Chapter 28: Pitiful

Cinemas are still located in relatively remote places.

Even though it was a weekend, there weren't many people around, so Xia Yu and Lu Zhao sat in the last row.

Xia Yu didn't ask what movie it was.

He is sometimes very casual when watching movies and likes to open blind boxes. He doesn't get angry even if the movie is bad, but instead thinks about what is bad about it.

But he doesn't like watching tragedies very much.

So Lu Zhao looked for film reviews in advance. It was an open ending. The 30-year-old heroine met her first love again on the plane, and the story ended abruptly.

Xia Yu watched with great interest.

But when he saw the heroine celebrating her 29th birthday, he turned and looked at Lu Zhao next to him.

Lu Zhao is also twenty-nine years old.

But compared to the down-and-out and dejected heroine, Lu Zhao can be said to be full of vigor and vitality.

The heroine lost her job, her family relationships are very bad, and her best friend just passed away. She is extremely unlucky.

Her lover said goodbye to her and left in the early morning dragging his suitcase without looking back.

Xia Yu heard the young couple in front of him sighing softly and saying, "How pitiful."

But he may have passed the time of sentimentality. When he watched the movie, he no longer had any compassion for the world. He was just watching a strange story.

With popcorn crumbs stuck to his lips, Xia Yu said to Lu Zhao, "I don't think anyone will ever call you pathetic in your life."

Lu Zhao didn't understand what he meant.

Xia Yu rolled his tongue and licked the popcorn in, saying nonchalantly, "The girl in front was saying that the heroine was pitiful, and it suddenly occurred to me that you are also 29 years old, but you are born with a very superior face." Xia Yu smiled and lowered his voice a little, "Just like the villain who will survive to the end in a doomsday movie, even his exit will be arrogant."

So this is what it means.

Lu Zhao glanced at Xia Yu, and Xia Yu sat back after he finished speaking and continued to stare at the screen.

After a while, he whispered, "Someone else has said that."

Xia Yu didn't understand and said, "Huh?"

Lu Zhao repeated it again, "Some people also said that I looked pitiful."

Xia Yu was happy, "Who is it?"

Lu Zhao shook his head and said nothing.

Xia Yu didn't ask any more questions.

The movie had reached a critical point and he went back to watching the plot.

Lu Zhao also stared at the screen.

He didn't want to say it because he was described as pitiful by others. It was his mother who said that after Xia Yu's wedding.

And her next sentence was, but this is your own fault.

His hand reached over the armrest and held Xia Yu. Xia Yu struggled a little, but without much force, and soon followed Lu Zhao.

Lu Zhao was absent-minded throughout the second half.

He doesn't care what's in the movie, nor does he care about the heroine's messy life.

All he cared about was "watching a movie with Xia Yu".

He and Xia Yu sat in the dark movie theater, in the last row, in a corner where no one noticed.

It felt like a normal college date.

When he was in his twenties, he also accompanied Xia Yu to the movies many times.

He doesn't have much romantic sense. When two people are together like this, the whole world is quiet, and he enjoys the joys and sorrows of others. This is a silent romance for him.
