Chapter 48: compensate

The three-day work trip ended in the blink of an eye, and the time to return home was set for the next morning. When Liu Jie and Lu Jingshen talked about it, he hesitated for a moment, but did not agree immediately: "Let's talk about it later."

Liu Jie reminded him that he had other work next week, and Lu Jing said calmly, "I know."

As for how late it would be, he didn't say. Liu Jie thought about it and decided not to ask.

After finishing work completely at night, Lu Jingshen rented a car again and drove alone aimlessly on the streets of a strange city in a foreign country. Before he knew it, he arrived downstairs of Feng Si's house.

The car was parked in the same place as last time. He picked up his phone to check the time. It was just nine o'clock.

I wasn’t sure whether Feng Si was still outside or had already returned home. I was unwilling to give up and didn’t want to go back like this.

He lit a cigarette and held it between his fingers. He looked at his tired and lifeless eyes in the rearview mirror and frowned in annoyance.

Not only could Feng Si not bear it, he himself hated the way he looked.

Time passed by little by little, and after twelve o'clock, there was still no sign of Feng Si.

I won't always be so lucky to wait for him. Lu Jingshen breathed a sigh of relief and after hesitating, he sent a message to Feng Si.

After waiting for half an hour and getting no reply, he leaned over the steering wheel, his eyelids drooping with fatigue, and just like last time, he gradually fell asleep.

It was impossible to sleep well in such a place. Lu Jingshen had another dream in a daze. He dreamed of a dark basement, a pungent smell of decay, blood, and a foul-smelling rotting corpse.

The fear and gloom left him with nowhere to escape, and the scene suddenly changed.

The tropical wind brushed across his cheeks, the sun was shining brightly overhead, and ahead of him was sometimes a wild and rugged desert, sometimes a passionate and unrestrained wilderness. He had the warmth of another person by his side, who repeatedly made him dizzy and sink during those short but memorable three months, and who became his salvation.

But he was eventually swallowed up by those shadows. From then on, his world was no longer filled with the blazing sun, but only with long and endless cold rain and ice.

The chill that penetrated into his bones brought Lu Jingshen back to reality. It was snowing outside the window. Only a little time had passed, and Feng Si still hadn't replied to his message.

When it was getting light, Lu Jingshen opened his eyes again. He was awakened by someone knocking on the car window. Outside the window was a kind-looking oriental woman who looked at him worriedly and gestured for him to open the window.

Lu Jingshen rolled down the window, and the other person asked him in English: "Sir, are you okay? I saw you sleeping here when I just left, and I saw you still here when I came back. Are you feeling unwell? Do you need help?"

Lu Jingshen was probably dazed by being suddenly woken up. He stared at the woman's familiar eyes and forgot to react for a moment.

The other party thought he didn't understand English, so he tried to ask in Chinese: "Sir, can you understand what I'm saying?"

Lu Jingshen nodded, opened the car door and got out, thanking the people: "I'm fine, thank you."

The woman was relieved and reminded him: "Don't sleep here. It's so cold. Be careful not to catch a cold."

Lu Jingshen blurted out: "Excuse me, do you know Feng Si?"

The other party was stunned, then smiled: "Are you here to look for Feng Si? I'm his mother."
