This is a forgotten story.
Lorenzo found himself in a desolate wilderness. Wildfires were burning feebly. The wind carried dust across the old spiked sword. The corpses had long since rotted away. Even the setting sun in the sky looked a dying blood red.
Not sure if it was an illusion or some other factor disturbing him, Lorenzo heard a terrible roar in his ears. The metal rubbed against each other, and the flesh was torn inch by inch, making a fine shattering sound.
The demon hunters fought in the wilderness. They were powerful, and their secret blood kept burning, releasing the forbidden beasts from the cage in their hearts.
They transformed into monsters, but even so, they were still unable to resist the most primitive malice and meanness.
Blood gushed out, finally gathering into a stream, soaking the dry earth...
"Lorenzo de' Medici was too naive. He naively thought that everyone was looking forward to the arrival of the golden age, but he didn't know that everyone was more concerned about the power and interests at the moment... The funniest thing is that I was as naive as he was at that time."
Lawrence took a deep breath. Perhaps it was because he hadn't recalled these things for too long, and his memory became fuzzy.
“Ideals are still too naive. Only those things that are practical, visible and tangible are worth people going crazy for.”
"What happened here?"
Lorenzo asked in a low voice. Perhaps because of the [gap], his emotions began to be infected by Lawrence. A huge despair and anger filled his heart. For a moment, he could not even hold the sword and lost the strength to fight with Lawrence.
"I can't quite remember how long ago it was. Anyway, it was a long time ago when Lorenzo de' Medici became more and more powerful. He secretly controlled the Pope and supported me to become the Archbishop and a member of the Cardinals.
The entire evangelical church was completely under his control. Theocracy and power were on his side. We all thought that everything would develop in the best direction. Nothing could stop us. We could do whatever we wanted and achieve whatever we wanted.
The golden age is just around the corner.”
Lawrence found a raised spot on the wilderness and sat down, with his sword across his thigh, enjoying the rare peace and quiet as if he had a break from fighting.
Lorenzo's eyes became solemn. It was difficult for him to describe the complexity of his current mood. For a moment, the surging desire for revenge actually weakened. Lorenzo just wanted to know what happened at that time.
"That was a wonderful time, but unfortunately, we still didn't recognize the true nature of humanity... I think you know what happened next, right? The cardinals began to rebel, and they gathered their strength in secret. The Gospel Church seemed strong on the surface, but in fact, there were undercurrents underneath."
Lawrence murmured as he looked out at the wilderness.
"That's what happened during that time, when Lorenzo de' Medici finally gave in, and he compromised, and he realized that he was too old, and if he were a few decades younger, he would have killed all those who opposed him, risking a schism in the church.
But he is too old, his body is no longer strong, and even his consciousness has become cloudy. He may be able to save himself, but this does not include me. "
