Ember’s Gun

Chapter 730: Nightmare after nightmare

As night fell, the world fell into endless darkness. It was not a beautiful night. The thick cumulus clouds blocked all the starlight. The boy looked out the window and could only see the deep darkness. The sky and the earth were connected together, blurring the boundaries.

It seemed as if at some point, the cabin had been separated from the real world and dragged into a void and chaotic space.

Retracting his gaze, the boy did not pay too much attention to the outside world. No matter how dark and cold it was outside, this small house was still warm and brightly lit.

Holmes moved the dining table over and placed it next to the lower bunk bed. The boy and Watson sat together. Holmes then moved two chairs, placed one facing the door, and sat on the other.

The boy couldn't help drooling as the aroma wafted towards him. Holmes's cooking skills were very good. To the boy, it was like magic. Those dirty wild vegetables would always turn into delicious dishes in his hands.

Because there were guests coming, an extra set of bowls and chopsticks was added to the table, but this guy seemed to be late, so everyone could only endure hunger and wait for his arrival.

"The fence is almost done. If we cut some more trees in the next few days, it should be enough," Holmes told the family about their recent situation to kill time. "I got some seeds and can grow some vegetables."

"You'd better cut down some more trees. Winter is coming and the forest will be very cold," Watson suggested. "I have saved a small sum of money. Do you think I need to buy anything?"

"Well, there shouldn't be much need for money at the moment. Basic food, clothing, housing and transportation are guaranteed."

Holmos thought about it seriously. Since he settled down, he realized that they could not continue to wander the streets and live a homeless life. They needed to get on the right track and live an upright life.

"New life..."

Holmes sighed, his eyes softening.

Not long ago, he was still hanging out in the streets of Florence, fighting with others and getting bloody. In the blink of an eye, he had a place that could be called home. Although it was small, at least it could shelter him from the wind and rain.

"I used to think that this kind of life was very far away from me, but I didn't expect it to become so close and easy to touch."

Listening to Holmes' words, the boy didn't feel much. To him, nothing had changed. He was still with his friends, and that was enough.

"By the way, have you thought about what to do next?"

Holmes looked at the boy and suddenly asked him.

"Do... what?" The boy was a little confused.

"It's just work and stuff. People need to be busy. If they are idle, they will become useless. Besides, we don't support idle people here."

Holmes explained it to him.

"I am now a qualified hunter. I can catch some prey every day. I also have some part-time jobs and can earn some money."

Pointing to the hunting rifle hanging on the wall, that's how the rabbit meat on today's table came from.

Hearing this, Watson also said to the boy next to him.

"Like Holmes, I found some part-time jobs in the city. Although I didn't earn much, it was enough to make a living."
