Can You Hear Me

Chapter 74: Blizzard

With a snap, the car door closed. The black GTR behind her whizzed past Lin Weixia. The night was dark, and a sharp wind blew. Lin Weixia unconsciously raised her hand and pulled the scarf wrapped around her, covering most of her face, leaving only a pair of eyes exposed.

She walked along the night road for about seven or eight minutes, and Qiu Minghua caught up with her in a car and finally let Lin Weixia get in his car.

Lin Weixia sat in the car. Qiu Minghua sighed at her silent appearance and began to talk. Lin Weixia leaned against the car window and saw his lips moving, but she didn't know what he was saying.

Halfway through the drive, it started to rain heavily, and the whole city was shrouded in humidity. The car windows were not closed tightly, and the raindrops hit my face, feeling cold.

Lin Weixia thought of Ban Sheng’s disgusted and impatient look just now. Every expression and body movement of his was saying: Stay away from me.

Thinking of this, my heart ached and I could hardly breathe.

After driving for more than an hour, the rain stopped, but it was still raining. Lin Weixia opened the car door, and a gust of damp air hit her body. She whispered a thank you to Qiu Minghua, and plunged into the rain without looking back.

Qiu Minghua was leaning over and struggling to get an umbrella from the back seat. Seeing Lin Weixia getting wet in the rain, he anxiously shouted, "Don't you want an umbrella?"

Lin Weixia put her hands in her coat pockets and walked forward in the rain. She stretched out one hand with difficulty and waved it backwards without looking back.

When she got home and turned on the heater, Lin Weixia was mostly soaked and her lips were pale from being frozen outside. She went into her room, packed her clothes, and went to the bathroom.

Turn on the water heater, and the shower head immediately pours out a column of hot water. The scalding hot stream pours on the skin, soothing the tense nerves.

After taking a shower, she felt much more comfortable. She poured a mouthful of hot water and swallowed it lukewarmly. Shengxia ran over panting and tried to pounce on her.

The glass windshield cup was placed on the table. Lin Weixia squatted down, hugged the puppy, put her face against its furry head, stared at a certain point in a trance, and a crystal tear fell on the back of her hand.

Before going to bed, Lin Weixia took out her cell phone from under her pillow and turned on the screen, but it was empty. Ban Sheng hadn't sent her another message.

The next day, Lin Weixia woke up. All the unpleasant emotions from the previous night were dissipated by sleep, and she felt comfortable because of the sunlight shining in through the windowsill early in the morning.

Lin Weixia made herself a sandwich and a cup of milk coffee in the morning. People are more alert during the day. She chewed the sandwich slowly while thinking about what happened last night.

She was in a very bad mood last night, but now she has regained her senses. Ban Sheng's reaction at that time was not right, as if he was allergic to something or had a stress reaction.

Lin Weixia didn't dare to make random guesses or judgments. After taking a sip of coffee, she took out her phone to find the black avatar and began to edit the information in the dialog box:

I typed "we need to talk" with my thumb and wanted to send it, but then I remembered the look in Ban Sheng's eyes last night, my heart tightened, and I re-edited the message.

Xia: [We need to talk. If you don’t think it’s necessary, forget it.]

After sending the message, Lin Weixia thought there would be at least a response, but she didn't expect it to fall on deaf ears, and the black avatar never showed up again with the little red dot.

During get out of class or when doing group work, Lin Weixia couldn't help wondering whether Ban Sheng had seen the message but didn't reply, or whether he hadn't seen it at all.

But reason told her that they lived in modern times and would need to use mobile phones to some extent.

He should have seen it and felt there was no need to talk about it.

When Lin Weixia came to this conclusion, she was taking notes. The red pen left a heavy mark on the paper, and the page of copied notes was ruined.

Lin Weixia sighed.

It is December now. After a few days of brief clear skies in northern Beijing, it is snowing heavily again. Since that night, Lin Weixia has never seen Ban Sheng again. With the snowfall, it is as if he disappeared from her world out of thin air.

Everything that happened during this period seemed like a dream.

It was as if he had always been in America and had never come back.

If Lin Weixia and Men Zi were in class at the same time, they would go to the cafeteria to eat together. The two sat face to face in the crowded restaurant. Men Zi saw that she was distracted frequently and said with concern:

"Baby, what's wrong with you?"

