Enduring the Winter

Chapter 12

After Xu Hui was defined as a fool by Bai Lu, half a minute passed.

In the end, he lowered his head as if discouraged, hummed twice, and muttered: "Stupid, I'm stupid..."

Bai Lu could smell the alcohol, but he was still dazed.

Xu Hui backed away, turned around, and lay down.

He is tall, with long hands and long feet, and he has to curl up a little to fit into the sofa.

The person was lying sideways, facing the sofa, looking drowsy.

Bai Lu held the chopsticks, looked at him, and asked, "Xu Hui, are you tired?"

Xu Hui didn't move. Bai Lu sat for a while and found that he was still motionless. She stood up slowly, came to his side, bent down and asked, "Xu Hui, are you tired?"

The sofa was black, and Xu Hui's face looked a little pale between the sofas.

Bai Lu pursed her lips and whispered, "Then I'll go back first..."

Said, really turned around.

As soon as she took a step, her wrist was pulled, and Bai Lu was pulled back.

"Hey..." Bai Lu was afraid of being unstable, so she subconsciously wanted to support the things around her, but there was a sashimi boat in front of her, and the chopsticks hadn't been moved yet, so Bai Lu really didn't want to press her hands on it.

After hesitating for a second, Bai Lu tripped and fell on the edge of the sofa.

Sitting on the ground, Bai Lu wrinkled her face together.

"Xu Hui!" She covered her butt with one hand, broke away from Xu Hui's hand with the other, and slapped him on the shoulder.

"Yo, I know what to do." Xu Hui lazily turned around, and Bai Lu suddenly found that they were very close.

Bai Lu stepped back, Xu Hui grabbed her by the shoulder and pulled her over without much effort.

"Hiding for what?" With steam in his mouth, Xu Hui pressed his fingers hard, and when he sensed something, he squeezed back and forth. "Shoulders are so thin..." I whispered to myself, "Are you made of paper?"

Bai Lu took off his hand, stood up from the ground, returned to the sofa next to her and sat down.

Like an aquatic animal, Xu Hui turned over on the sofa, leaning on the cushion and looking at her.

Compared with Bai Lu, Xu Hui's posture is relaxed, no matter whether he looks at it or breathes, he can do it with ease.

Holding the chopsticks, Bai Lu said a little stiffly, "Will you eat or not? I'm leaving."

Xu Hui sighed helplessly, slowly sat up from the sofa, and picked up a pair of chopsticks.

"Are you in a hurry to leave?"

Bai Lu said, "I still have something to do tonight."

Xu Hui took a piece of sashimi and put it in his mouth, "You are always busy."

Bai Lu: "Help the family with things."

"What do parents do?"

"It's very common... I usually work part-time when I have time."

Xu Hui asked naturally: "Lack of money?"

Bai Lu shook her head without thinking, and Xu Hui said, "I don't need money to get a job."

Bai Lu looked at him, Xu Hui put down his chopsticks and met his eyes, as if waiting for her to say something.

Bai Lu's eyes were peaceful, and she spoke calmly without any superfluous expression on her face. "I have a younger sister who was injured a few days ago and underwent an operation."

Xu Hui snorted, "Is she sick? You help her save money?"

Bai Lu lowered her head and said softly, "I'm sick."

"What do you mean?"

Bai Lu picked up a piece of sushi and put it in her mouth.

Xu Hui stared at her face, and said with a little disgust for a while: "Speak slowly, and eat slowly."

Bai Lu swallowed the last bite of sushi and said, "I'm leaving."

Xu Hui frowned, looked at the time, "What time is it?"

"It's past nine o'clock."

Xu Hui pouted, "Forget it, let's go."

Bai Lu: "Thank you for inviting me to eat."

Xu Hui shrugged, not paying much attention.

Xu Hui followed Bai Lu to the door, watched her put on her shoes, lowered his head and asked, "Will you see me?"

"No need to."

Before Bai Lu left, she took a look at Xu Hui, who was lazily leaning against the door with arms folded. Bai Lu had a faint feeling that he wanted to ask something, but none of them said anything in the end.

On the way back to school, Bai Lu thought, he should remember.

I remember that day when I drank too much in the middle of the night, I called her and told her the bits and pieces, and cried myself to sleep at the end.

Although none of them mentioned it.

Bai Lu felt that since that meal, the relationship between her and Xu Hui had reached another stage.

Xu Hui seldom looks for her anymore, and she no longer designs complicated patterns every week.

It's as if the initial novelty wears off and they all start to fade.

But still not disconnected.

Occasionally at night, when Bai Lu was doing exercises, or returning to the dormitory and lying on the bed after taking a shower, Xu Hui would send a few text messages.

Ask her what she is doing, whether she is busy working part-time.

Text messages are always chatting and chatting without beginning and end.

In this way, the time flashed to September.

School has officially started.

"Looking at the new students, I always feel old." Candidates in the third year of senior high school sighed with emotion.

It's getting hotter too.

Few people went out during the physical education class in the afternoon. Everyone would rather stay in the room in a daze than go out to bask in the sun.

A few girls went to the cafeteria to buy a cold drink, and went back to the class to eat, laughing and chatting while eating.

Their voices are very low, because there are many sleeping classmates in the room.

Bai Lu is one of them.

After finishing everything last night, it was already midnight, and Bai Lu was surprisingly tired today.

It was uncomfortable to lie on the table, Bai Lu couldn't sleep well, and seemed to hear someone talking around her in a dim way.

"Go... let's talk..."

"Why are you so cowardly at this point?"

"..."

"If you don't say anything else, you're leaving..."

"...don't pull me!"

