Chapter 146: Alchemy of Death

Just as Merlin said, a few minutes later Lorenzo was in a steel cage.

It was more like a heavily guarded interrogation room than a cage. There were electrified iron bars between Lorenzo and Merlin, and judging from the blood in the air, this was not a good place.

The two men maintained a strange silence until Arthur arrived, and the three of them reunited, but this time Lorenzo was tied to an iron bed. Pulling the mechanism, the entire iron bed slowly folded up so that Lorenzo could stand up while sitting.

"So why on earth are you so nervous, Merlin?"

Lorenzo said slowly, this series of events made him a little irritated.

"You'll find out next, Mr. Holmes."

Merlin nodded to Arthur, and the two of them sat across from Lorenzo, looking like they would be punished with leniency if they confessed and would be punished with severity if they resisted.

"So… "

"Mr. Holmes, can you tell me about your experience in the Armor of Original Sin? Be specific and detailed."

Merlin asked simply and pointedly, as if he knew something, and got to the heart of the matter.

"The armor experience? I went in and passed out."

Lorenzo didn't say much. This was related to Watson, the weird fake Holy Grail. No one knew whether the Purge Agency would really treat him as a guinea pig after learning about this.

"Please think carefully. You are the only one so far who has fallen into a coma but has not lost control. This is an extremely special case."

Merlin said again.

"… "

Lorenzo remained silent.

He was extremely wary of Watson as a false Holy Grail, something that could never be trusted.

Lorenzo was still hesitating whether to reveal the important information about [Gap]. For the first time, Lorenzo felt troubled by this thing.

"Let's change the subject then."

Seeing that Lorenzo remained silent, Merlin did not continue to ask questions, but instead asked Lorenzo from another angle.

"Do you know anything about alchemy?"

"alchemy?"

Lorenzo couldn't understand why this guy mentioned this. If there was any most profound skill in the world, it must be alchemy.

A power that is beyond the reach of mortals, it is said to connect to ghosts and gods.

Seeing Lorenzo's hesitation, Merlin continued.

"Alchemy... Actually, it can be considered the prototype of modern chemistry. When it was born, human productivity was far less powerful than it is today. Just casting an iron sword was a very difficult task, so alchemy was originally considered a metallurgical technology."

Merlin said somewhat mysteriously.

“To understand a substance, to decompose a substance, and to recast it… to sublime cheap metals into precious metals, to ascend from the mundane to the higher.”

"This technology has evolved over time and has become a form of mysticism. Many strange and bizarre things are more or less related to it."

Merlin changed the subject and asked.

"Then do you know why alchemy gradually disappeared from the world?"

"disappear?"

It was as if it had triggered Lorenzo's thinking. Although there had been traces of it for a long time, it was only now becoming clear that the mysterious skill that once dominated was quietly fading away.