Lin Weixia pulled the corner of her mouth, and seeing Men Zimei's eyes were full of joy, she asked back, "What's wrong with you? What are you so happy about?"

Men Zi's attention shifted as soon as this was mentioned. She held her cheek with her hand, and her originally charming and sharp eyes were now coated with a soft light. She smiled and said:

"Your friend is hard to pursue, but he's quite interesting, honest and innocent, it's hard not to want to conquer him."

Lin Weixia understood, nodded, and said, "But he is a very good person, don't underestimate him, he might have subdued you and taken you in."

Men Zi rubbed the edge of his white jaw with his thumb, squinted his eyes and recalled the scene of yesterday, and repeated: "No way, he is really funny."

Men Zi recently took on a job to shoot a promotional video for the Beijing University Police Academy. Coincidentally, the filming location happened to be Ning Chao's school. The moment Men Zi led a third-party team into the police academy.

She smelled a strong scent of hormones. A formation of energetic college students passed by her. They were wearing dark blue training uniforms and marching in unison. They chanted slogans in unison. The sweat on their foreheads flowed down their chins, and no one reached out to wipe it off. They strictly observed the discipline.

The boy carrying the camera joked, "Sister Men, stop looking, your eyes are wide open."

Men Zi sighed and said, "From today on, this is my taste: muscular, uniformed, and handsome."

"Sister Men, don't be fooled by their handsome looks now. They are actually very rough in private. They don't like to take showers, have a lot of smelly socks, and stink of sweat."

Men Zi stretched out a finger and waved it, frowning her pretty eyebrows: "You're asking for a fight, don't break my fantasy."

The school staff quickly received them and the group came to the filming site. In fact, whether it was shooting or editing the short film, except for the two necessary assistants, all other links were completed by her alone.

They came to the training ground to shoot, and just in time for the students of Class 2 and Class 3 to be doing a big training, Men Zi immediately gave a look to the assistant behind him. The equipment was turned on, and the cameras were moving towards them to shoot.

Across the crowd, Men Zi saw Ning Chao, the third boy from the left in the last row. He was wearing a blue training uniform, tall, with a strong profile, and a distinctly unruly aura.

Men Zi held the camera and moved over. They crawled forward, clearing obstacles along the way, and she crouched down to film along the way. Ning Chao lay on the ground with his hands, maintaining a crawling posture. They could not move until the instructor shouted.

After maintaining the same posture for a long time, his muscles began to feel sore and stiff. Ning Chao tried his best to endure it, and the sweat on his forehead dripped down his cheeks. He was already feeling uncomfortable, and suddenly he felt a warm fragrance blowing on his face, like a small animal, with a seductive scent.

Ning Chao's lower abdomen tightened, and the restlessness in his body was aroused, and his face became even more itchy. He turned his eyes and saw a charming face. Men Zi was looking at him with a smile.

Ning Chao took a deep breath. He couldn't do anything, but he couldn't let this woman control him. His eyes were full of warning. The two of them went back and forth for several times. Later, Men Zi saw him gritting his teeth in anger. Fearing that he was really angry, he hurriedly stopped.

During the half-time break, Ning Chao leaned against a poplar tree with a bottle of mineral water in his hand. It was a cold day, and his coat was draped next to him. He was only wearing a short-sleeved shirt. His arm muscles were tight. When he tilted his head back to drink water, his Adam's apple rolled and water kept dripping on his collarbone. His dark eyelashes were a little sweaty, revealing a wildness.

Men Zi walked towards him with her hands behind her back and stood in front of the boy's door. Ning Chao tightened the bottle cap without blinking, ignoring her as if she were air.

"Tsk, I just took a picture of your abdominal muscles and just transferred it to my phone." Men Zi picked up the phone and opened it seriously to admire it.

Ning Chao's face darkened, and he stretched out his hand to grab her phone, but Men Zi dodged swiftly and looked at him provocatively. The boy grabbed her wrist directly, unconsciously increasing the strength in his hand, and gritted his teeth and said:

"You are a woman, do you have any shame?"