"Hey… "

Bai Lu slowly opened her eyes, just in time to see Wu Hanwen and Li Siyi who were chattering beside her.

The sound stopped abruptly, and the two began to cough, their eyes misty.

Wu Hanwen glared at Li Siyi invisibly, but Li Siyi pretended not to see him, and pulled Wu Hanwen towards Bai Lu, then lowered his head and started reading.

Bai Lu looked at Wu Hanwen, "Do you have something to tell me?"

Wu Hanwen was so hot that his forehead was sweating.

When he was speechless, Bai Lu was thinking chaotically, maybe all children who have studied well have big foreheads, wide and bright.

As soon as Wu Hanwen calmed down, he noticed that Bai Lu was staring at his forehead, subconsciously trying to block his high hairline.

"This, this..."

Bai Lu looked into his eyes.

"What's wrong?"

"It's okay..." Wu Hanwen put down his hands, turned around, and looked at the test paper on the desk.

Bai Lu thought for a while and said softly, "Today is the 6th, so go to the competition tomorrow."

Wu Hanwen's shoulders shook, and he turned his head, "Do you remember?"

Bai Lu nodded, but the sleepiness was not completely over, so she couldn't help yawning.

"Come on."

Wu Hanwen smiled, and Bai Lu asked again, "Where are you competing?"

"I have already visited the unified examination room in the whole province."

Bai Lu hummed, "Tsinghua University and Peking University are waving to you."

Wu Hanwen: "Is it malicious to put pressure on me at this time?"

Bai Lu: "You shouldn't have distracting thoughts before the exam."

Wu Hanwen scratched his head, "That..." He played with the test paper with his fingers, and made small papers one by one. "Well, tonight..."

Bai Lu waited for him to finish speaking.

"that… "

Li Siyi couldn't take it anymore and slapped the table.

"The school committee invites you to dinner tonight! The big battle is imminent, so let me help you practice it at the same table, okay?"

Wu Hanwen was stunned.

Li Siyi stared at Bai Lu with his small eyes raised up.

"Okay, I'm an adult, let's have a good time!"

Wu Hanwen was furious: "What are you messing with! Are you—"

"Yes." Bai Lu who was beside her said.

Only then did Li Siyi turn his gaze to Wu Hanwen, and raised his eyebrows triumphantly.

Bai Lu said, "I'll treat you to what you want to eat. You told me so many questions before, and I didn't thank you properly."

Wu Hanwen said generously: "Students should help each other. You don't need to treat guests. Let's have a meal in the cafeteria. The main thing is to cheer up."

Bai Lu nodded, then thought of something, and said, "But maybe you have to wait for me, I'm going to deliver something after school."

Wu Hanwen asked, "What for?"

"Someone has a birthday today, I'll give you a birthday present."

"Who is it?"

Bai Lu smiled, "You don't know."

Wu Hanwen nodded suddenly, "...OK, then I'll wait for you in the cafeteria after school."

On September 6th, someone had a birthday.

Bai Lu came to Xu Hui's house with her schoolbag on her back after school, but she didn't knock on the door because she knew there was no one inside.

Xu Hui wanted to have a party with his friends, and he had invited her before, but Bai Lu said that he had something to do in the evening and didn't have time.

She still remembers his cold tone when he cut off the phone.

In the schoolbag were the things she had prepared for the whole night. She took them out and inserted them gently in the crack of the door. Bai Lu turned and left.

Xu Hui was indeed outside. Today was a treat for friends. Before three o'clock in the afternoon, more than a dozen people skipped school together and booked a private KTV room. They were so crazy.

As the birthday star, Xu Hui was so drunk that he collapsed on the sofa and fell asleep.

At night, Xu Hui opened his eyes.

Xiaoye was lying on top of him, shouting and watching the boys playing cards, but didn't notice that Xu Hui woke up.

He sat up before Xiaoye realized it.

"Ahui, you're awake!" The voice in the room was too loud, and Xiaoye's loud voice made Xu Hui's head hurt even more.

"Do you want something to eat!?"

Xu Hui shook his head, wanted to smoke a cigarette, touched the table, and was touched on the arm.

Turning around, it was Sun Yuhe, holding a pack of cigarettes in his hand.

"Go out and smoke?"

Xu Hui nodded.

Coming out of the private room, Xu Hui felt alive again.

"The room is too stuffy." Sun Yuhe handed Xu Hui a cigarette and said.

Xu Hui lit his cigarette, took a puff, and said, "What time is it?" When he spoke, his voice was so hoarse that he couldn't recognize it.

"It's early, it's only past nine o'clock."

Xu Hui rubbed his temples, his shoulders were sore and swollen.

"Oh, that's right." Sun Yuhe flicked the cigarette ash on the ground, "Didn't you say you knew a natural girl before, why didn't you call me?"

"Hmph." Xu Hui thought of something, sneered coldly, and shook his head accordingly.

"What's wrong?"

"nothing."

After smoking a cigarette, Xu Hui took out his wallet from his back pocket and took out a card. Seeing it, Sun Yuhe said flatly, "Don't tell me, you are the birthday star today, everyone treats you to dinner."

Xu Hui gave the card to Sun Yuhe, "Let me take it."

Sun Yuhe looked at Xu Hui quietly, sighed for a while, took the card, "All right."

"I'm leaving now, you guys play."

Sun Yuhe: "Don't say hello?"

"No."

After speaking, Xu Hui turned and walked out. Sun Yuhe stood where he was, watching his back as he went away.

Xu Hui didn't even have the bare minimum of a backpack, and everywhere he went he always had a wallet, a T-shirt, and jeans.

He walks with a slight hunchback, but he is tall and doesn't show much. He only looks at him occasionally, which will give people the illusion of being alone.
