Ember’s Gun

Chapter 460: end

The light all over the sky stretched the shadows into extremely long and thin pieces, like a sharp knife, cutting everything into countless pieces. They were scattered all over the ground and were casually stepped on by Gloria.

She rubbed her eyes, trying her best to avoid showing her vulnerable side. Her steps were light and silent, and she easily avoided the patrolling guards like a gust of wind that could not be caught.

"Are you leaving?"

A voice rang out, breaking the silence. Gloria turned around and saw a familiar figure looking at her not far away. He was holding a bag in his hand, with a tired and sad look on his face.

She thought that few people would be able to detect her concealment, but it was obvious that this was of no use to this guy. He might have noticed her presence from dozens of meters away.

"Mr. Holmes."

Gloria stopped and said to him with a smile that she didn't expect to meet Lorenzo again in the end. Gloria thought she would never see him again.

"Yeah, it's time for me to leave too." Gloria responded to Lorenzo.

"So where are you going?"

Lorenzo asked, and as he spoke he came over and stood beside Gloria. They leaned against the railing, and behind the steps below was a warm garden, with the wind blowing and bringing sweet fragrance.

"I don't know. I don't know where I should go. I can't just stop, right?"

"Is that so? But it would be too cruel to leave without saying a word."

Lorenzo said this while looking at the building nearby. He remembered that behind a certain window was Red Falcon's room.

"I said goodbye properly. I can still do that."

Gloria seemed to know what Lorenzo was thinking. She also looked in that direction and answered with a smile.

The conversation between the two fell into a brief silence, after which Lorenzo asked tentatively.

"Actually, you can stay. Falcon seems to like you quite a bit."

"What about Ivar?"

Gloria asked directly, she looked at Lorenzo, and her smile slowly turned into helplessness.

"Many things are like this. Even though it is an optimal solution, even though you and others would not care, I can't. I can't not care. These things are like alarm bells that keep ringing in my ears.

Sometimes I see my hands covered in blood, and the dead digging the earth, crawling out of the burning hell, dragging me, taking me into the darkness.

There was a hint of fear in Gloria's voice. She wanted to stay, but she couldn't.

"So... what do you think? Are you afraid of the judgment of the dead? Are you looking for an excuse to exonerate yourself? Or is it something else?"

Lorenzo's tone changed slightly, and he was like a mentor considering his apprentice.

"How is that possible? If you do something wrong you must be punished, no matter if there are gods in this world or not," Gloria said as she lowered her head. "I still can't forgive myself. I want to find a way to redeem myself. Maybe everything will be fine after this. Regardless of whether I can be redeemed or not, at least I tried."
