Can You Hear Me

Chapter 66: subtle

Views:

Where did Lin Weixia get the snow from? When she was about to close the coffee tree house, she accidentally saw that the shop was selling gloves. She suddenly had an idea and bought a pair of white leather gloves and asked the owner for some sealed ice cubes.

On the way down the mountain, Lin Weixia filled a handful of snow and went down the mountain with it in her arms. In fact, she didn't know whether she could meet Ban Sheng.

She simply wanted to try harder, do more, and avoid any regrets between the two of them.

They were both drenched in snow water, their cheeks and clothes were a little wet, and a subtle atmosphere flowed between them.

The sky was getting darker and darker, and the wind was blowing hard. Ban Sheng lowered his neck and looked at Lin Weixia, saying, "Let's go back."

Ban Sheng raised his hand to open the car door, then leaned sideways and got in. His bony hands rested on the steering wheel. His deep eyes saw through the rearview mirror that Lin Weixia had gone around to the other side and was trying to open the back door.

His eyelashes twitched.

Lin Weixia's hand just touched it when the car door was locked with a beep. She walked to the front and knocked on the window.

The car window was half-lowered, and Lin Weixia said, "The rear door is locked."

"Sit in the front." Ban Sheng said slowly.

"Oh, okay."

She opened the door and got in. The car started slowly and turned around to drive back. Ban Sheng drove with one hand and with the other hand he grabbed a box of tissues on the center console and handed it to her.

Lin Weixia took it and said, "Thank you."

Lin Weixia took a few tissues and slowly wiped the snow off her hair and cheeks. The night scene outside the window was like a movie, playing backwards frame by frame.

After wiping it, Lin Weixia raised her eyelashes and looked at Ban Sheng who was driving. The curve of his profile was sharp, and his prominent Adam's apple was sliding up and down. There was also moisture on his shoulders and brow bones.

"Do you want to wipe it?" Lin Weixia asked him.

Ban Sheng raised his eyebrows quickly and said nothing, but still took the paper she handed over and wiped it casually.

The car was moving at a relatively steady speed, but no one spoke. There was only the sound of wind whistling in through the gaps, and soon it began to rain, hitting the car windows densely.

The car was quiet, with a vague atmosphere of ambiguity in the air. Lin Weixia wanted to play some music to ease the awkwardness, so she leaned over to press the switch, but Ban Sheng also raised his hand to press the black button.

The two hands touched each other. His fingertips were so cold that Lin Weixia's fingers trembled, but she didn't pull them back. It was like an electric shock. The two people's hands were placed together and could not be separated.

A trace of heat was burned, and the fragrance floated in the air. Lin Weixia felt her mouth dry, and the tissue in her right hand, which she had not yet thrown away, was unconsciously crumpled into a ball.

Ban Sheng brushed past her finger calmly, pressed the switch first, and asked her:

"What song do you want to hear?"

"It will be all right."

Then a soothing music sounded, and Lin Weixia leaned back in the car seat without saying anything. She looked around the furnishings in the car, which was clean and empty.

There wasn't even a red knot in front of the car to symbolize a safe journey.

The car turned and encountered a winding road around the mountain, which required high concentration. Ban Sheng felt his throat itchy and the urge to smoke came up. He said:

"Help me find some cigarettes."

"Okay." Lin Weixia responded.

Lin Weixia looked up at the center console and found nothing. She leaned over to search in the storage compartment and touched a box of Marlboro and a lighter.

Lin Weixia was about to take it out when she suddenly remembered something. She paused, holding the full box of Marlboro and lying with her eyes open. She blinked:

"The cigarette box is empty. The cigarettes are gone."

The back of Ban Sheng's hand resting on the steering wheel showed distinct muscles and bones. He turned suddenly and drove onto a wide and flat road. He raised his eyelids and glanced at the storage compartment, but did not expose her:

"Then don't look for it."

After hearing this, Lin Weixia closed the lid of the storage compartment with a "click".

The car was driving smoothly all the way, but it broke down halfway. Ban Sheng got out of the car, opened the hood, checked the fault, and called for a tow truck.

