Chapter 930: Returning gifts, treating guests, and giving suggestions (1 more)

Fudge thought about it and explained, "This is considered legal aid, it's free."

Luke said, "Well, it looks like your treat will have to wait a little longer."

The two paused again, and Fudge said quickly, "Tonight, tonight, after get off work we'll invite you and Selina to the bar."

Luke smiled and nodded: "Okay, we won't disturb you from doing your work, bye!"

Karen happened to be standing at the door with two boxes of things in her hands. She said, "Luke, the cake you gave us last time was very good. You happened to be here today, so you can take this back."

As she spoke, she handed the thing in her hand to him.

Luke looked and saw that they were two boxes of donuts.

Judging from the obviously ordinary packaging and the brand name that they had never heard of, it should be another "thank you gift" given to Fudge and his friend by the neighbors.

He didn't know whether to laugh or cry, but he couldn't refuse.

It was just a joke I made, so I had to accept it with gritted teeth.

While saying thank you, he said to Fudge and Matt, "I'll contact you after get off work tonight. And by the way, I wish you a prosperous business."

Then he took the two boxes of donuts and left quickly, otherwise Karen might think that the "return gift" was not enough and would give him two more boxes, which would be troublesome.

Leaving Fudge and Matt grinning bitterly once again.

Their "business" here must be booming these days, but there is no money to be made from this "business".

Why does a certain detective always like to say such heart-wrenching words!

Luke and Selina squeezed out of the office and got into the car outside the building. Selina wiped her forehead and said, "There are too many people here. I'm sweating."

Luke handed her two boxes of donuts and said, "Try some."

"What brand is this? I've never seen it before." Selina said as she casually opened the box, picked up one and took a bite: "Emumu! The taste is average and too sweet."

Luke: "Give it to Gold Nugget. Doesn't it like sweet food the most?"

Selina thought so too and threw both boxes of donuts into the back seat: "Gold Nugget, these are all yours."

Nugget: “Ouch?”

Selina: "Don't complain, it's sweet."

Jin Nugget hesitated for a moment, but still took the bite.

It is now becoming increasingly picky about food, but mainly targets salty and raw seafood.

As a severe sweet tooth, it cannot resist things like donuts.

After successfully passing the blame for the two boxes of extremely sweet donuts to the bottomless pit of gold, Selina asked, "It's not like Fudge and the others are helping people with the lawsuit, but more like they are doing volunteer work. If they don't make money, how will they pay the rent, utilities, and property management? You seemed to have said yesterday that their bills were already full?"

Luke drove the car in through the back door and parked it in the garage on the first floor: "Just ask them tonight and you'll know."

Selina: "You seem to admire them both?"

Luke chuckled: "Among the lawyers we have met, the character of these two should be ranked in the top three, and the thing that American lawyers lack the most is character."

Selena was speechless.

To put it in a common saying: If all American lawyers are shot, there will be some innocent people who are innocent; but if half of them are shot, there will be too many who slip through the net.

Lawyers with good character are rare, just like capitalists who don't want to make money.

At 7:30 in the evening, Luke received a call from Fudge, inviting him and Selina to go to Jesse's bar on the corner for a drink.

Luke and Selina went out quickly and entered the nearest bar within two minutes.

The bar business is average, with neither too many nor too few people, and the business in the Clinton district cannot be too good.

The three big guys from the firm were standing in front of the bar, and Luke and the other guy walked over and sat next to them.

Fudge and the other two all looked a little tired, but they were in good spirits and were chatting and laughing happily.

Seeing Luke and the other man, the three of them greeted them with a smile.

Fudge waved his hand generously: "Order whatever you want, it's my treat tonight."

Luke took a slight breath through his nose and smelled the imitation smell of the glass of whiskey in front of Fudge.

Looking at the gray-black "olive" thrown next to the wine glass, Luke felt that it was either a moldy olive or not an olive at all.

He quickly said, "Corona beer, two bottles."

The lady boss in a red and black plaid shirt turned her head and looked at him: "Are you an adult? I think I need to see your driver's license first. Don't show me your student ID."

Luke smiled and looked at Fudge.

Fudge: "Jesse, he's my friend, how could he be underage? Just serve the wine."

Jesse pouted. "You don't really look like an adult either. Except for your face, of course."

Fudge: "..."

After giving Fudge a critical hit, the proprietress Jesse opened two bottles of Corona and placed them in front of Luke and the others.

She also had a liking for Luke's young face, which is why she said this.

Otherwise, in Clinton, no one cares about underage weed use, so no one would care whether Luke drinks or not.

The five of them started chatting and talked about the "unprecedented occasion" at the office today.

Luke listened and suddenly said, "According to what you said, most of them mainly want to repair the house, right?"

Fudge took a sip of his whiskey. "That's right."

Luke rubbed his chin and said, "Do you think it would be better to help them find a cheap house repair company?"

Fudge shook his head when he heard this. "Impossible. There is no cheap repair company in New York. Just repairing a door will cost at least one or two hundred dollars. This price is not cheap."

Luke: "Well, how about forming one ourselves and finding a few locals?"

Fudge and Matt were puzzled: "Local?"

What does this have to do with the locals? The locals have to work and make money, so it is impossible for them to do charity.

Luke: "In fact, maintenance companies need profits to maintain their operations and employ workers. The price cannot be too low. We can cut expenses in these two aspects."

Fudge: "Tell me about it."

Luke: "If we find some local people to help, and hire a few skilled workers from outside, then there will be no maintenance company making money, and the maintenance cost can be much lower if we just hire workers."

Fudge shook his head when he heard this: "Impossible. Even if we hire someone here, it won't be much cheaper."

Luke chuckled and said, "I know two candidates. We can ask them to help. They are also familiar with transporting and loading and unloading construction materials."

Fudge didn't understand for a moment, but Matt's expression changed: "You mean, Charlie and Laka?"

Luke nodded. "That's them. We can talk to Temple and Laka's mother directly about this matter and let them come to work as community volunteers. It just so happens that this is also a charity fund."

Matt and Fudge both frowned in thought.

Luke suggested this because Charlie and Laka are minors and hiring them could get into trouble.

Once this starts, it will be a formal and large-scale project.

Fudge and his law firm also have to step in, so they have to consider these legal issues even more carefully.
