From the green riverside of Florence, to the quiet Basilica di San Gimignano, to the blazing night of the Holy Advent, the rustling of the old church...
Lorenzo moved forward in the narrow darkness, towards the faint blue light, and stepped into the world behind the door.
The darkness brought him a brief moment of peace. In that moment of tranquility, he suddenly recalled the journey along the way. His mood was very calm, without the slightest fluctuation. All the words had been said, and the blood that should have been shed had been all over the ground. Now Lorenzo just had to accept it all.
Standing in the dusty ruins, Lorenzo stared at the blue light.
Behind the door was an extremely huge columnar space, like an extremely huge deep well, which reminded Lorenzo of the Well of Sublimation and the workshop. Perhaps it was accidental that these buildings were all shaped like wells.
Lorenzo remembered that Merlin had vaguely mentioned this. It was related to the so-called "sublimation", a leap from humbleness to sublimity. It could be regarded as a change in "height". Coupled with the limitations of the wellhead, they all liked to use a "well" structure for construction.
"From the humble to the sublime, step out of the well and see the bigger world..."
Lorenzo whispered.
But in this quiet space, his voice was so clear and loud that Lorenzo felt uneasy the moment he finished speaking, fearing that his voice would disturb the ghosts who were in long sleep.
Nothing happened, and everything remained absolutely peaceful, just like the endless years that had passed.
A platform extending from under the feet reached the center of the columnar space. Above it, countless cables and machines descended from the darkness on the dome, supporting a huge disk at the core.
Lorenzo stepped forward and could see that there seemed to be something on the walls surrounding the well. The walls were not smooth, and if he looked carefully, he could see protrusions one after another, which looked like some kind of translucent glass. They were oval in shape and densely arranged on the walls of the well, extending to the upper and lower ends.
It is not quite clear what these are. After all, everything here is beyond Lorenzo's cognition. He can only rely on simple common sense to judge the functions of some things.
Most of the translucent ovals have been broken, and water stains can be seen underneath, as if there had been accumulation of water, and as the glass broke, the liquid inside also poured out.
These things looked like some kind of containers, and with the accumulated fluid, they looked a bit like the culture chambers seen in the Montenegrin Hospital. Maybe something was being nurtured here before, but now it was gone, or maybe it was dead.
Lorenzo looked away and observed carefully. He found that there were indicator lights underneath these containers, but most of them were completely extinguished. Only a few were still running, but they were also emitting a dim red light.
Just like pairs of tired and scarlet eyes, staring at this place quietly.
"Lorenzo..."
The plague doctor looked around and said at a loss.
“These things should all be damaged.”
Lorenzo looked at the dim red lights and spoke based on his common sense and understanding.
