Chapter 32: A tough potion

"Bite off the neck?" Lynn sensed something.

Is it such a coincidence

Lynn didn't leave in a hurry. Instead, he eavesdropped quietly for a while and then walked around the block again.

From the outside, it seemed that the people here were living and working in peace and contentment. Many housewives sat on the street making tacos or tortillas for dinner, chatting with each other about family matters. Only when they saw an outsider like Lynn, they showed curiosity and vigilance.

It was hard to imagine that the mutant Jack had sneaked into this neighborhood, and Lynn began to wonder whether his guess was reliable.

He suddenly remembered what the boss who sold live worms said. In the past two days, the local gang Scorpion Tail Gang has been collecting "that stuff" on a large scale. For the people here, "that stuff" obviously refers to some illegal drugs with analgesic effects.

When you think about it this way, it makes sense.

Maybe the mutant Jack has been hunted down these days and is seriously injured. He needs a large amount of some kind of painkillers. As a member of a gang, he naturally knows where to get "that stuff" faster - who else could it be except these Mexicans

Of course, these are just guesses. After taking a look around, Lin En found that apart from himself, a outsider, there were no other suspicious objects here, so he chose to go home first.

After experiencing so many events, he has clearly understood what kind of city New York is and will never run around carelessly like he did when he first arrived.

In a dangerous place like this, he has to be prepared.

Green and Gold Lane.

A thick smoke rose from the red and white painted house at the end of the alley and quickly spread to the entire alley. The smoke was mixed with a strange smell that smelled like the excrement of some animal.

"Oh God, Lynn, what are you doing?!"

Neighbor Aunt Susan was the first to run over with a bucket, but she saw that Lynn was not burned to death, but was just lying on the attic window, gasping for air.

"Hey, sorry Susan! I shouldn't have put unopened cheese in the microwave!" Lynn pinched his nose and breathed deeply. He felt like a rotten egg.

"If this continues, I'm going to call the fire department!" Susan yelled, turned her head and looked a few times, then poured the water in the bucket into the flower bed in front of the house, and then returned home with the bucket in a rage.

Afterwards, the neighbors lined up to denounce Lin En.

"Damn kid, you remind me of the stink bombs used during the Vietnam War!" an old man shouted tremblingly downstairs.

"This is horrible, what are you doing?"

"Oh my god..."

Lin En took great pains to apologize to every neighbor with a forced smile. After a long while, he let out a sigh and sat back on the attic floor.

"What went wrong?"

Lin En looked at the dark yellow-green liquid splashing all over the ground, puzzled.

He followed the steps in the "Advanced Potion-Making" textbook and referred to the improved method given by Snape to experiment with the first step of the Polyjuice Potion. As a result, when he pointed his wand at the liquid in the crucible and stirred it, it suddenly exploded.

And then the scene just now happened.

"Add three parts of liquid grass to the crucible, add two bundles of two-ear grass, stir three times clockwise, wave the wand, let the potion simmer for an hour, add four parts of leeches to the crucible, add two spoonfuls of lacewings to the mortar, grind it into a fine powder, and add two parts of the powder to the crucible, heat on low for twenty seconds, and wave the wand to complete this stage."

Lynn read the textbook again, trying to remember where he had gone wrong.

A few minutes later, he slapped his head.

He missed a line of small handwritten text where Snape had added a note:

"Depending on the quality of the crucible, the time it takes to heat the potion will also vary. The old crucible in the classroom cannot be boiled for too long."

So that's how it is... Lin En nodded as if he had understood something. This crucible he got from the Room of Requirement was even older than the crucible in the Potions classroom and its quality was very poor, so he couldn't brew it for too long.

After finding the reason, Lin En mustered up the courage to try again, but when he saw the yellow-green liquid all over the floor and the thick smoke that had not yet dissipated, he considered it over and over again, and finally made up his mind to close the window.

Even if there are tens of thousands of people, I will still go!

However, forty minutes later, the smoke rose again...

"Whirlwind sweeps away!"

Lin En paid the price of almost suffocating to death before he found a cleansing spell in the "Spells" textbook and barely saved his life.

“It seems that the cooking time is still too long. Let’s try half an hour this time…” Lin En was very glad that he bought a few more ingredients so that he had enough time to tinker with it.

And half an hour later.

A pool of golden liquid finally appeared in the old crucible. It was clear and transparent, and kept spinning. From time to time, it lit up with starlight and exuded a mysterious atmosphere, as if a galaxy was trapped.

Seeing this result, Lin En felt an inexplicable sense of accomplishment.

"If this were in Hogwarts, I'm afraid this pot of potion would give Gryffindor 10 extra points." He was a little narcissistic.

But then he saw the mess on the ground. The floor had been corroded by the previously failed potion and many bubbles had appeared, so he tactfully stopped his expression.

"Back to normal!"

With a rustling sound, the surface of the floor began to rebuild its structure and soon became smooth again.

“OK, let’s just leave it here and simmer for twenty days…” Lin En was very satisfied.

Next, he'll look for Spider-Man to complete other projects.

"Hey, are you serious?"

The little spider on the lamppost seemed very excited. Just now, Lynn told him that the mutant Jack might be hiding in the Mexican community.

“What else? I spent 50 dollars to find out.” Lynn looked up at the other person and rubbed his fingers together.

This gesture is universal and also represents Mane in the United States.

"Oh, fine. I'll pay you." Spider-Man spread his hands helplessly, turned around and asked, "So when do we act? Do you have a plan? It will be tricky if he controls the entire gang. There will definitely be no shortage of weapons, and there are only two of us."

"How about waiting until the charity party is over on Friday? I don't want to work overtime on the weekend."

"Oh, that sounds a bit casual, but I like this style." Spider-Man shrugged.

"It's not random. I actually have a rough plan. Do you want to hear it?"

"Of course." Spider-Man agreed.

"OK, watch this." Lynn did not rush to talk about the plan, but took out the magic wand and pointed it at himself.

"Disillusionment spell."

A beam of silver light poured out from the tip of the staff, and flowed like mercury the moment it touched Lin En's body. Wherever it flowed, it seemed to disappear, and only empty air could be seen. Soon, Lin En disappeared from the spot.

"Do you know the plan now?" The invisible Lin En walked around behind Spider-Man and suddenly spoke.

"Hey! You almost triggered my spider sense!" Spider-Man was stunned by the scene.