The winter rain never stopped, and the raindrops hit the boy. He was wearing a black coat, and his shoulders were already stained dark. Lin Weixia found an umbrella from the car, walked to Ban Sheng, and tilted the umbrella towards him.

Ban Sheng whispered a few words to the other end and hung up the phone. He lowered his head and pressed his thumb on the screen, looking up something.

The two stood on the wide road. There was no car passing by in front or behind, and only the sound of silent wind and rain could be heard.

After a while, Ban Sheng looked up and spoke to the girl: "The insurance company said that a section of the road was temporarily closed due to a traffic accident. There is a B&B about a kilometer away."

"Would you like to stay here for one night?"

"Okay." Lin Weixia agreed.

Ban Sheng naturally took the umbrella from her hand, and the two of them walked forward. White raindrops dripped onto the umbrella cloth. The two people under the umbrella were a little distance apart at first, but the further they walked, the closer their shoulders slowly came, and occasionally they would slightly move apart.

After walking for more than 20 minutes, the two finally arrived at the B&B. This B&B called "Zaiyu" is located at the foot of the mountain. The yard is full of red camellias, and a few fallen green leaves fell on the ground.

There were two orange winter melon lanterns hanging on both sides of the door. The two of them were somewhat wet by the rain. Ban Sheng closed his umbrella and placed it by the door. They entered the store one after the other.

The lobby of the B&B is spacious and bright. As soon as you enter the door, the heater hits your feet. On the left side, a group of young people are sitting around a large sofa playing cards, and they burst into laughter from time to time.

Ban Sheng took out a black wallet, pulled out his ID card, handed it to the proprietress, and said:

"Two rooms."

The other party took it, clicked the confirmation button on the web page, checked it, and said apologetically: "I'm very sorry, we only have one room left tonight."

"What room?" Ben Sheng asked.

"Standard room."

Ban Sheng pondered for a while, took out his mobile phone and swiped it. Just as he was about to switch to the next page, a hand gently pulled his sleeve. He turned his head and met a pair of quiet eyes.

"It's okay." Lin Weixia said softly.

It's raining non-stop outside, and it's not a big deal to go back and forth.

Finally, Ban Sheng requested the room and took the ID card and room card handed back by the landlady. The two walked forward one after the other. When they passed the sofa on the left side of the lobby, someone suddenly called Lin Weixia, with a hesitant voice:

"Lin Weixia—"

Lin Weixia stopped and looked back. Her amber eyes looked at the people sitting on the sofa. They were actually students from Peking University, and some of them were classmates.

"Damn, it's really you."

"Okay, classmate Lin, you never came to the department gatherings before, and now you two are—" a boy complained while joking.

Ban Sheng stood on the steps, stopped at the right time, and glanced sideways at the young man and woman sitting on the sofa. He didn't know either of them, but they should be Lin Weixia's classmates.

Ban Sheng didn't know them, but they knew him. When Ban Sheng turned around, one of the girls noticed the butterfly tattoo on his collarbone.

The butterfly crawled on him, giving him a nonchalant and bad feeling.

What surprised everyone the most was, when did two people who had nothing in common get together? !

Moreover, Lin Weixia has never liked participating in social activities and usually keeps to herself. Now that she appears in the homestay with a boy, a group of people can't help but become gossipy.

"Are you two together?" a boy spoke faster than his thoughts.

The girl next to her patted her companion's arm and said, "Don't talk nonsense. When have you ever seen Wei Xia in a relationship?"

"The car broke down, so we're staying here for one night," Lin Weixia explained.

Lin Weixia did not answer the girl's question, as Ban Sheng expected. He put one hand in his pocket and played with a lighter with the other hand, making a clicking sound, with a nonchalant look on his face.

The boy still didn't give up. After all, Lin Weixia was the goddess he had been in love with for a long time. He asked:

"And this is—"

"My high school classmate." Lin Weixia explained.

A group of people nodded and said "Oh". No wonder, they were friends. This explained why the two of them appeared in the same B&B, but it didn't mean anything.

Ban Sheng is so arrogant. I heard that he never actively pursues people, but he is very good at attracting people. Girls always throw themselves at him, but they always leave disappointed in the end.

