"That was such a despairing moment. You finally grew up, but you never raised your sails again."
Another bolt of thunder split the night sky. Eve saw other people out of the corner of her eye. The crew led by Wall were busy on the ship, silently dealing with the storm.
"I have lived in a daze for a long time. Although I am old, I still haven't forgotten my childhood yearnings. But that is just a yearning. It is an old thing eliminated by the times and has no place in the new era."
"I didn't marry or have any children. I used all my savings to buy the Silverfish, and I gathered a group of children who also yearned for the pirate era to become my crew."
With an emotion that was unclear whether it was remembrance or grief, the captain slowly turned around, his tired body wet and covered with fish-scale-like scales under his clothes.
"Child, do you know the feeling of being rushed to the extreme when you suddenly see the light after living in darkness for a long time? There is no reason at all. As long as you can leave this darkness, it doesn't matter even if there are more terrible things behind the light."
“That’s how I was.”
Eve moved closer to the edge of the ship, trying to reduce her blind spot. She was not distracted by the captain's words.
"What do you want to say?"
"It's just a poor man's confession. Someone has to know all this, right?"
The turbid eyes are like rolling dark clouds, within which surges the light called dreams.
"I have always hoped that someone would know this, so that my death, our death would have value. But no matter how I called out, no one responded until you came."
The strange call actually came from the man in front of him. He had been calling Eve since the Glory was forced to stop.
Eve didn’t know whether she was terrified or honored, she never thought that one day she would become a special case.
"So you called me here just to listen to your nagging?"
"Maybe. People are like this. They are born alone but don't want to die alone. They even find a bunch of insignificant people at their funerals to show that they are not alone."
Holding the steering wheel tightly, the captain spoke slowly, this was the beginning of all the tragedy.
"It all started a few months ago when a man called the mentor came to me and said he could give me everything I hoped for, such as countless wealth, a high position, and an era that had been forgotten by the world."
"He said he would fulfill each of our dreams if we just helped him salvage something."
“You may not understand that feeling. You have given up hope on something, but one day in the future, someone tells you that you still have hope. In the face of that huge shock, everyone will lose their minds, and that is the beginning of tragedy.”
The wind and rain were silent, and it seemed as if the whole world was listening to his words. He was the narrator of the story, and everything he did was just to avoid being forgotten, no matter whether the story was good or bad.
“You must have come here to investigate this matter. To be honest, when I first saw those monsters, I realized how complicated the world is. That guy called the mentor asked us to take something we shouldn’t have taken, but there was no turning back.
