Dimensional Expedition

Chapter 58: 58. Sketching in the wild

At noon, Nancy did not follow the refugees to collect food, but came to the forest beside the Green Leaf River on the left side of the camp.

In her hands she held a charcoal pencil and a slightly old notebook.

This notebook was the one she used during her time studying at the Gemansis Secret Society. It recorded her various insights and realizations on magic research, as well as some of her experiences at the Gemansis Secret Society.

And today this notebook will be used to record her experiences in this foreign camp.

Nancy was looking at the edge of the Green Leaf River in the distance in the forest. Beside the Green Leaf River, a group of people were putting a huge "iron block" into the river.

She was sure that this strangely shaped piece of iron was also a special kind of golem, but Nancy was not quite sure about the golem's function for the time being.

Nancy picked up a pen and quickly sketched the shape of the strange golem on the leaf paper.

Nancy was absolutely sure that this group of people mastered a lot of magic that was far beyond this world, such as the light balls used for lighting in the camp.

When no one was in the tent, Nancy moved a chair to study the structure and principle of the light ball.

But unfortunately, the knowledge learned from the Gemansis Secret Society seems to be of no use here.

Although the ball of light was made of glass, there was no magical aura inside it, and Nancy did not see any inscription structure.

In the end, Nancy spent a lot of time trying to figure out the principle of how the light ball glowed.

Nancy couldn't even figure out a simple ball of light, so she thought she would have no chance of figuring out a golem that looked like a giant carriage.

But these did not stop Nancy's spirit of inquiry.

She sacrificed her lunch time to come here and happened to see them building another golem.

This made Nancy very excited. Being able to see the construction process meant that... she might be able to find out the secrets about these golems.

But unfortunately, after watching for almost an hour, Nancy still didn't understand what the group of people wanted to do by throwing the golem into the water.

Could it be absorbing the magic of flowing water

This was Nancy's guess and also the most reliable guess, because Nancy saw that after they installed the golem, they began to pull a black rope as thick as two people's arms.

They seemed intent on pulling the black rope all the way into the camp.

This made Nancy certain that they were using the golems to extract some kind of energy from the river water and then use it to power various facilities in the camp.

Not to mention the method of absorption, Nancy didn't even understand what kind of energy was being absorbed.

Because she couldn't feel any magic power in the golem, but it didn't rule out that they attached inscriptions that blocked magic power on the surface of the golem.

Nancy needed to wait until the group of people left before she could study the golem carefully, but before that she drew the golem's appearance and the installation process in a small notebook.

“Your painting is quite beautiful.”

Suddenly... a strange voice came from behind Nancy. The moment the voice sounded, Nancy was so scared that her shoulders shook and she almost screamed.

But she was still calm and controlled her inner fear. She turned around immediately and pulled out the dagger she was carrying and pointed it at the person behind her.

"Hello." Lu Cheng greeted the other party in a formal manner.

"I'm... just lost."

Although Nancy was making excuses, she held the dagger tightly in one hand and watched Lu Cheng's every move.

How was she discovered? Nancy made sure that no one was following her when she came here... and she was a long way from the installation site of the golem beside the Green Leaf River.

But now she couldn't afford to think so much.

There is a reason why Nancy is so nervous. In the Gemansis Secret Society, the method of making each golem is a taboo that cannot be passed on to outsiders.

If an apprentice is found to have stolen the method of making a golem, he will only be sentenced to death. This is true in all countries.

Nancy was sketching at the risk of her life.

"You're interested in hydroelectric generators?"

Lu Cheng did not cooperate with Nancy's performance because there was no need to do so. Lu Cheng said this sentence in their common language.

"Hydroelectric generator?" It took Nancy a moment to realize that it was the name of the golem.

"Even if you draw its appearance, it's useless if you don't know the internal structure... and even if you know the internal structure, you can't build it without the supporting facilities." Lu Cheng said.

Nancy did not answer Lu Cheng. The inscription on her arm emitted a dim light, and she was ready to release magic and escape.

"You'd better consider the consequences before you release magic."

Lu Cheng was already prepared to dodge things like fireballs, icicles, and vines, and where Nancy couldn't see, someone was already aiming a gun at Nancy.

Lu Cheng was not sure to what extent the magic in this world could attack, so he adopted the most conservative means.

After hearing Lu Cheng's reminder, Nancy changed her original offensive magic into Dazzling Flash, a spell used to escape.

"Will you imprison me? Or execute me directly?" Before releasing her, she still wanted to confirm with Lu Cheng how this group of people would treat her as a 'peeping bird'.

"Imprisonment? Execution. Why would we do that?"

Lu Cheng couldn't keep up with the girl's thoughts for a while.

"Because I spied on the construction process of your golem."

Nancy glanced at the Green Leaf River, but the next second her eyes were focused on Lu Cheng again. She tensed her nerves, and no matter what movement came from any corner, she would release the magic she had chanted.

"You may have misunderstood something. Hydroelectric generators are not some secret that will kill anyone who sees them." Lu Cheng probably understood why the girl was nervous. "The one we are installing now is a medium-sized hydroelectric generator. Although it has been modified, it is only used temporarily for a period of time. It is a very cheap item in our world."

"Cheap?" It was the first time Nancy heard someone use the word cheap to describe the golem.

"At least compared to the first-level hydroelectric power of the Three Gorges Dam, it is indeed cheap." Lu Cheng said something off topic and turned the topic to her. "I know your identity. You are the princess of the kingdom next door... Xiu Enzhelai. You came to Skare as an envoy a year ago."

"Did the Queen of Skarre tell you that?"

Nancy didn't think her identity would be kept secret for long, as Lu Cheng would be able to find out with a little inquiry.

"One of her generals. The reason you stayed in this camp instead of returning to Xiu Enzhe Kingdom, I think, in addition to gathering intelligence about us, is that you want to learn our knowledge?"

Lu Cheng heard the hostility in Nancy's voice when she mentioned Queen Scarlett, and this hostility was more like a feeling of competition.

If you think about it carefully, if Scarre gets the help of the rabbits and grows stronger, it will definitely not be good news for the surrounding countries.

"Are you willing to share your knowledge with us?" Nancy asked cautiously.

"It's more like a transaction than sharing. Everything has a bargaining chip, and knowledge is undoubtedly the most valuable asset." Lu Cheng thought that he could finally have a good talk with the princess.

"I agree with what you said, but what do you want?"

This is also the life value that Nancy has always established. She looked at the golem called a hydroelectric generator beside the river again. She really didn't understand what such a powerful country needed, land? Minerals? Or something else.

"We need a lot of things, but before that, don't you think it's rude to show your weapons during a conversation?" Lu Cheng pointed at the glowing inscription on the back of Nancy's hand.

Nancy thought about it for a moment, and after realizing that she absolutely could not escape from them, she stopped casting the spell...
