Chapter 140: hint

"Books on ancient magic runes?" Madam Pince took the note and read out the contents softly. Then she looked at Albert with suspicion. "Professor Brod recently borrowed a large number of books related to ancient magic runes from the library."

"Yes, Professor Broad is conducting research in this area." Albert nodded.

Madam Pince held the paper up to the light to see if it was a forgery, and of course it passed the test with flying colors.

"There are not many books on ancient magic in the restricted section. Which one do you plan to borrow?" Madam Pince asked as she put away the note.

"I'm not sure yet. I need to read them all to know which one I need." Albert was not sure what he needed, but he knew that one of the missions in the "Magic Forbidden Zone" had been completed.

"Professor Broad asked you to borrow books?" Isobel walked over here and asked with a slightly frown. Most of the time, she came to help Professor Broad borrow books.

"No, I'm here to look for some information." Albert didn't hide anything. He lowered his eyes to the books in Isobel's hands and frowned slightly. "I feel like I'm still lacking something in ancient magic runes, so I hope to find the answer in the forbidden book section."

"Come with me, Mr. Anderson. However, I must remind you that most of the books related to ancient magic in the restricted section have been borrowed by Miss Isobel." Madam Pince reminded her. She could also hear that Albert knew Isobel, and both of them were helping Professor Broad.

When Albert was brought into a corner of the restricted book area by Madam Pince, he found that there were only a few books related to ancient magic runes left.

"Can I take a look over here?" Albert asked Mrs. Pince.

"Okay, but don't stay too long, and don't touch other books," Madam Pince warned. "I'll be watching you the whole time."

Albert did not care about Madam Pince's warning. He was going to look through the remaining books, looking for some records that he might need. But it must be said that these ancient books did have an annoying side. They were complicated, cumbersome, and not easy to understand. In today's terms, many things were described in a confusing way.

Albert flipped through several books in a row and felt that the only one that might help him was a book describing the use of ancient spells. Those spells all used ancient magic runes and came with introductions. Some were black magic, and some were not.

However, it's really weird. If I wasn't good at ancient magic runes, I wouldn't even understand what the book was saying.

This is a unique copy. It looks dirty and seems to be about to mold.

In fact, all the books in the restricted section look like this.

Albert had no intention of borrowing the book, but just copied the spells he thought were useful onto parchment. Perhaps he should ask Mr. McDougal instead of trying it himself, which was obviously not a wise choice.

After an unknown amount of time, Albert recorded more and more things on the parchment, but he still didn't find what he wanted.

"You don't seem to have found what you need?" Isobel sat beside Albert and said when he closed the book. The girl's eyes fell on Albert's parchment, and an unusual light flashed in her eyes.

"No." Albert knew it was not that simple, unless he wanted to use the skill panel, but if he did so, he would feel that he would lose the fun of exploring magic.

"What are you looking for?" Isobel was actually very curious about what Albert was looking for. In her opinion, Albert's attainments in ancient magic runes were already very high.

Runes are a kind of magical writing. Its essence may be a spell. Using it to cast spells, record magic, or carving it on natural materials such as stone and wood can give them unparalleled magical power.

"Are you looking for how to use ancient magic runes?" Isobel already understood what Albert was looking for, although it seemed quite ridiculous to her. If runes were really a magical text, why did almost no one mention it

"Mr. McDougal should have mastered how to use it." Albert shook the wooden bracelet on his hand and said self-deprecatingly, "Instead of being like me, who can only use the runes as meaningless decorations."

Isobel fell into a brief silence, then asked, "Can I borrow it to take a look?"

"Here." Albert took off the wooden bracelet and handed it to Isobel.

After observing it carefully, the latter asked softly, "What spell did you cast on it?"

"Iron Armor Spell."

"You want to use runes to enhance the effect of the Iron Armor Charm?" Isobel frowned, carefully identifying the runes on the wooden bracelet, and found that she couldn't understand them.

"Did you design it yourself?" she asked curiously.

"Well," said Albert, "as you can see, these runes are just a decoration."

"It looks complicated." Isobel returned the wooden bracelet to Albert. "What do you think you are missing?"

"Mr. McDougall said that to master the power of ancient magic words, one needs to be proficient in the use of runes, secondly, to have strong magical power as a foundation, and thirdly, to be proficient in the use of ancient magic spells."

"You are already satisfied with being proficient in the use of runes." Isobel thought for a moment and said, "But your age means that your magical power will take time to grow, and it is difficult to be proficient in the use of ancient spells."

"I think so too, but it's not too bad after all." Albert pointed to the parchment. "I found some spells that use ancient magic runes, but they are all likely to be powerful and crude."

"What do you think is missing?" Isobel wanted to hear Albert's personal opinion. After all, he was a genius and it was impossible for him to have no ideas of his own.

"A spell, or a way to channel the power of runes," Albert said honestly, "but I still haven't found the right method."

"Maybe, there is a book that might be suitable for you." Isobel pointed to the books she brought back.

"The Complete Guide to Magic." Albert glanced at the title of the book and raised his eyebrows.

"Yes, the Complete Guide to Magic. It is said to be a book that introduces the understanding of magic by wizards in ancient times. Unfortunately, it is all recorded in runes, and I can't understand it."

Uncle McDougal asked Isobel to return the book to Professor Broad after she returned to his office. She felt it was a hint to Albert.

However, Isobel didn't understand why Uncle McDougal was trying to give Albert hints in a roundabout way. Wouldn't it be better to just tell Albert directly

"Very strange." Albert flipped through a few pages and nodded, "I feel like it might be useful to me, thank you."

"You're welcome," Isobel said. "If you learn anything, please share it with me."

"Okay." Albert said. He put the parchment into his pocket, took the book and walked out of the restricted area with Isobel.

"Isobel?" Katrina, who was registering the borrowing information, looked at her sister who came out of the restricted area in surprise. Her eyes fell on Albert again and she raised her eyebrows slightly and asked, "Professor Broad asked you to borrow books?"

Katrina knew something about McDougal's affairs, and she also knew that Isobel had been helping Professor Broad borrow books from the library. To be honest, Katrina envied these two lucky guys, because Uncle McDougal was always very generous.