Lin Weixia, on the other hand, is completely focused on her profession and won't take the initiative to pursue others.

The boy thought secretly in his heart that he was happy again and the goddess was still everyone's.

Ban Sheng lowered his dark eyelashes, put the lighter in his palm back into his trouser pocket, and saw that Lin Weixia had finished speaking and was about to leave.

The next second, Lin Weixia's voice rang out. In front of all the classmates, she spoke in a frank and generous tone:

“But I’m chasing him.”

As soon as the words fell, the air was silent for a second. The boys pounded their heads and cried, and the girls were stunned for a few seconds. This was the first time they saw Lin Weixia like this. After all, she was introverted and didn't like to express herself.

After digesting this information, a group of people whistled a few times and said, "Wow, come down and have dinner with us later."

After Lin Weixia said a few words to her classmates, she walked to the side of the thin figure, pulled his sleeve, and said softly:

"Let's go."

"Um."

The two walked upstairs side by side, neither of them spoke first, and they were caught in a weird atmosphere.

After swiping his card to enter the room, Ban Sheng threw his lighter and cell phone on the coffee table. With a "click", the light switch turned on, and warm light poured down.

Ban Sheng began to check whether there were any hidden pinhole cameras in hidden places such as table lamps, curtains, and socket outlets.

The old-fashioned air conditioner began to turn slowly, making a buzzing sound. Lin Weixia took off her scarf and coat, found a hanger and hung them under the air conditioner blades. She said to the boy:

"Why don't you take off your coat and dry it?"

Ban Sheng took off his coat and handed it to her, then walked straight to the other side.

Lin Weixia took it. His body temperature and a faint smell of tobacco were still on the fabric.

There were still transparent water droplets on it. Lin Weixia took his windbreaker and shook it vigorously. With a "pop", a bottle of white medicine suddenly fell out of the jacket pocket, landed on the beige floor and rolled forward.

Lin Weixia bent down to pick it up, and subconsciously felt that the medicine packaging looked familiar. When she was about to read the words on it clearly—

A hand with red and wet knuckles picked up the bottle of medicine first. He moved quickly and put it in his palm in an instant. Nothing could be seen clearly.

"What medicine?" Lin Weixia looked at him calmly.

Ban Sheng's eyebrows were weary, and he raised his hand to rub his neck. He walked to the other side and buried his whole body on the sofa. The light and shadow made his expression obscure:

"Stomach medicine. I drank too much alcohol when I was abroad."

"The water is ready. Drink some hot water and come downstairs to eat later." Ban Sheng curled up in the sofa, swiping his fingers quickly on the screen of his mobile phone.

Lin Weixia nodded: "Okay."

Lin Weixia walked over and found that a cup of hot water had been poured next to the white kettle. White mist was oozing out of the transparent glass cup, and her fingertips were reaching towards the wall of the cup.

The temperature is just right.

Some things about him haven't changed.

After Lin Weixia drank a few sips of hot water, she felt much better. After a while, she poured a cup of hot water and handed it to Ban Sheng.

It was still raining outside the window, so they sat in the room and rested for a while.

Half an hour later, Lin Weixia received a message from her classmates on WeChat urging her to leave. She glanced at Ban Sheng, who was leaning on the sofa and about to fall asleep, and whispered:

"My classmate called us downstairs to eat."

Ban Sheng suddenly opened his eyes, raised his hands and rubbed his face. His face looked even paler at night, and he stood up.

After they put on their coats, they went downstairs together, Ban Sheng walked in front and Lin Weixia followed behind.

When she closed the door, she found a tall figure blocking the way. Ban Sheng had his back to her, and Lin Weixia could only see his straight neck and a row of protruding, slightly cold spines.

"You don't have to take your classmates' questions seriously." Ban Sheng said with his back to her.

He was referring to the moment when Lin Weixia's classmates questioned her downstairs, and Lin Weixia said the words about pursuing him out of consideration for his face.

He didn't take it seriously.

Lin Weixia lowered her eyes, grabbed Ban Sheng's wrist, and placed her hand on it, burning his heart. The boy turned around, tilted his neck to look back at her, and met a pair of transparent and firm eyes. She looked at him and whispered:

"But I want to chase you."
