Let Me Meet You

Chapter 37: May I

The moment the last word landed, Sheng Min actually felt a little regretful, even though he tried his best to make his tone sound casual and nonchalant.

Sheng Min always believed that one should be silent most of the time in life. Many things don't need to be said out loud, and the more you say, the more mistakes you make. But today, when facing Li Xuan, he kept breaking this principle, without even noticing it. It seemed that he had to say something more to him, to let him know that someone would stand firmly on his side, so that he could feel at ease.

Even Sheng Min understood that this might not be able to make up for the many times in the past when Li Xuan was not chosen or was forced to be chosen.

"We are friends after all." He added, "Is that okay?"

Li Xuan looked at Sheng Min and shrugged slightly: "I don't know." he said.

Sheng Min was stunned for a moment, and looked a little at a loss. Then he heard Li Xuan ask him casually, "What about your case?"

This was the second time the same thing was mentioned since they met, and although the tone was milder than when they were in the car, the conflict itself had not changed at all.

"I..." Sheng Min's lips moved slightly.

"Shh." Li Xuan didn't let him finish. He raised a finger and leaned forward slightly.

"I don't want to quarrel with you over this kind of thing anymore." He seemed helpless, or perhaps he was annoyed without even noticing it, "So don't rush to talk. You don't actually need to give me any explanation about this matter... But if you think we are friends, you can't always do this."

Sheng Min opened his mouth slightly, and seemed unsure of what to say. Li Xuan did not urge him, but stood up straight and drank a sip of water. After a long time, he finally heard Sheng Min say: "... Let me think about it."

"What are you thinking about?"

Sheng Min curled her lips, glanced at him, and said something irrelevant: "Anyway, don't be angry for now."

Li Xuan looked at him until Sheng Min seemed to be unable to bear his gaze and turned his head slightly, and finally smiled: "I am not patient, so you have to think quickly."

"Hey, why are you all at the front desk? Isn't it crowded? Let's go to the meeting room." Qi Boyuan finally came back with a stack of business cards and two boxes of tea in his hand, and put them into the tea room.

"Did you get it from the law firm?" Sheng Min's head was still tilted to the window when Li Xuan walked out from the front desk first. The space was too narrow, and the back of his hand brushed against Sheng Min's knuckles, breaking apart as soon as they touched.

"I didn't take it. A partner gave it to me. He looked quite young. He said that if the company encounters a lawsuit in the future, I can contact them. It's better not to... Let's go to the meeting room first."

Qi Boyuan was very outgoing and could have a good chat with a stranger who he had only met for less than fifteen minutes. He opened a bottle of water and drank two sips while walking towards the meeting room. "You are so enthusiastic. I talked until my mouth was dry..."

"What did you say?" Li Xuan looked back and saw that Sheng Min had caught up with him as usual, so he continued walking forward.

The meeting room is the first one on the left. Qi Boyuan pushed open the door and said, "He didn't say anything. He just said that business is bad now and those who cause trouble are shameless... Then he gave me a stack of business cards and stuffed tea leaves in my pocket, saying that they are special products from their hometown... I remember buying drip coffee. I'll take two boxes over later... Hello..."

As he was talking, Qi Boyuan's cell phone rang: "Senior, are you here?... Yes, it's the door on the left..."

"He's downstairs. I'll go pick him up." He hung up the phone and pointed to the folder on the conference table to Sheng Min. "His resume is there, and so are several other people's resumes. Li Xuan, take a look first."

After saying this, he left in a hurry.

At first, after hearing Qi Boyuan's description, Sheng Min thought Chu Tianheng would be a tough guy with a bad temper, but when she saw him in person, she found that he was unusually shy. Basically, he answered one question after another, and only when talking about work did he suddenly talk more.

Sheng Min really didn't understand some of their professional terms and industry jargon. But acting was his profession after all, so he pretended to say a few words and then threw the topic to Qi Boyuan without leaving any trace. His words were so smooth that the other two didn't notice it at all. Only Li Xuan was watching him with a mischievous smile, his eyebrows curved outside the mask, and he didn't restrain himself even when Sheng Min glared at him a few times.

"Stop laughing." While Qi Boyuan was going downstairs to see the guests off, Sheng Min asked him, "What do you think of this?"

"You two were having a smooth conversation just now." Li Xuan pulled down his mask and took a breath.

"Don't laugh at me."

"No way." Li Xuan stood up and stretched. "Not bad. I have some impression of what you said just now. It seems that we have worked on a project together. There is no problem with professionalism... As for people, Qi Boyuan will not talk about it now. Let him check it."

Sheng Min hummed and said casually, "The person I just interviewed actually looks a bit like you to me."

Li Xuan was pinching his spine. When he heard that, his movements froze for a moment. He tilted his head and made a subtle clicking sound: "How can it be like that?"

"What...?" Sheng Min looked back at him, "Oh... it's just a feeling."

"What does it feel like?" Li Xuan asked.

"Very smart, very self-disciplined?... How can I explain it clearly?" Sheng Min laughed, "I'm praising you."

Li Xuan snorted softly and did not comment.

"Go get your things first." Sheng Min said, "Qi Boyuan will come up soon. Let's find an excuse to leave. Or do you have other things to deal with here? If not, let's go back."

"Where to go back to?" Li Xuan leaned on the windowsill with his backhand, "Who said I should go back?"

"I said so." Sheng Min collected the scattered documents and resumes on the conference table without looking up. Without hearing Li Xuan's answer, he raised his head and asked him, "Is it okay?"

"Can't."

"Okay." Sheng Min nodded in agreement. "Then I'll ask you tomorrow. Should I call you or come to you directly? That should be fine, right?"

Li Xuan glanced at him with a half-smile, but didn't answer. He pushed himself up and jumped down from the bay window, then turned around and walked out of the meeting room.
