Su Yi sat on the sofa all night, turning her head to look at the door from time to time. She heard Xu Ruoxing closing the door. When she ran out, the door had already closed. There was a click, not too heavy or too light, that hit her heart hard. As the heavy thoughts continued to fall on her, her eardrums suddenly hurt as if they were pierced. She covered her ears unconsciously with her hands, and when she came to her senses, Xu Ruoxing was gone.
She looked at the key on the coffee table, thinking that Xu Ruoxing would definitely need to open the door when she came back, so she stayed there, afraid that Xu Ruoxing was still angry and refused to knock on the door. She left the door open a crack, and darkness enveloped the light in the living room through the crack, swallowing it up bit by bit.
An hour passed and Xu Ruoxing didn't come back.
A night passed and she still didn't come back.
Su Yi leaned back on the sofa, her back felt numb and she had no feeling from the waist down. She had maintained the same posture for too long, and when she stood up, she fell back down.
It was as if I had fallen back to the day I got married.
They did not have a honeymoon, but the company gave them wedding leave. She accompanied Xu Ruoxing on a business trip to the neighboring province. Xu Ruoxing had to socialize during the day and drank a lot of wine. She also sat on the sofa in the hotel room at night, just watching her quietly.
Once Xu Ruoxing asked her: "Why don't you sleep?"
She said, "Wait a minute."
She waited a little longer, until Xu Ruoxing fell asleep and her heartbeat calmed down, then she dared to go to bed to rest and lie down beside Xu Ruoxing. Her heartbeat was too loud and she was afraid of disturbing Xu Ruoxing.
Su Yi moved his numb right leg, then slowly stood up and looked at the time on his phone. It was half past seven.
Xu Ruoxing didn't come back all night.
When she went to the bathroom, she saw that her face was unusually pale, with faint bloodshot eyes. She hadn't slept all night, so when she closed her eyes, her eyes felt sore. When she was brushing her teeth and washing her face, she heard a bang at the door!
She immediately left the bathroom, only to see that the door was closed and no one was inside. She guessed it had been blown shut by the wind.
Su Yi went back to the bathroom to wash up, and went downstairs to the company without eating breakfast.
It was still early when she arrived at the company. The design department was quiet and there was no one there. She stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window and looked out. The scenery that was familiar to her in the past seemed a little strange today.
When the assistant arrived at the office, she saw Su Yi standing alone by the French window, with her arms folded across her chest, her hair tucked behind her ears, and her earrings shining in the light. She knocked on the door, "Director Su, you're here so early."
Su Yi turned her head, the sunlight shining on her facial contours, her facial features were distinct, but a little cold.
She nodded slightly to her assistant, who asked, "Have you had breakfast? I'll go down and bring you one?"
Su Yi said, "Bring me a box of soy milk."
The assistant smiled: "Okay."
She turned around and went downstairs to buy breakfast. She met a colleague from the design department in the elevator and went downstairs together. The assistant asked, "Do you think Director Su is weird?"
Colleagues wondered: "What's so strange about that?"
The assistant muttered, "I don't know if she's in a bad mood, she's so cold. Ms. Xu also had a stern face yesterday. Are they having a fight?"
The colleague shook his head: "That shouldn't be the case. Mr. Xu and Director Su seem to be in love."
After they finished talking, they reached the first floor. The elevator door opened and the other person they were discussing was standing outside. The assistant and colleagues immediately ran out. Li Chen turned around, looked at Xu Ruoxing's face and said, "Look at you, with such a stern face. Who are you trying to scare so early in the morning?"
