Mortal Desires

Chapter 1: Amnesia

When Xu Ruoxing received Su Yi's call, there were two people standing in the office. They were the two directors of the design department. They usually disliked each other and were now arguing over the spring and summer styles.

“This year’s main color is green. We are mainly green, which is a classic style and will definitely not go out of style.”

"Every year, we keep the classics, cutting and reducing, so we can't innovate? Do we know that the industry is laughing at us for not daring to innovate and can only play it safe?"

"What's wrong with playing it safe? Performance is what everyone can see!"

"you… "

The ringing of a bell interrupted their argument. Xu Ruoxing tilted her head and saw a name flashing on the screen. It was Su Yi.

She was a little surprised because Su Yi never called her during work. The two people who were arguing with each other heard the ringtone and turned to look at Xu Ruoxing. The quarrel just stopped abruptly and the office became quiet in an instant.

Xu Ruoxing lowered her eyes, picked up the phone and put it to her ear. The voice that came from the other end was not Su Yi's, but a very unfamiliar woman's voice: "Hello, are you Su Yi's family member?"

Xu Ruoxing's heart skipped a beat and she stood up immediately.

Su Yi was in a car accident.

Xu Ruoxing held the steering wheel with both hands, the car window was open, the wind blew in, blowing her hair away, revealing a slightly serious profile, her jawline was tight, her lips were straight, and when she passed the traffic light, Xu Ruoxing could hear the nurse's voice in her ear: "Su Yi had a car accident and is now in the emergency room. Please come over."

Su Yi, a fashion designer, is rigorous and serious in his work, including driving. He has never had any scratches before, but now he has been in a car accident and has been sent to the hospital with injuries.

Xu Ruoxing felt a little unreal for a moment, but this feeling of unreality was soon diluted by the person on the other end of the phone. Zhao Yu said in a slightly anxious tone: "Have you arrived at the hospital? I'm at the hospital entrance."

Zhao Yu is Su Yi's best friend. She lives near the hospital and went there quickly, arriving earlier than Xu Ruoxing. Xu Ruoxing said, "Not yet."

It was rush hour and there was a bit of traffic jam. She frowned, rubbed the steering wheel with her fingers impatiently, and said, "Go in and see what's going on first."

Zhao Yu groaned as her high heels stepped on the hospital tiles, making her feel inexplicably irritated.

After hanging up the phone, Xu Ruoxing felt a little stuffy in her chest. She opened the car window, but the traffic showed no signs of moving. The occasional honking was more urgent and harsh than usual. She thought of the afternoon when she had a blind date with Su Yi, and it was the same.

It was rush hour, and there was also a traffic jam. The difference was that she was sitting in a cafe, turning her head to look at the slow-moving traffic outside, and Su Yi's apologetic voice came from the phone: "I'm sorry, I might be late."

She took a sip of coffee while handling her business and replied: "It's okay."

Half an hour later, Su Yi, dressed exquisitely, appeared at the entrance of the cafe. They had seen her photo before, and Su Yi walked straight towards her, stretched out her hand and smiled: "Su Yi."

The tone was the same as on the phone, light and somewhat distant: "Sorry, I'm late."

She was wearing a light grey business suit, her long curly hair, and slender high heels. She was dressed like a workplace elite and had a calm temperament, just as the introducer described.

Xu Ruoxing stretched out her hand: "It's okay, sit down."

The topics of blind dates are nothing more than the following: family, career, salary, and hobbies. At the end of the conversation, Su Yi said, "Ms. Xu, I know you have no plans to get married. You are here just to deal with your family. I am the same."
