Chapter 169: The calm before the storm

In the weeks that followed, Lynn began an exhausting life of multitasking.

First, he had to hold a mandrake in his mouth every day in preparation for the Animagus ritual; second, he had to wait for the surprise that George Weiss had mentioned; third, he had to guard against Loki's arrival; and finally, he had to deal with his daily homework.

Under this four-fold attack, Lin En felt that there was something wrong with his sleep. He began to have dark circles under his eyes and was not very energetic during the day.

So much so that Hughes could see that something was wrong with him.

"Hey buddy, you've been pretending to be dumb for almost half a month!"

In the school cafeteria, Hughes, who had just finished lunch, shook Lynn's shoulder, signaling him to quickly wake up from his mute state.

"My tooth hurts." Lin En pointed to the strange leaf in his mouth, indicating that he didn't want to talk, but he had to.

"Damn, how long has this thing been in your mouth? I suspect it has rotted." Hughes quickly avoided it when he saw this.

"Besides, can a toothache last that long?"

"It's a mouth ulcer. Anyway, I have to hold this thing in my mouth for a month before it heals." Lynn shrugged.

"You look like you're performing some kind of evil sacrificial ritual. Hey, Lynn, when did you become interested in the occult? Is this the magical leaf from your ancient East? I don't think I've ever seen such a strange-looking leaf. It looks like a radish, but I've never seen radish leaves before. Hey, if you take it and it has any effect, be sure to tell me." Hughes began to fantasize as he spoke.

"Indeed, this is indeed an ancient and mysterious ritual. As long as I hold it in my mouth for a full month, I can summon the devil and gain the ability to transform into an animal." Lin En told the truth.

"Oh, remember to call me when you summon the devil. It will definitely attract Doctor Strange to capture you, and then I can take a photo with him." Hughes said lazily.

The same question was asked to Spider-Man.

He came to Lynn's house several times and found that Lynn had become less talkative and seemed to be doing something very strange.

"Animagus? I think I heard you say that. Hey, can I try this ritual?"

When Lynn explained the situation to Spider-Man, the other party showed great interest.

"Animagus needs magic to maintain its mind. I'm afraid that after you turn into a spider, you will never be able to change back. Then New York will have one less superhero and one more disgusting super villain." Lynn said slowly.

"It sounds a bit risky, but why did you suddenly think of this? I remember you performed Transfiguration before. Is there any difference between that and this?"

Spider-Man thought about what Lynn had described and felt a chill run down his spine.

"This is more stable than ordinary transfiguration. It allows me to turn into a real animal, but with the original human thinking. This will be very useful in some emergency situations." Lynn explained.

"Emergency? The security in New York has been quite good recently, and all the Hydra in New York has been eliminated. It seems that there are very few situations that make you feel urgent." Spider-Man asked casually.

"I don't know how to tell you this, but something big is going to happen in New York soon. Its development may be beyond your imagination. You'd better be prepared." Lynn hadn't decided whether to tell Spider-Man the truth.

He was worried that leaking the progress of the matter too early would cause unnecessary changes to the timeline.

"Hey, how did you do that? Predictions? I thought only Strange had that ability."

Spider-Man opened his eyes wide and looked at Lynn.

“Perhaps, I do have some skills in prophecy and divination.” Lynn spread his hands.

"Oh then you must tell fortunes for me!"

Spider-Man was very excited.

He has been busy applying to MIT recently. The admissions office is very satisfied with his results, and he is eager to know the results.

On the other hand, his relationship with MJ was gradually deepening, so he wanted to know his own fortune.

Logically, someone like Spider-Man wouldn't be interested in divination and prophecy, but as a poor little bug who fell in love, he seemed to lose his confidence and become humble.

"OK, drink this cup of tea, but don't drink it all, leave the tea leaves." Lin En could see what his good brother was thinking.

"Oh, this sounds like the scammer on the corner of the subway..." Spider-Man was skeptical, but did it anyway.

"The enlightenment of spiritual light exists in the details of life. Only those who have wisdom can capture them. Now, let us clear away the clouds and see the future fortune from your tea appearance!"

Lynn muttered to herself.

"Hey, now you look more like one!"

"Don't question wisdom!" Lynn signaled Spider-Man to be more respectful.

"Now, turn the tea bowl upside down and look at the shape the tea leaves make."

"OK." Spider-Man did as he was told, then laid down on the table and studied it carefully.

After a while, he seemed very excited.

"Oh my god, it looks like a heart!"

Spider-Man hurriedly reported the result to Lynn.

"Heart shape, oh, what a clichéd result." Lin En sneered. He was too lazy to even take out the tea table to compare. "Congratulations, you got the beauty."

"Is it that simple?" Spider-Man was very skeptical, because he felt that if it was just this level, he could do it by himself.

"If you want a tragic ending, you can try again." Lynn poured another cup of tea.

"I think I'd better forget it. The first time is the most accurate. I will remember the result this time." The little spider was in high spirits.

"Oh, by the way, how's your recent surveillance... Oh no, your cooperation with Mr. Stark going?" Lynn didn't want to see Spider-Man's happy expression anymore, so he simply changed the subject.

"Oh, he never let me take any action. Every time he stopped me when I just appeared, and then he solved all the problems for me. He also told me not to talk too much and focus on being a superhero. If I had known this, I should have asked Director Fury to join Captain Rogers."

The little spider looked helpless.

"Apart from that? Is there anything else?" Lin En asked again.

"What else could it be? His daily actions are very fixed. Why, it seems that you and Director Fury are very concerned about this. Could it be that Mr. Stark is getting into some trouble?" Spider-Man was curious.

"Perhaps."

Lynn neither refuted nor admitted it.

He vaguely felt that the current normality was just the calm before the storm. Once the storm came, it would sweep in all directions and detonate all kinds of unstable factors, which would inevitably be extremely violent.
