Chapter 34: The Book of Truth

Maka took a look inside and found that most of the space in this secret room, which was not too big, had been taken up by bookshelves.

When you lower your head, you can see that there are two metal slide rails on the floor paved with smooth stone slabs - the bookshelf can slide left and right on them.

Because of this, there is only a gap between these bookshelves for one person to pass, and other places are closely together. If someone needs to rummage through another bookshelf, they can push the bookshelf to adjust the gap to where they want it.

"Why don't you put a traceless stretching spell here?" Maka asked doubtfully.

It is indeed unbelievable to say that this is Rowena Ravenclaw's secret room. But here, there is no trace of magic - not even a stretching spell is used to expand the space, but every inch of space here is used in a physical way, making the entire secret room seem quite cramped.

"Didn't I just say it! Within the scope of Hogwarts, the space has been reinforced!" The Bronze Eagle said loudly, "'Reinforced', understand? All magic related to space cannot be used unless it is If it is preset at Hogwarts before reinforcement, nothing else will take effect."

"In other words," Maka said, looking at this place thoughtfully, "this place was opened up later?"

The bronze eagle blinked, flew to the top edge of the bookshelf and stood there, staring at Maka who was flipping through the books for a long time.

"It smells like that old guy Salazar, who likes to talk to others about nothing." It muttered softly.

After a while, seeing that Maka was already standing there, fascinated by the book, it opened its mouth and said, "Don't read those books now. You will have plenty of time to come here to read them later."

"Now, come to the desk first." The bronze eagle soared into the sky, flapped its wings and landed on a small scaffolding on the desk.

After hearing this, Maka reluctantly closed the book, but she held it in her hand and didn't want to put it back.

"Sit down, sit down, no one has sat here for a long time." Xiaoying stretched out his wings and said, "Open the middle drawer, there is a box inside, take it out."

There was nothing in the drawer except an old wooden box with bronze corners.

"What's inside?" Maka asked curiously, but did not open it easily.

"Don't worry! It's just a piece of paper. Rowena calls it the 'Scroll of Truth'." Kitty Eagle said, "But no one knows whether it is called that."

Maka opened the box carefully and found that there was indeed only a paper roll tied with a ribbon, and a piece of delicate blue velvet underneath.

Just when he was about to pick it up and see what the secret was, Xiaoying interrupted him.

"Now you have the right to make a choice," it said, "open it, do your best to read it, and help your school solve a trouble left over from the past; or, close the box and leave it alone. Please, let it sit and wait for the next candidate to continue this selection.”

Maka couldn't help but be stunned for a moment, he frowned and asked: "What are the benefits to me? Or, what are the disadvantages?"

"If I choose the latter, can I still read the books here?"

It can be seen that those books have an extraordinary appeal to Maca. Just now, he had just glanced at one of them and realized how precious these books really were.

"Of course you can read the book. No matter which one you choose, or even if you don't make a choice, you can come here at any time. But you only have this chance to choose, and you have to understand this." Xiaoying replied in a calm tone road.

After hearing this, Maka immediately turned the lid back, but just when the wooden box was about to be closed again, he stopped what he was doing.

He remembered what Xiaoying had just said: Rowena called it the "Scroll of Truth."

This means that, for Rowena Ravenclaw, what is recorded in this scroll is what can be called "truth".

"I'm afraid, all the books here combined are not as important as this thin piece of paper in the box." He couldn't help but think.

"If there is any trouble at Hogwarts, can you tell me first?" Maka hesitated.

The little eagle shook his head quite humanely and said, "I don't know about this. Maybe that old hat will know! Its owner is a quick talker, and he might let something slip at some point."

It paused and then said in a serious tone: "But I want to remind you that Rowena has never told me the answer to this question. Are you sure you want to know?"

After hearing this, Maka frowned even more tightly.

To be honest, no one with any brains would choose to pick it up, but Maka could never restrain her curiosity and desire for knowledge. He knew that since receiving the Hogwarts admission notice, he had been deeply immersed in the exploration of magical knowledge and could not extricate himself.

