Daily Life at Hogwarts

Chapter 20: At the banquet

Views:

The freshmen were all amazed at Dumbledore's magical powers, but they were already starving and were more concerned about the delicious food in front of them rather than studying how the headmaster did it.

Albert knew how this was done. Dumbledore used the magic left by Hufflepuff to transport it up from the kitchen under the Great Hall. The Hufflepuff Gold Cup, which was used as Voldemort's Horcrux, was the first vessel in Hogwarts to assist the house-elves in transporting magical food.

Albert naturally did not forget to test the class leader beside him with this matter, but the other party's mouth was full of food and he obviously did not intend to answer the question.

The dinner was rich.

Although it is not exquisite, it can definitely fill everyone's stomach.

Albert got himself a steak and cut it slowly. He was not very hungry, and he had been eating all the way.

Everyone else started eating with their stomachs full. Li Jordan, who was sitting opposite, was gnawing on a chicken leg in one hand, looking very funny.

After the banquet began, ghosts appeared one after another, emerging from all over the castle, greeting the freshmen and causing a commotion.

The ghost of Gryffindor is a male noble, probably the legendary Almost Headless Nick.

"Mr. Ghost." Albert swallowed the beef and greeted Nick who was almost headless.

“I think I should prefer you to call me Sir Nicholas Deminsey Porpington,” said the Ghost.

"Sir Nicholas Deminsey-Porpington." Albert finished the long name. He was quite impressed with his instant memory for being able to remember Nick's name. "Can you take a picture? I mean, can you appear in the picture?"

"What? Kid, I don't understand what you're saying?" Sir Nicholas was very happy that someone pronounced his name. He hated newcomers calling him "Almost Headless Nick".

"Take a picture," Albert said. "Please take a picture with me some other time."

"Okay, kid, if you want to do something that day, oh, take a photo, you can come find me." Sir Nicholas agreed. He had a good impression of the polite little guy.

"Can I ask one more question?"

"Ask, kid."

"What is a ghost? Is it a soul after death?"

"Wizards can leave their mark on the human world and walk ethereally in the places they walked in their lifetime, but only a few wizards choose this path." Sir Nicholas did not answer Albert's question directly.

"A memory? It doesn't look like one, so... is it really a soul?" Albert muttered to himself. He knew that souls existed in the magical world.

After all, Voldemort had his soul chopped into pieces.

When he came back to his senses from his thoughts, he found that everyone around him was staring at him

"What's wrong?" Albert asked puzzledly.

"Nothing?" The others quickly retracted their gazes.

"I still think you should be sorted into Ravenclaw," Fred said slurringly.

"Swallow it before you talk." Albert said unhappily.

"Why are you curious about ghosts?" asked a freshman.

"In the Muggle world, there are no such magical things as ghosts." Albert said calmly, "Now that I have the opportunity to learn about it, I naturally don't want to miss it. By the way, it will feel very cold if you are passed through by a ghost, so you'd better be careful next time."

He had just secretly poked Nick with his finger, which felt very cold. Passing it through their bodies would probably be like being drenched in ice water.

This would not be a pleasant experience in winter.

"Indeed, there are no ghosts in the Muggle world." A girl sitting two chairs away from Albert spoke up. Her name was Shanna Wilson.

"To be honest, when my family received the letter, they thought it was a prank. When Professor McGonagall came to visit, they almost kicked her out." Shanna Wilson found it very funny. "In fact, they didn't really want me to come here."

"My situation is similar. My mother almost called the police to have Professor McGonagall arrested." Albert said with a smile, "People who live on the scientific side usually have a poor ability to accept abnormalities. They hope that I will go to Eton College."

"Eton College, is that that Eton College?" Shanna Wilson was surprised.

"What is that?" Li Qiaodan asked in confusion.

“It’s one of the best schools in the UK,” Shanna Wilson explained.

"Hogwarts is the best." George raised his eyebrows.

"Of course I know, because there is only one magic school in the UK, so Hogwarts is naturally the best." Shanna Wilson couldn't help but disdainfully said, "Ordinary people, or what you call Muggles, have thousands of schools, and Eton College is among the top three. I don't need to tell you what this means!"

"It seems very powerful." George disagreed. In fact, he really didn't understand.

"Don't just talk about us, talk about your things too." Albert changed the subject and looked at the other girl.

"I'm half and half, my mother is a wizard and my father is a Muggle." Angelina Johnson said, "They confessed to each other very early. However, we have always lived in the Muggle world. I have been exposed to magic since I was a child, and my family was not too surprised when I received the invitation."

Alicia Spinnet, who was beside her, said, "I was born into a wizard family and have been exposed to magic since I was a child. It's nothing new. When I received the letter, my family was very happy and bought me an owl."

After everyone had eaten, the remaining food on the plates disappeared, replaced by portions of dessert.

Albert took a pudding and listened to the freshmen's interesting stories.

When the feast was over, the table was cleared of plates again, plates like the ones Tom had licked.

Professor Dumbledore stood up again and announced to everyone, "I am delighted that the school has a new professor. Professor Badblood will be the new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor."

Sparse applause began to be heard in the auditorium.

Professor Badbrod is an elderly man.

"There are a few more things to inform you." Dumbledore looked at all the students below and said, "First-year students, please note that students are prohibited from entering the woods on campus. In addition, the administrator Mr. Filch also asked me to remind everyone not to perform magic in the corridors during class breaks. Finally, the review of Quidditch players will be held in the second week of this semester. Students who are interested in joining the house team, please contact Madam Hooch."

"Why can't we enter the Forbidden Forest?"

"Maybe there is danger in the Forbidden Forest." Albert glanced at the twins who were eager to try and said.

"If you dare to go to the Forbidden Forest, I will write to tell Mother." Percy Weasley glared at his younger brother fiercely. He knew their personalities too well.

"We won't," the twins quickly assured.
