Ember’s Gun

Chapter 357: native land

The hazy drizzle poured down quietly, as if endless. It hit the moss-covered stone bricks, bringing a slight coolness with the breeze.

This is a beautiful coastal town, which seems to have been forgotten by the whole world. The long glorious war and the steam engine that revolutionized the world have not been able to change this town. It still maintains the appearance of a hundred years ago, as if time has stopped on it.

Sig leaned on the step stone beside the door, his eyes falling on the end of the bluestone steps.

As the drizzle fell, it seemed as if the whole town had fallen into a deep sleep. There were no pedestrians on the streets, all the doors were closed, and no lights were on.

The whole town was shrouded in silence. Apart from the sound of raindrops falling, there was nothing else.

Sigben would have felt an indescribable sense of loneliness, but at the moment he didn't care about that. Although he was alone, he couldn't help but smile when he looked at this familiar town.

Ah... the small town hidden deep in his memory, the small town he had completely forgotten.

Sig never imagined that one day he would really return to this homeland that he could never go back to. It was like a beautiful dream and he didn't want to wake up.

Looking up, the sky was gray, but compared to the doomsday-like rainy season in Jiudunling, the rain here was much gentler, like a cold hand, caressing him softly.

He stood up slowly and looked towards the end of the sky and the earth. The black sea was surging and roaring. The strong wind created waves several meters high, which hit the black rocks and broke into thousands of bubbles.

Sigg listened to the sound of rain and continued walking forward. Everything in the town was the same as he remembered, except that now all the doors were closed and there was no light behind the windows.

It seemed that everyone was dead, or maybe they were all in a coma, but Sig couldn't think about that.

Faint sounds were heard in the wind and rain, including men's roars, monsters' wails, and sounds similar to explosions.

Sig looked around, trying to find the source of the sound, but all he could see was the familiar town. But as he blinked, a figure suddenly appeared in the rain before him.

"Ah... Joey!"

On the other side of the rain curtain, Sig saw Joey standing quietly in the rain. After a brief moment of daze, he ran over excitedly.

It was such a happy day. After chasing for so long, Sig finally returned to his hometown. He wanted to share this joy with Joey, but for a moment Sig could not see Joey's face clearly. It was gloomy and dark, and no light could illuminate it.

A completely different scene was reflected in the puddles beneath his feet. Joey swung his folding knife, killing demons one after another. However, in the midst of the fierce fight, another demon staggered towards him.

"Joey?"

Sig continued to shout, and Joey said nothing. He just followed Sig and sat down on a bench nearby. The two of them sat in the drizzling rain.

"I don't want to go back, Joey."

After a long silence, Sig broke the peace. His expression was a little complicated, and he seemed to not know how to say it.