"Lust is a human's natural desire. Not only am I shameless, but I also play this video on loop whenever I miss a man in the middle of the night. Oh, it's great that your panting sound can be heard in it." Men Zi said with a smile.

Men Zi thought Ning Chao would scold her, or tie her up like last time. But she didn't expect that after saying this, Ning Chao's face, which looked serious and inviolable, suddenly turned red. It was really red.

She really wanted to reach out and touch the base of her ear to see how hot it was.

After listening to Men Zi's narration, Lin Weixia said nothing and gave Xiaomen a thumbs up. After finishing their meal, the two said goodbye at the entrance of the cafeteria. Men Zi went back to her studio to edit the film, while Lin Weixia went to the library to review her lessons. There was a professional level test in two days.

On Friday, Lin Weixia was teaching Song Yihang in the treatment room of his home. When the lesson was almost over, Song Yihang suddenly threw the toy in his hand to the ground, stood up, ran to the window, and stood on tiptoe to look out.

Lin Weixia looked over with a puzzled look, and it turned out that it was snowing.

White snowflakes fluttered in the air like goose feathers, instantly covering the gray ground and turning it into silver. Lin Weixia glanced at the time, walked out with her textbook, and stood in the living room. As usual, her aunt brought her a cup of steaming water.

Lin Weixia lowered her head and put her cell phone and keys into her bag. She took the cup, swallowed a few sips of water, returned the cup to the aunt, said thank you, picked up her scarf and bag, and was about to walk out.

"Teacher Lin, please stay here for lunch today. It's snowing outside and the road won't be easy to walk on for a while."

"No, I have an exam in the afternoon." Lin Weixia declined with a smile.

Lin Weixia turned around, took two steps, and found that someone was pulling her clothes. When she turned around, it was Song Yihang. He was holding Lin Weixia's clothes and refused to let go, looking down at the floor.

"It seems that the young master also wants to keep you." Auntie advised with a smile.

Lin Weixia was in a dilemma when a low voice like smoke came from the spiral staircase. Uncle Song Yihang, also known as Song Zhiyan, stood there and said:

"The roads are slippery on a snowy day. If you don't mind, Mr. Lin, you can stay and have lunch with us."

Having said this, it would be pretentious to refuse further, so Lin Weixia responded with a "yes".

The lunch was very sumptuous. Song Zhiyan hardly spoke while eating, as cold and serious as he was. Lin Weixia, on the other hand, lowered her head while eating, picking up dishes casually. When she saw the celery beef on the turntable, her eyes stopped.

Thinking of him again.

Because she was thinking of someone she had deliberately ignored, her chest felt a little tight. After eating a little, Lin Weixia had no appetite and put down her chopsticks. After the meal, Lin Weixia walked to the backyard of the Song family for a walk.

His family has a big back garden with a wooden horse standing in the middle. It is covered with thick white snow, leaving only a pair of eyes exposed, like a miniature snowman.

There were blood roses planted in the backyard, spreading underfoot. Snow kept falling on her shoulders. Lin Weixia stared into the distance in a daze. She took out the Marlboro and lighter that Ban Sheng had left behind last time from her pocket.

When she opened it, she saw that there were only seven cigarettes left in the red and white hardcover cigarette box. She took out a cigarette and put it in her mouth. She took Ban Sheng's lighter and started to light the cigarette. The orange-red flame ignited and was instantly extinguished by the wind.

Repeat this process.

I couldn't help feeling a little angry. Suddenly, a large and strong hand reached out to block the wind. I caught a glimpse of the sleeve of a brown plaid coat.

A cluster of fire continued to burn in front of her eyes. Lin Weixia lit the cigarette successfully and whispered thank you. The other party withdrew his hand in time.

Smoking is something that you only get used to the second time. Lin Weixia smoked and looked ahead without saying anything. Song Zhiyan glanced at Lin Weixia.

With a cigarette biting between her cherry-red lips, Lin Weixia put down the cigarette with a lazy expression. Although her smoking posture was a little awkward, she looked cool and moving when she squinted her eyes and exhaled the white smoke.

Like a cat.

"You look good when you smoke." Song Zhiyan couldn't help but praise.

Lin Weixia smiled and said, "If he knew I smoked, he would definitely get angry."

"Then he must like you very much." Song Zhiyan asserted.

