Chapter 392: Vampires retreat

The matter of the treasure map still bothered Harry. He was just one step away from finding the treasure on the treasure map.

However, the treasure map did not mark the location of the treasure, which made Harry feel inexplicably annoyed. It was obviously just the last step away from success, and it would be really unwilling to fail before success.

Ron kept muttering about his guesses, but he couldn't provide any real help. Instead, he disrupted Harry's thoughts and made him very depressed.

After several days of pondering, Harry finally came up with a possibility, which was to take Hagrid's pumpkin patch as the center and walk fifteen steps in all directions.

As for, why fifteen steps, and not fifteen feet, or something else

In fact, it is impossible for most students to get accurate measuring tools. If they take fifteen steps normally, there will definitely not be too big an error.

After listening to this, Ron felt that Harry must have been thinking about the treasure map all the time, which caused his thinking to become confused and a little neurotic.

After all, these things were all Harry's guesses.

Ron felt that the guy who made this treasure map must have been trying to play a trick on the students who later discovered the treasure map. He was a complete bastard.

When the rain stopped on Saturday afternoon, Harry and Ron hurried to Hagrid's hunting cabin with the treasure map, ready to dig for the so-called treasure.

"You said there was treasure near my pumpkin patch?"

After listening to Harry's excited narration, Hagrid paused while pouring tea for them. He put down the copper kettle, reached out to take the treasure map handed over by Harry, and after carefully examining it, he shook his head and said, "Don't be fooled by such things. I dare say that this so-called treasure map must be fake. Someone wants to use it to trick the students who found the treasure map. If it is real, I will eat this treasure map on the spot."

"I think it's fake too," Ron agreed immediately.

"Hagrid, do you know what the pumpkin has to do with fifteen?" Harry ignored Hagrid's words and talked about the information about "fifteen" that the ghost girl told him.

"have no idea."

Hagrid threw a piece of rock cake into his mouth, then took a sip of strong tea, turned his head and asked, "Didn't the ghost girl tell you other news?"

"No," Ron answered for Harry.

Harry drank his hot tea, turned his head to look at the pumpkin patch outside the window, and then looked at the map on the table. Suddenly he understood something and said loudly: "I know!"

"What did you know?" Ron looked at Harry in surprise.

Hagrid also looked at Harry with curiosity, waiting for his next sentence.

However, Harry didn't seem to intend to explain. He put down his teacup and walked quickly out of the house.

Hagrid and Ron looked at each other, not knowing what to say.

The two followed Harry out, only to see him counting the stone steps outside the pumpkin patch.

That’s right, stone steps.

They had just come to Hagrid's hunting lodge via this winding stone staircase.

And Hagrid's Pumpkin Patch is right next to Hagrid's Hunting Lodge, so if there's anything that goes with fifteen, then the fifteenth step certainly does it.

"Harry, did you find anything?" Ron came to Harry's side and couldn't help asking.

"No." Harry stood on the fifteenth step and looked around, trying to find the suspected treasure buried. He was a little depressed because there was no so-called treasure.

"Harry, do you think the treasure might be there?" Ron suddenly pointed to a place and shouted. In his sight, there was a strange branch stuck in the ground, with the upper half exposed.

"Yes, maybe it's there. I dare say that must be the mark of the treasure." Harry ran over excitedly. He felt that he might really have found the treasure.

Hagrid reached out and pulled the branch out of the ground, glanced at it and threw it aside, then took a shovel to help Harry dig the soil.

Sure enough, there was a palm-sized wooden box buried under the branches.

"Haha, I didn't expect to really find treasure." Harry excitedly picked up the box from the soil, wiped off the damp soil on it, and opened the wooden box.

Ron and Hagrid also leaned over to see what the legendary treasure was.

There was a small bottle in the wooden box.

"What is this?" Ron reached out and picked up the bottle sealed with beeswax. After examining it carefully, he said to Harry, "There seems to be something in the bottle."

"It looks like a cross?"

Harry took the bottle and looked at it carefully, then asked uncertainly, "What are those wax-like things in there?"

"Would you like to open it and take a look?" Hagrid asked tentatively.

"Harry, there's another one in the wooden box." Ron picked up a piece of copper that read: Vampires, go away.

"Vampires, please retreat?"

Harry took the copper piece and flipped through it carefully. It was indeed just these few words. He looked at Hagrid beside him in confusion and asked, "Have you ever seen a vampire?"

"I've seen them and dealt with them. To be honest, most vampires are not very friendly. However, I think this cross amulet is designed to deal with vampires." Hagrid expressed his guess and asked Harry if he wanted to open the bottle.

"Open it!" Harry said. He was also very curious about what kind of amulet was inside that could drive away vampires

"I'll do it."

When Ron opened the bottle, everyone present smelled a terrible pungent odor that came out of the bottle and made people want to vomit.

"Ugh, ugh, what the hell is this!"

When Ron smelled the strange smell, he half-knelt beside him and began to dry heave. Even Harry, who stepped aside, felt a little nauseous.

"Seal it up," Hagrid shouted.

Harry immediately stepped forward and resealed the bottle that Ron had thrown on the ground. The pungent smell became a little lighter.

"Don't tell me that the so-called vampire repellent means using that deadly garlic smell to smoke away the vampires." Harry complained while panting.

"That's possible!" Ron said with lingering fear.

"I bet no one would wear an amulet that smells so strong and scary." Hagrid couldn't help muttering.

"Professor Quirrell, maybe Professor Quirrell has one. Don't forget, Professor Quirrell has a very strong strange smell on his body." Ron suggested, "How about we give this 'Vampires Go Away' to Quirrell?"

After all, Professor Quirrell did say that he was a little worried that vampires would come to trouble him, so he made himself smell bad. Maybe he would need this thing.

Of course, Ron was actually afraid that Harry might suddenly become crazy and start wearing this strange-smelling amulet, which would make his friend smell strange.

"Well, I think he'll need this thing." Harry nodded, obviously agreeing with Ron's suggestion. After all, it would be useless for them to take this so-called treasure, so it would be better to let it be used by someone who needed it.
