Chapter 138: The Messenger of Death (29)

Garrison changed his tone when he accepted the coffee. Not long ago, his implicit Jǐng report hung in the air between us, but he said nothing. "When you and Ms. Keira left the club, where did you go?"

"Back to her place."

"How long have you been there?"

I will do my best to stick to the truth. "Not long."

"Do you know when you left?"

"No," I said. "I'm not even sure when we will leave the attic."

"Where did you go next?"

"We ate nǎi at Abi's house." Technically speaking, even if the two stations are several hours apart. "But they are cleaning the machine, so I didn't get one."

"When was the last time you saw your assistant Ellie?" he asked.

The mention of her name is enough to make my heart beat faster. "At the club last night"

"Have you talked to her after that?"

"No," I said. I did notice this shift in the conversation. "why?"

"Do you know the whereabouts of Ms. Allie now?"

"Don't you know her whereabouts?" My heart was pounding. "You have followed us for several days."

"Ms. Allie left the nightclub alone. We stopped following her, trying to find you," he said.

My heart feels like a series of 180-degree flip flops on my chest.

"Do you have any reason to suspect that she might have conspired with Eve to kill you?" He pressed.

"No," I asked.

"Did you know that Ellie and Eve are members of the same fitness club?"

I can't breathe.

"I will assume that you disagree," he said, screaming in the newspaper in front of him.

"Stop!" Garrison calmed me down, and several people turned their heads to me. "Stop talking, okay. Why are you asking me these questions about Ellie?"

Bob Kings answered me. "We tried to contact her, but couldn't reach her."

"What do you mean by not being able to contact her?" I frantically took out the contents of my bag and took my phone, and then called Allie twice. She did not answer.

"No, no, no." I called again for the third time.

Garrison watched silently.

I slammed the table with my fist. If Jǐngcha gives up monitoring her in order to find me, if something happens to her, I will never forgive myself. When Bob Kings walked towards me, I pushed him away, far more than a small man like me should be able to move a person of this size. For some reason, I thought of Rachel taking the two men away.

"Why don't you protect her?" I yelled at Garrison. "If you think that someone who wants to kill me will not chase her, then you are an idiot. Nothing can make me run faster."

"Suppose you didn't plan the attack yourself," Bob Kings said.

My body began to tremble. All I can think of is God, please let her be safe. I must tell her that I am sorry. I have to tell her that after she has done so many things for me, after what Eddie has done, she has been comforting me, and when she told me everything will be fine, everything will be fine.

You must calm down. Gabriel appeared behind Garrison, his wings stretched out, and then he covered the quilt. It is not safe to lose control here.

I swallowed it and took a quick breath. I did not expect that I would lose control. I didn't hit the table or pinch people.

Garrison's eyes are wider than before, which means I am at least a little scary. He motioned to Bob Kings, but the officer objected. No matter what I'm doing, Garrison saw it, but Bob Kings didn't. What am i doing? What's wrong with me

Ellie hasn't been hurt yet. Focus on it, Fan Fan.

Ellie was not injured. However. He already said it. Concentrate on strength. Concentrate on strength.

"Where was the last time you saw her?" I asked. I don't remember the last question he asked, so this is the best question I can do.

"I think you know where she is," Bob Kings said. He was very upset to be pushed. At least, they haven't tried to arrest me for assault. "I think you know what happened."

"Yes, because we change agents like to commit suicide." When these words leave my lips, my stomach will twitch. I think I have indeed experienced suicide. Garrison narrowed his eyes. I think it’s better to add a true sentence: "Believe me, if I want to die, I don’t need Eve’s help."

But Perkins refused to shut up. "There was a guy in Oakland who committed suicide fifty-five times. He did it for fun, just for fun."

When I tried to concentrate, there was a choking sound in my throat, but in fact I wanted to explode. "Uh, Bob Kings, do you make sense?"

His fists shook, as if there was nothing better than smashing my face.

Garrison said loudly. "This morning at 8:47. Ms. Allie received a call from an unknown source. At 9 am, she disappeared somewhere near Fourth Avenue."

