a raise, work hard and there will never be enough work to do.

The two of them went out and went to a fast food restaurant to eat.

However, this is Mexican fast food.

The must-have dish is the Mexican cornmeal... well, it's actually a pancake made of cornmeal, with a special filling and a spicy sauce.

It was a delicious meal for both of them.

Selena's parents are authentic Mexicans, and most of the food they cook at home is Mexican style.

Lu Ke was a Chinese from Bashu in his previous life. He had a natural talent for spicy food and he loved it forever.

Selina ate two special tacos and Lu Ke ate four. It took them almost forty minutes to finish them.

After getting in the car, Selina asked, "How is it, did you find anything?"

Lu Ke: "Well, the tortillas here are pretty good, but a little worse than Sandra's."

Selina rolled her eyes at him and said, "Okay, my mother isn't here, so stop trying to please me." Despite saying that, she was still happy in her heart.

Lu Ke chuckled and stopped talking about this: "On the surface, there is nothing wrong. Of course, we are just here to have a meal. If it is so easy to find the problem, others would have solved the case long ago. Let's go and take a look around here."

The case the two men were involved in was an arms smuggling case, and the suspects were a Mexican gang.

This is also the reason why Selina felt that Borick was playing a trick on the two of them.

This kind of gang, with at least dozens and at most hundreds of people, is simply not something that two young detectives with no experience and no connections can handle.

But Lu Ke didn't think so.

Perhaps Borick had some intention of trying to intimidate them, but he certainly didn't intend for the two to solve the case immediately.

If the secret was revealed, what would those detectives under Borick be? Useless

It has been more than two months since the news of this case was received. The detectives previously in charge have been transferred to handle other more urgent cases. Obviously, everyone feels that it is difficult to make any progress in this case.

Selina was driving the car, and Lu Ke was sitting in the passenger seat observing the surrounding situation.

Suddenly, his face froze, and a somewhat familiar strange face seemed to pass by his sight.

He said it was familiar because he seemed to have seen this face before.

When he said stranger, he couldn't remember who this person was at all, so he must be a stranger.

After driving a few dozen meters, Lu Ke suddenly said, "Turn around and go back."

The good thing about the tacit cooperation was that Selina didn't hesitate at all and turned around and just asked, "What did you find?"

At this moment, Lu Ke finally remembered the owner of that face, and his face suddenly became strange: "... Just now, I seemed to see a dead person walking on the side of the road."

Selina did not doubt that it was a lie, but was surprised: "Who?"

Lu Ke took a deep breath and said, "Do you remember our case this morning? The victim, the witch... she just walked by the side of the road."

Selina's hands trembled and she almost drove the car to the side of the road: "wtf?!"

This is a bit scary.

How could a dead person be walking on the roadside? Was this a ghost

But she immediately steadied the car, slightly increased the speed and drove forward, searching the roadside with her eyes.