Maka is originally a person who really likes to explore this kind of mysterious knowledge. It was really hard for him to refuse the "Scroll of Truth" that was at his fingertips, even though he already knew that there might be a big trouble waiting for him later.

Sure enough, after hesitating for a long time, he opened the lid again and put his hand in...

The next morning, the sun just emerged, shining its first rays of morning light on Hogwarts Castle. Many students were still lingering in their sleep, but Maka had already gotten up early.

In other words, he didn't sleep much at all last night.

When he was returned to the door of the Ravenclaw common room, the bronze eagle that fell back on the door knocker opened the door for him, and then he was stared at coldly by Helena for a long time.

He said many kind words and took great pains to calm down the ill-tempered ghost lady. After that, he talked with her a lot with a smile on his face, and then dragged his tired body back to the Hufflepuff dormitory.

"The next test will be when you gain something from your research on the 'Scroll of Truth'." These were the last words of the Bronze Eagle.

When he was lying in bed thinking about how long he could sleep, he found that he couldn't sleep at all, and his mind was filled with those strange words he saw on the "Scroll of Truth".

Maka has read many books about ancient magic texts before, but she has never seen words like that.

The circles of strokes look a bit like cursive calligraphy, but each character is clearly distinguished. At first glance, it seems that it was twisted out by children at will, but after careful comparison, you can find that there are strict rules and it is obviously a special kind. Text.

What makes Maka even more amazing is that every character in it really contains magic.

As he looks, the characters will diffuse fluctuations of magic power and convey various completely different messages to him. Although he didn't quite understand what that kind of information was expressing, it didn't stop him from being fascinated by it.

And the most critical thing is: when Maka tried to pick up the quill pen to copy, he found that although what he wrote looked similar, it was just an ordinary character - he could not feel any feeling in it.

He lay in bed and thought for a long time until dawn, but he didn't come up with anything valuable.

The next few weeks passed fairly peacefully.

After his last trip to Ravenclaw's Chamber of Secrets, his days had become even busier. Although Hermione still often came to discuss a few issues with him about studying, the rest of her time was occupied by various researches.

"Should I apply for a time-turner?"

One day, Maka was sitting on the reading table in the library, looking at the growing mountain of books in front of her, and couldn't help but think so. But in the blink of an eye, he was immediately denied by himself.

"I always feel that there will be more things to study, so I might as well forget it..."

Maka shook off the curiosity about the time turner in her mind, stretched and regained her energy. She was about to continue immersing herself in the research, but she didn't expect a voice to come from behind.

"Hagrid! What are you doing in the library?"

Maka turned around and immediately saw Hagrid's huge figure.

Hagrid walked towards Harry and the others who were not far away, hiding something behind him. He looked out of place in his moleskin coat.

Maka saw it at a glance. It was a book about dragons.

"Dragon?" Maka blinked a few times, her expression slightly confused.

He watched Hagrid lower his voice, whisper to Harry and the others, and then leave. Then, after a few words between them, Hermione went to where Hagrid had just turned and brought back several books.

"Hagrid always wanted a dragon. He told me that when I first met him." Maka heard Harry say this.

"But it's illegal," Ron said. "At the wizarding convention in 1709, a bill banning raising dragons was officially passed. Everyone knows this. If we raise dragons in the back garden, it will be difficult not to do so. Get Muggles to notice us."

As Ron was talking, he suddenly paused again.

"Besides, it's difficult to tame them, which is very dangerous. You should really see the burns on Charlie's body. They were all left by wild dragons in Romania."

"But are there no wild dragons in Britain?" Harry asked curiously.

"Of course there are," said Ron. "There are the common Welsh green dragons and the Hebridean black dragons. I can tell you that the Ministry of Magic has a job of concealing the existence of these wild dragons. Our wizards have to constantly tell those who see them The Muggles of Wild Dragon cast a spell to make them forget all about it."

Hermione leaned her upper body forward as if she wanted to say something, but before she could speak, she turned back.

"Maka, do you want to come with me?" she said. "Hagrid's hut."

Maka thought for a while and realized that it was time for her to take a rest.

"Then let's go take a look! Maybe Hagrid actually brought one over. I think it would be good to have a chance to observe such a powerful creature up close." He smiled and nodded.
