Deep Sea Embers

Chapter 50: Zhou Ming

Views:

I am now on the "opposite" side of the door.

After confirming this fact, Duncan involuntarily moved closer to the crack in the door and carefully observed the situation on the other side.

This reminded him of his previous experience after exploring the bottom of the cabin, and how he immediately returned to the bachelor apartment to check the situation on the other side of the door - a familiar mentality, a familiar scene.

But just like last time, there was no other "Duncan" on the other side of the door stabbing this way with a sword.

Duncan frowned slightly.

He had now reached this side of the door and had witnessed the situation there with his own eyes. He had even searched the entire ship, but had not found anything wrong during the search.

Then... what on earth was that guy who tried to disguise himself and whom I saw through the crack in the bottom door of the ship in the real dimension

Duncan frowned slightly, turned around and looked around the empty and dim cabin, as if he wanted to find the thing that disguised itself as "Zhou Ming" here - he remembered that he had stabbed the opponent with a sword at that time, but if this was really the subspace, then a simple sword should not be enough to kill the opponent, and at least some traces should be left here.

But no, there was no trace.

After searching carefully, Duncan finally began to doubt his judgment.

Then his gaze returned to the door.

As he expected, the ordinary sign on the door was still there!

Zhou Ming put his hand on the door handle and a smile appeared on his face.

"About 1.40m - not very strong, but in good shape.

This figure is my own reflection in the mirror.

With a slight click, the door closed tightly. Zhou Ming silently stared at the door that was not yet closed. After a few seconds, his expression tensed for a moment, and then gradually relaxed. However, his heart seemed to react half a beat slowly, and at this moment it suddenly started pounding.

However, this door may not exist - even if this ship really "does not exist", this door must exist, because it can even exert an influence on oneself that appears to be "tempting oneself to open the door" and possesses extraordinary power. This thing definitely exists here!

Huge confusion filled Zhou Ming's mind, but he found it difficult to sort out his thoughts. He checked everywhere beyond the door and in the entire cabin, but he couldn't find any clues to answer his doubts. As time passed, he could only give up for the time being.

I seem to have not found the entrance and exit connecting the subspace and the real dimension on the ship. In theory, I should be able to return to the real world by pushing the door out from there.

"your height?"

That strange Chinese.

"Duncan." His heart almost skipped a beat and he subconsciously took half a step forward. But it was not the forward movement that made me realize that the object opposite was actually a mirror.

"About eighty-seven years old

He calmed himself down and put his hand on the door handle.

Looking around, one can only see endless darkness, the ultimate pure black, as if everything has not yet died out, as if the universe is filled with a special darkness.

After an unknown amount of time, he took a deep breath and took another quick step forward.

Gradually frowned.

Then he lowered his head and looked at the new ripples caused by his half-step forward, and saw the words emerging in the ripples - the feeling of penetrating the thick fog came over him, followed by a brief feeling of weightlessness and confusion and dizziness, but soon this feeling faded away, and Duncan slowly opened his eyes.

The door to the lost.

The door of the captain's room stood there quietly, retaining the same appearance as when he left.

He didn't even feel the door.

In the two seconds when the door was closed, he emptied his mind and thought about nothing. He did not consider returning to the real world, being trapped here, or any consequences. He only gave himself a strong hint that "that door is safe", and then he did it without hesitation - and only until the door was completely closed did he let go of the emotions that he had forcibly suppressed.

The wave was released and a deep breath was taken.

"my age?"

Even though it was pitch black there, as if there was nothing, there was ground under his feet - when he took a step forward, he could feel his feet firmly on solid ground.

Just like the ship, in his perception, the door did not exist!

That kind of extremely dark space is enough to make anyone feel extremely depressed or even terrified. Duncan also knew this. However, for some reason, he stood there without any resistance. Instead... he felt an inexplicable sense of relaxation and comfort.

This door connects to everything I am familiar with, and also brings me the first and greatest mystery in this world.

Facing the real world is the "Lost Homeland" I am facing.

If I were to ask what is the most meaningful thing on this ship to me, it would be this door.

Duncan looked up and could vaguely see a few unfamiliar words on the door frame in the dim light.

I don't know what that strange feeling of relaxation was, but intellectually, I knew that my condition was very right. The conflict between reason and senses made me doubly cautious, and I tried to take a step back.

