Inside the magnificent church, amidst the flickering candlelight, two figures faced each other, like wild beasts meeting on a narrow road, neither willing to retreat.
Watson had thought about everything she might encounter here, but it was obvious that the current changes had completely disrupted her thinking.
The new Pope stood defenselessly in front of him. He stretched his head slightly and his voice was full of provocation.
"Who are you?"
Watson asked, one of the many mysteries surrounding the man before him.
No one had ever thought that this sacred crown would eventually fall into the hands of such a mysterious person. There was no information about the new Pope, and it was impossible to trace his past. He just appeared out of thin air in the history of the Evangelical Church.
"Me? Seni Lothair, the new Pope of the Evangelical Church. What about you?"
Seeing that Watson had no intention of fighting, the new Pope straightened up and picked up the fallen spiked sword.
"I mean, who is behind your mask
Watson asked in a deep voice.
The distance between the two was very short, and Watson could completely try to [invade] the New Pope, but she was a little hesitant. She didn't dare to do so. Previous intelligence showed that the New Pope had fought with the Silent One more than once, and he survived every time.
Maybe... maybe this guy is even more terrifying than Lawrence. Watson is not sure how much he knows about Power Gabriel. She needs to be doubly vigilant, at least not attack rashly now.
"Under the mask?"
The new Pope touched his cold mask, and then laughed.
"That's another question, guest."
He swung the spiked sword, dancing a few beautiful sword flowers, and then made way. The dark gate to heaven had already been opened, like a wild beast with its fangs bared, waiting for people to step in.
"But before I answer this question, let me go talk somewhere else first. After all, this place is so sacred, and it is somewhat disrespectful to talk about those sinful things here."
The new Pope said this and made a "please" gesture.
Watson did not hesitate too much. She was fully prepared when she arrived here. Too many people had already made sacrifices for that lofty ideal.
She stepped into the darkness, followed by the new Pope.
A slight friction sound was heard in the darkness, and the stale air was mixed with dust. Watson could feel himself being swallowed by the darkness bit by bit, falling into the endless abyss.
She and the new Pope each occupied a corner. Watson's voice rang out in the silence, and she asked again.
"Who are you under the mask?"
"Hold on… "
The voice of the new Pope came from the other side of the darkness. He actually took off his mask, held a cigarette in his mouth, and a faint light appeared in the darkness.
It was a very strange feeling, as if from the beginning the new Pope did not regard Watson as an enemy, or as if he did not think Watson would attack him.
Just like that, he smoked leisurely. The narrow space was filled with the smell of smoke, and Watson smelled something different.
"Don't worry, there's nothing wrong with this cigarette, it just has some... numbing effects. I usually use this stuff to relieve pain, but the effect will fade if I smoke too much, so I only light one at this time."