"It means you don't know who is calling, right? Because this is not a suspicious hell." I put my head in my hands and laughed high. what do I do? How can I find Ellie

Keep breathing, Fan Fan. Gabriel Jǐng said. My skin is itchy.

"Did you know that more than 400 replacement agents have died in the past six months? Last year, more than a thousand people?" Garrison asked.

"This is our job, Agent Garrison." I held my hair in my hands and pulled it away from my temples, hoping to release some pressure.

"Dead, dead, Fan Fan," he said. "And it's not just a replacement for the dead agent. There are several undead who have not disclosed their status. This means that powerful people can find out who is nrd yang, even if they have not reported their status."

If Brinkley hadn’t told me about these attacks, I might wonder why we were dying. This may be a virus depleting the dead, or a newly discovered medical "therapy" that prevents our resurrection. However, Atlanta lingered in my mind. Some people think that necromancers should die like everyone else.

But who is doing this: FBRD, the church, or the army

I lifted my head from my hands. Gabriel looked at me carefully.

"We think these attacks are just the beginning," Garrison said.

Bob Kings raised his hands and turned around. I don't know if this is a jīng heart-planned ball between them, some kind of Jǐng scrutiny code, or whether Perkins is really sick of Garrison's willingness to involve me.

More than a thousand undead and killed.

I wet my lips. "Maybe the military wants us to return to protection and imprisonment, let us become super soldiers, or use us for biochemical warfare or something. If they scare us enough, maybe we will return to their disguised arms."

"That's nonsense," Bob Kings said, disguising himself as a gorilla. "No idiot would believe this kind of shit."

I ignored Bob Kings, and I met Garrison's eyes during a challenge. "And FBRD."

Garrison tilted his head to one side.

"You know why they are suspected," I told him. "Eve is not the only one who wanders around."

This is almost treason. The bureau gave me a license. They dropped out of high school and gave her a high-paying job. I may be unemployed and my heartbeat is insufficient. But I want Garrison to know the relationship between the rogue FBRD agent and Eve. I want him to start looking for the right place.

"Someone like Brinkley," Perkins said, mocking me.

There was a strange look on Garrison's face—doubt, if I didn't know. I bet that Garrison knew something was wrong with FBRD.

"That's enough for now," Garrison said, pushing away from the table.

"There are still a few questions," Bob Kings said. "Then she can leave."

Garrison glanced at me. If I want to end this now, I must speak for myself.

"Look," I said, struggling to focus my eyes on him. I feel dizzy and dizzy. The strange power surge left me and I felt very cold. I trembled: "I need sleep, and maybe a painkiller. So if you have to arrest me, take me to a cell where I can lie down. If not, please let me go home. Anyway, I will. Can't talk about it anymore."

And Ellie, I think. I must find Ellie.

Garrison went around the table and escorted me to the exit. Bob Kings glared at me.

I was about to walk out of the exit and call Gloria or Ryan and ask them to pick me up when Garrison grabbed my elbow roughly.

"Hey," I said, twisting my arm away. I'm tired of being treated roughly. "We have given you the documents, and I have tried my best to prove that I am not a lunatic. I don't know what else you want from me."

Garrison let go of my arm. "If you plan to find your friends, I strongly advise against it."

"I don't care about your suggestions. Your detective skills are too bad."

"I strongly suggest not to do this," he repeated, walking past my acrimonious attitude. "But if I were you, I would ask Eve Hildebrand."

"How can I ask Eve? She is in jail."

She has visiting hours like other prisoners," he said. "Allie knows this. "

Garrison returned to the Jǐng police station without waiting for a reply.

"How did she know?" I asked, looking at him through the transparent door until his black shape melted into a turbulent ocean.

I realized that he was such a cold suggestion.

She knew it was because she went to see her.

Before or after I left Nashville, Ally had already started her own investigation. I should have known that she would not sit back and watch the world collapse.

The Davidson County Jail is located in the center of Nashville, just a few blocks away from the Jǐng Police Station in James Robertson Park, where I just left. On my way here, I called Gloria on my cell phone and asked her to pick me up from prison within an hour. She agreed, otherwise, I would have to walk a mile to Lane’s comic book store.