Lin Weixia was stunned for a moment, then retorted: "Not necessarily, it may be the traditional concept of boys that girls can't smoke."

The cigarette burned out quickly, Lin Weixia threw it into the trash can, thanked Song Zhiyan for the hospitality, and left. Lin Weixia put on her scarf, took her commuter bag and left the Song family.

When she arrived at the bus stop, Lin Weixia waited for a long time and found that the bus was late. She logged into the bus app on her phone and found that due to the heavy snow today, buses on several routes had been suspended.

So she took a taxi instead. After clicking into the taxi app and entering the address, Lin Weixia found that the small green icon was rotating on the map, and then a page popped up prompting: Traffic was congested and you still needed to wait for 57 people.

Lin Weixia looked at the time and felt a little anxious. She wouldn't spend the whole afternoon here and miss the exam, right

She was just worrying when suddenly a black Bentley stopped in front of her. The window was half-lowered, revealing half of Song Zhiyan's stern face. He asked politely:

"Would you like me to give you a ride?"

Lin Weixia thought for a moment and got on the bus, saying thank you to him. After driving for forty minutes, the bus stopped steadily in front of the green bus stop near Beijing University.

The car door opened and a gust of whistling wind rushed in, making Lin Weixia so cold that she shrank her neck. As she stepped out of the car, she couldn't help but look towards the front of the school and immediately saw Ban Sheng in the crowd.

Ban Sheng disappeared for a week.

Ban Sheng also saw her, and their eyes met in mid-air. Lin Weixia stood there, unable to move for a moment and even wanted to run away.

A male voice came from behind, and Lin Weixia turned back in surprise. The car window was half-lowered, and Song Zhiyan returned the hair tie that had fallen to her. While Lin Weixia was talking, she felt a gaze falling on her.

After the car drove away, I turned around and the sight was gone.

Ban Sheng stood in the crowd, chatting and laughing with others, surrounded by a group of men and women of all kinds. He held a cigarette loosely in his hand and listened to people talking nonchalantly. Zhou Jingze was there too, with an unlit cigarette in his mouth. He touched his flight jacket but couldn't find a lighter.

The cigarette held in Ban Sheng's wet hands was emitting a scarlet flame. He raised his hand and reached it out. Zhou Jingze smiled lazily, bit the cigarette, tilted his neck and stretched it over to borrow his light.

After lighting the cigarette, Ban Sheng obviously saw it as well. His gaze stayed on her for less than a second before passing by very quickly.

His eyes were indifferent.

A passerby saw this scene and exclaimed: "That's Ban Sheng, right? The other one is Zhou Jingze from the Flight School of the University of Aeronautics and Astronautics next door."

"It's definitely them. How can this scene of two handsome guys in the same frame be so sexy? I wish I could take a picture and print it out to put on my bedside table."

Lin Weixia walked forward with her hands in her coat pockets. She walked forward on her own. When she passed by the group of people, the cold wind blew and ruffled her hair.

When passing by them, Ban Sheng didn't call her.

Instead, it was Zhou Jingze who called her.

Lin Weixia stopped, stood in front of them, and talked to Zhou Jingze. She wore a camel-colored silhouette coat, blue jeans, and a black and brown plaid scarf that was loosely wrapped around her hair, which was simple and elegant.

Ban Sheng didn't listen to their conversation carefully. His eyes swept to her face, and he saw her moist lips opening and closing. He also noticed that her fair cheeks were slightly red due to the cold.

"Why are you here today?"

"Come over to do something."

"Who was that just now? Is he your pursuit partner or your boyfriend?" Zhou Jingze asked with a smile.

"The person you don't know, the student's parent." Lin Weixia said.

Ban Sheng had been holding a cigarette in his hand but had not smoked it. The ash with sparks dripped onto the back of his hand, burning it. He felt a dull pain and caught a glimpse of a red dot in the middle of the soft flesh of her fair ear.

"I'm leaving now. I have an exam soon." Ban Sheng heard her say.

Lin Weixia lowered her head and passed by the tall and strong figure.

A gust of wind blew over, and the sweet smell in the air slowly dissipated. Ban Sheng withdrew his gaze from her, lowered his head, and lit another cigarette.
