Chapter 119: The bird that lays silver eggs

Before leaving the Forbidden Forest, Hagrid specially helped Albert dig some Matsutake mushrooms, but this thing is rare and in the end he didn't find many.

As soon as Hagrid opened the door of the hut, the black hound Fang came out of the hut, ran around them happily, and liked to sniff everywhere.

Albert squatted down and touched Yaya's head to calm it down.

Hagrid took out the matsutake mushrooms from his pocket and placed them all on the table. He picked up a matsutake mushroom, looked it up and down and asked, "Are you sure this thing will taste good when grilled?"

"Leave it to me!" Albert said confidently. He appeared to be as steady as a rock, and his heart was also as steady as a rock.

"If you want to fish, I have some fresh meat left here. You can use some for bait." Hagrid pointed to the large wooden barrel in the corner.

"What are you doing?" Albert raised his eyebrows as he looked at the raw meat in the barrel. He just smelled a bloody smell, which turned out to be coming from the barrel.

"Food prepared for the Thestrals. In winter, it's hard for the Thestrals to find food, so I occasionally go into the woods to feed them to ensure that the young ones in the group can survive the winter." Hagrid reached out and rubbed Fang's head. "Is this little bit of meat left over the dinner I prepared for Fang?"

"Are you sure this is edible?" Li Jordan asked, staring at the matsutake mushroom.

"Of course." Hagrid lit the unburned fire in the fireplace, put the copper kettle on it to boil, and then went outside to get a bucket of well water for Albert.

Albert took a sharp knife from the kitchen and scraped off the dirt at the roots of the matsutake. After washing it repeatedly, he took out his wand and made a complicated gesture. He pointed the tip of the wand at the freshly washed matsutake and chanted a drying spell. The water vapor immediately evaporated from the matsutake.

"You don't look like a first-year student now." Hagrid looked at Albert who was casting spells skillfully and sighed softly, "Your use of spells is completely beyond my imagination. It's hard to imagine that you come from a Muggle family?"

"Yeah!" George sighed softly, "I'd bet the two silver Sickles in my pocket that this guy knows more magic than a second-year student."

Albert ignored the teasing and asked, "Hagrid, do you have any olive oil?"

"There's still some left. If you need it, I'll get it for you."

"Excuse me."

Albert concentrated on using a sharp knife to cut the matsutake into thin slices.

"You're really too stingy!" Li Qiaodan picked up the thin slices of matsutake with his fingertips and said disdainfully, "How can such a thin slice taste?"

"Cut it thinly so it can be grilled later." Albert glared at Li Jordan and brushed a thin layer of olive oil on the matsutake. Then he took a piece of wood and turned it into a grill. He used tongs to pick out a few pieces of charcoal that were not completely burned from the fireplace and put them in the brazier. He put the grill on top and nodded with satisfaction, saying, "Finally, it feels like grilling."

"I think you're making too much of a fuss." Fred rolled his eyes at the busy Albert.

"Mm, this tastes good." Hagrid put the sausage he made aside, reached out and picked up the roasted matsutake mushrooms and threw them into his mouth, chewing and nodding, "It's very good, but the portion is too small."

Fred and his friends looked at each other, and they ate up the freshly roasted golden matsutake mushrooms as quickly as possible.

"I found this thing to have a pretty good chewiness."

"But, would it taste better if you add some salt?"

"I think it should be dipped in some sauce."

"Assholes, you ate up all my share." Albert glared at Fred and the other two when he saw that his freshly roasted matsutake mushrooms were snatched away.

"Your portion is for George!" Fred and Lee Jordan pointed at George.

"Ahem, there's still a lot on the plate anyway." George coughed dryly and picked up the sausages: "How about we grill the sausages?"

"Wait until I finish roasting the matsutake mushrooms." Albert glared at the three of them unhappily and continued with his work.

The barbecue didn’t last long because there were too few Matsutake mushrooms and each person only got a few slices. But everyone had to admit that the taste of Matsutake mushrooms was really good and left a lasting aftertaste.

Afterwards, they grilled some sausages that Hagrid had made himself, and drank a few cups of tea before returning to the Gryffindor common room with a sense of unfulfilled desire.

As for the cookies that Hagrid made himself, everyone politely declined. After all, their teeth were not that good and they really couldn't chew them.

When they returned to the Gryffindor common room, the banquet celebrating Gryffindor's victory had not yet ended, but the cakes and pies prepared had basically been eaten by everyone, with only some toffee and a few vegetable pies left.

"Where did you go?" Angelina stared at the four people who had just come in from the entrance in confusion.

"Into the woods with Hagrid," said George smugly.

"The game ranger actually brought you into the woods." Angelina was very surprised.

"Albert succeeded in convincing him," Fred explained. "We also heard that Professor Kettleburt, who is in charge of the Care of Magical Biology, lives in the woods."

"Are you kidding?" Sana came over and joined the discussion.

"No, it's true. We just happened to meet a witch who was about to visit Professor Kettlebur, apparently about the bird-snake matter." said Li Jordan.

"What is a bird snake?" Shanna asked curiously.

Lee Jordan choked and looked at Albert, asking his good friend for help.

"The bird snake is a winged, two-legged animal from Asia that can expand and contract its body at will, so it can grow large enough to fill any space, or shrink to fit the space available."

"I'm curious how you know so much about birds and snakes," George joked. "You must have memorized Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them."

"Bird snake eggs are also one of the ingredients for making the Felicis," Albert said unhappily, "so I checked it out."

"By the way, the shell of bird snake eggs is made of pure silver, that is, white silver." Albert looked around and saw the shocked expressions on the faces of several people. He nodded with satisfaction and continued, "It is said that the famous writer Gilderoy Lockhart once used bird snake eggs to make a bird snake egg yolk shampoo, which can really "lock in the luster". However, due to the price and danger, the bird snake egg yolk shampoo was not produced for the mass market. It was only sold on the black market, but it soon became extinct."

"Why?" Shanna asked in confusion.

"Because it's too expensive." Albert said as a matter of course.

"No wonder the Felicis is so expensive." Fred sighed.

"It's not that expensive, it's just that it's not available at all." Albert said unhappily, "Later, I looked up the raw materials of the Felixir and found out why almost no one would make that thing. The raw materials themselves are very expensive. If there is a failure in the manufacturing process, it will be an unbearable disaster for any pharmacist."
