Chapter 37: No more pretending, let’s be frank!

Views:

Elephants are social animals, and their society is matriarchal with families as the unit.

In other words, elephants in the same herd are basically "relatives" belonging to the same family.

Normally, whether it is foraging, resting, or moving habitats, it is commanded by the female elephants with the highest "generation" in the family. Adult male elephants are usually only responsible for patrolling around the elephant herd, protecting the safety of the family, and driving away predators.

This is somewhat similar to the population structure of bees, except that the males in the bee colony are a bit miserable. Emmm... they will die after mating.

An elephant can live up to 70 years. This is considered a very long-lived group in the animal world. Moreover, the largest body size on land also determines that even if they are not at the top of the food chain, no animal will easily provoke them. After all, those long fangs are not just for show. If you are stabbed by them, you will die.

If they had lived in such a leisurely way on the grassland without natural enemies, they would definitely be happy. However, all this has undergone a huge change after the emergence of humans.

In the past, Africans hunted elephants mainly for their meat and hides.

However, due to their size, the meat of elephants is very rough and full of various parasites. Elephants don't care because of their thick skin and flesh. But once humans come into contact with them, there is basically no chance of them being intact.

Therefore, except for the barbaric tribes that cannot afford to eat, ordinary African people will not choose elephant meat as food if they have food.

However, after the 1970s, another organ of the elephant became a new target for humans: ivory.

In addition to the rapid increase in demand for ivory in the international handicraft market, it was also due to the turmoil in the financial market during that period.

At a time when the international financial crisis was sweeping the world, ivory, like gold and diamonds, was regarded as a hard currency with stable value, and was thus sought after and stored by some major Western banks.

As a result, the financial crisis, which has nothing to do with elephants, has brought disaster to elephants all over the world.

By the early 1980s, the annual turnover of ivory in the international market had reached 1.3 million kilograms, of which more than 90% came from Africa.

In just ten years, the purchase price of African ivory has risen from US$13 per kilogram to US$156 per kilogram.

The 12-fold profit brings with it far more than 12-fold madness.

Wild elephants in Africa were becoming extinct at an extremely rapid rate. In those days, groups of elephants killed and lying in pools of blood could be seen everywhere on the grasslands. The bloody ivory was transported away in truckloads. After taking the ivory, people often left the elephants exposed in the wilderness, leaving them to be eaten by hyenas and lions, leaving only piles of bones.

Today, under the operation of the World Wildlife Conservation Organization, endangered elephants have become first-class protected animals in countries around the world. African countries have even issued laws prohibiting the hunting of elephants. Once poachers are caught, their fate is no better than that of the elephants that have been hunted.

People who have not experienced the wars in Africa cannot understand the true meaning of the "armed patrols" of forest rangers.

When Wang Ping was at the WAP headquarters, he once heard a member of Team 1 bragging about how the team leader had led them to catch a group of poachers that were poaching African elephants. Unfortunately, when Team 1 was chasing them, the group had destroyed all the evidence.

Under such circumstances, the leader of the team made a decision that no one expected, but was also expected. He took the poachers to the elephant herd's territory, tied them to a tree, and let the elephants, who had lost three family members, decide the fate of the poachers themselves.

Wang Ping remembered the narrator's expression at the time, which was simply filled with sadness. The poachers were trampled into pulp by the angry elephants on the spot, leaving not even a decent mosaic.

It is true that elephants have gentle personalities, but that doesn't mean they have no temper.

Elephants can remember the scent of a family member for up to ten years, and whenever a family member dies, the herd will mourn for several years.

So when the scent of family members was smelled on the poacher, the outcome was already doomed to be a foregone conclusion.

At this moment, looking at the herd of elephants that were wailing from afar, Wang Ping suddenly felt how fucked up life was.

Gu Lang was completely shocked.

At this moment, Gu Lang was staring at the elephants in the distance with his mouth wide open, not knowing what was going on in his mind. He was holding the dagger in his hand so tightly that the veins in his hand were bulging.

You can see that among the elephants, from time to time, some of them would lower their heads to turn over the bodies of their fallen companions. Their long trunks would sniff at the bodies and drive away the mosquitoes and flies that were flying around the bodies. After doing this five or six times, they would raise their heads and wail incessantly.

The elephants kept moving around, and occasionally a corpse would be revealed among them.

Through the gaps between the huge bodies, Gu Lang and Wang Ping saw two elephants, one large and one small, lying on the ground. The head of the large one was in disarray, with a huge bloody gap where the tusks should have been. One pair of tusks was missing.

Unlike Asian elephants, where female elephants do not show their tusks, African female elephants have tusks that protrude a pair of long incisors, just like male elephants. Originally a weapon to protect themselves and their families, it has now become a death warrant.

The baby elephant, however, fell at the feet of the elephant, with blood holes all over its body and blood all over the ground. Even the nearby grass was red.

Wang Ping had even imagined the scene of last night.

A playful baby elephant strayed away from the herd, and its mother, a sturdy female savanna elephant, came looking for it, but fell into a poacher's trap.

A sniper lying in ambush in the woods shot through the female elephant's head, causing it to fall in a pool of blood.

The frenzied poachers rushed out and violently dismantled the tusks before being discovered by the herd.

When the baby elephant found out that its mother had been killed, it angrily attacked the poachers in an attempt to protect the female elephant, but was eventually shot to death at the female elephant's feet.

"Hold!"

Gu Lang suddenly cursed under his breath.

Wang Ping turned his head and found that this guy had burst into tears without him knowing when.

“Bang!”

Gu Lang suddenly raised his hand and slapped himself, leaving Wang Ping stunned.

Is Gu Laosan’s brain burned out

"I want to do something! You can't stop me this time!" Gu Lang suddenly looked at Wang Ping very seriously, his tone extremely serious.

Then why don’t you tell me what it is first!

Wang Ping tilted his head, with a black question mark on his face. But with this face now, it was quite cute, but there was no sign of doubt at all.

Fortunately, Gu Lang was not just talking to himself, he also told him about his plans.

"I know that your experience with Xiaohua has made you particularly sensitive to cameras. But we can't be the only ones who know about this scene! Although I, Gu Lang, have little influence, there are tens of thousands of viewers in my live broadcast room! I have to let them all know... Everyone has to know..."

Gu Lang had an expression as if he was trying to explain something at first, but as he spoke further, his voice weakened, as if he was mumbling to himself after a period of grief and anger, or a sigh of regret.

Wang Ping became even more confused.

Live broadcast room? And tens of thousands of viewers? You got the wrong script and you're still so crazy, does your director know