Zhou Ming shook his head gently and put aside those confusions for the time being, but he couldn't help but sigh in his heart - the subspace is really a place full of mysteries.

It's not just two lines of text, it looks like a question and an answer.

After a moment of determination, Duncan took a step forward.

He exerted a little force with his hands and pushed the door outwards. With the slight sound of the door hinge turning, the "Door of the Lost Homelanders" was pushed open as if it was unfamiliar to him. On the other side of the door was a thick fog that was equally unfamiliar to him.

These things I saw through the crack in the door... maybe they were just illusions created by the subspace, phantoms that only I could see at that time. This also fits the characteristic that "the subspace will reflect the mind."

Unexpectedly tense - he still remembered that when he and Alice saw this door in the real dimension, they also tried to close the door, but found that the whole door seemed to be cast in the space and solid. No matter how much force he used, he couldn't push it at all. However, on the other side of the door, closing it only required a slight pull.

But Duncan's attention was not on those huge floating objects. He went straight across the empty deck and returned to the door of the captain's room.

Words emerge in my footsteps:

Duncan felt his heart pounding. He subconsciously changed direction and took another step in the darkness.

"What do I look like?"

He did not return to the bachelor apartment where he had lived for a long time.

The dilapidated and old Lost Homeland was still floating in the chaotic darkness that seemed like the universe. The turbulent light and shadows that appeared from time to time in the surrounding area often reflected some huge and terrifying shadows of fragments, which slowly floated by from far or near. Some of these fragments looked like complete land, some were huge and twisted creatures, and some were simply completely unrecognizable. They were just a pile of simple "pile of objects" that had not lost their color and shape, which was terrifying to look at.

"What is my name?"

Then pull it gently and close the door.

Duncan immediately summed up a new experience: on the "old and dilapidated Lost Homeland", after pushing open the door of the Lost Homelander, he did not return to the bachelor apartment, but entered a strange, dark space.

“It looks like this.”

I stood in darkness.

But... I can't explain why this phantom didn't affect my mind at all, and was even easily solved.

A middle school teacher who teaches Chinese and loves reading.

We can't waste all our time in this weird place - since this "exit" at the bottom of the cabin poses a huge hidden danger, we should find another way out.

Duncan lowered his head and looked at the place where he landed, and at this moment, he suddenly saw some ripples under his feet, and the dark place actually showed colors other than darkness - words emerged from the ripples.

Duncan's eyes changed slightly, and then he took another tentative step forward. Sure enough, the moment he landed, new ripples emerged in the darkness, still in Chinese, and still a question-and-answer sentence:

He immediately turned and walked towards the stairs leading to the lower cabin, quickly passed through the dark and empty cargo hold and the crew cabin below, passed through the wooden door connecting the lower deck and the cabin, and came to the deck.

Although there was no clear evidence, a strong intuition reminded Duncan that the way to return to reality was not as simple as pushing the door out from there - this was a temptation, a trap. He had experienced a temptation in the cabin of the Lost Homeland in the real dimension, and now this was the second time.

, more secretive and more difficult to guard against than the first time.

There might really be an "exit" connecting to the real world, but we must never really push that door open!

Duncan stopped and watched quietly as the ripples under his feet gradually spread. The grayish-white Chinese characters became increasingly turbid in the ripples, then returned to brightness and dissipated as the ripples spread.

In the darkness, a bright light suddenly appeared, and something seemed to condense into shape in the light in an instant. Suddenly, a figure appeared on the opposite side, a figure exactly like himself!

Over there, the door was slightly open toward the outside of the door frame, while in the real dimension, at the bottom of the cabin of the Lost Homeland, the door was open a crack toward the inside, and the two corresponded to each other.

"my occupation?"

Duncan stared at the door with deep eyes, then slashed the door panel with the sword in his hand that was burning with spiritual flames. The dark green flame burned in the air and almost instantly engulfed the entire door. However, after a burst of burning, the door still stood here quietly, as if it was not affected at all.

While thinking, Duncan suddenly remembered something.

Faced with something that clearly belonged to the supernatural realm, the spiritual flame failed for the first time. However, it was not because the door was not strong enough - on the contrary, he did not feel any resistance from the feedback of the flame.

Duncan lowered his head and saw that it was indeed his body as an "Earthling". He turned around and saw that the door he came from was standing there quietly, standing in the darkness, and remained open.
