Being A Detective in The World of Film and Television

Chapter 877: Money is always a big problem (Part 2)

Of course, a veteran like Walter won't give up easily.

He has a hundred ways to get Luke and the other two out of the way during the investigation, so that the final credit will have nothing to do with Luke and the other two.

Therefore, when faced with Dustin's attempt to add sand in the sand, he did not panic, but still acted at his own pace.

While the old lady was talking excitedly with Walter and the others, a man walked out quickly from the office not far away.

Turning his head and seeing Luke, the man was stunned: "Luke? What are you doing..."

Luke walked over with a smile and whispered, "Good morning, Fudge. I'm at work."

Fudge looked at Walter and the other man, and instantly saw the police badges on their chests. He looked at Luke again: "You too..."

Luke smiled and lifted up the thin metal chain in his jacket, revealing the police badge wallet: "We can get reacquainted. Luke Coulson, the rookie detective who just reported to NYPD yesterday."

Fudge opened his mouth. "You? Detective?"

Fudge is a lawyer and a native New Yorker, so he certainly knows a lot about NYPD.

In his opinion, although Luke spoke and acted maturely, that was more like the result of family education, and his actual age was less than 20 years old.

In the New York Police Department, anyone under the age of 20 is at best a new police officer, let alone a department like the Detective Bureau at the headquarters where the veterans are.

Luke smiled and said, "Most of your classmates are still interns in law firms. Didn't you open a law firm and become your own boss?"

Fudge smiled bitterly, "Okay, no more jokes. Luke, what do you want from Elena?"

Luke explained the situation in just a few words.

Fudge frowned: "You are just here to look for clues, but you may not be able to help Elena solve her current difficulties?"

Luke sighed, signaled Walter over there with his eyes, and lowered his voice even lower: "I was just assigned to follow this case when I was at work today. Inspector Walter is the one responsible for solving the case, so you know."

Fudge thought about the detective on Luke's badge and then about Walter's title of inspector, and he was at a loss for words.

Just like an intern in a law firm cannot possibly instruct the senior partners in the firm on how to do things.

A junior detective certainly has no right to instruct the inspector on how to handle a case, not to mention that Luke is new.

Luke looked at his expression and continued in a low voice: "But if we find any clues, it's better than letting what happened in Elena's house end as a "decoration dispute", right?"

Fudge's heart moved: "Is that so..."

Luke smiled and patted his shoulder gently: "You can go over and test Inspector Walter's attitude. I haven't even talked to him for five minutes since I came to NYPD."

Fudge didn't know whether to laugh or cry: You, the new guy, are so outstanding!

But Luke's attitude made him feel better.

This young man, whom he found very pleasing to the eye, did not have the hypocritical dogma that he hated, and was a man with his own principles.

People with principles are always more likable than fence-sitters with no bottom line.

Luke was not betraying Walter, because Elena's matter actually had nothing to do with Walter. He was investigating the explosion case, not the small case of Elena's house being destroyed.

Old lady Elena called the police, and it was the 15th Precinct that concluded it was a "renovation dispute."

The old lady really had to thank Walter for his meddling, because at least she could hope to overturn the conclusion of the 15th Precinct.

Fudge is not stupid, and anyone who can be a lawyer cannot be stupid, otherwise he will be eliminated soon.

After just a few steps, he sorted out the key points of the information revealed by Luke, walked over with a smile on his face, and began to help old lady Elena with indirect questions.

In fact, on the night of the explosion, Fudge came to Elena's house because of the "decoration dispute", and the explosion happened while they were talking in the house.

Fudge, who was clear-headed and spoke clearly, was a more qualified party involved than the old lady, and he was the only one who noticed some of the details.

Walter was afraid of trouble at first and didn't want to talk to the young lawyer, but after talking to Fudge for a few words, he was attracted by the information he revealed and couldn't help asking more questions, leaving the old lady aside.

Luke didn't step forward either, but just gestured to Selina, asking her to call him if she needed anything.

He took a few steps and re-entered the law firm of Nelson & Murdoch.

Now, taking a closer look at this so-called law firm, he shook his head in his heart: The entrepreneurial journey of these two young lawyers seemed to have encountered the most common and biggest problem - money - at the very beginning.

Money is always a big problem for most people in the world.

Two young lawyers set up their own business, but during the entrepreneurial stage when they needed to make money the most, they took on a lot of cases from poor people.

The only way to make a lot of money from the poor is through personal injury lawsuits. You can see a string of 888 phone numbers everywhere on the New York subway and billboards, as well as two smiling lawyers who specialize in this business.

However, these two young lawyers did not take this kind of job that could make a lot of money.

Their current cases are nothing more than obtaining new work visas for certain foreign workers, or helping poor people who cannot pay fines but do not want to go to jail to reduce their penalties, and helping old lady Elena negotiate with the landlord to renovate the house back to its original state.

These people could not afford the lawyer fees which were calculated at one hundred dollars an hour, so all they could pay the two young lawyers was some cheap food and fruit.

These things were piled in a corner of the room, but there wasn't much of them, enough for the three people in the law firm to eat for two days at most.

Well, with a lawyer's appetite, he might only eat two meals at most. After all, people who like to do physical work will always consume more energy.

The big blonde Karen noticed him.

Luke's looks and temperament here, just like hers, are hard to ignore.

She asked, "Is there anything I can help you with?"

Luke smiled and said, "I'm Fudge's friend, but I've never been to his place. Do you mind a visit?"

Karen smiled awkwardly: "Sure. But... there are only three rooms here."

Luke took a look and shrugged: "Starting a business is never easy. Don't worry about me, I'll just take a look."

As he spoke, he walked to the door of the room that should be the two lawyers' office and looked inside casually.

There were two desks piled with documents and a large filing cabinet, and then there was a very antique computer connected to an equally ancient printer.

Looking at the various old scratches on the printer, Luke felt that the printer might be as old as Claire.

On a table, a pile of scattered envelopes and papers looks very familiar to most Americans.

They are collection notices from various companies.
