Mountains and Seas

Chapter 16: Borrowing food

Views:

There is a temple on Yunju Mountain called Zhenru Temple. This temple is very famous locally and is very popular.

Zhenru Temple is famous for its "farming and Zen" and is self-sufficient. In that era of warlord separatism and people's livelihood, the area around the temple seems very peaceful, with a kind of tranquility like a pure land on earth.

Zhu Li didn't understand why Wu Dao was still in the mood to worship the temple. They were the rebels who fled to Xinzhou. Not only were they short of military supplies, but the morale of the people was also a little unstable. Wasn't the most important thing now to find food and stabilize the morale of the army

But he was not the only one who didn't understand. Zhang Guiba and his three brothers were equally confused. They just looked at Zhu Li expectantly. After all, if they wanted to know the reason, it would be much more convenient for Zhu Li to ask than for them.

In response, Zhu Li could only smile bitterly, but did not ask any further questions. He silently followed Wu Dao into Zhenru Temple.

Introduced by the young monk, Wu Dao and his entourage met the people in power in Zhenru Temple in a large hall. They were two old monks with drooping brows, and they looked miserable, as if everyone owed them money.

One of the short and skinny old monks, together with the stout old monk beside him, saw at a glance that Wu Dao was extraordinary, and they bowed their heads and raised their palms towards him and said, "Amitabha, I am very happy."

"I will teach you everything."

"Welcome to our humble temple."

After the pleasantries, the short and skinny old monk, Quan Qing, asked with a bitter face: "Donor, what brings you to my humble temple?"

Wu Dao did not look at them, but looked at the furnishings in the hall seriously. The hall was very magnificent, with Buddha statues decorated with gold and embroidered cushions, which looked very grand and luxurious.

Seeing all this, Wu Dao turned back to look at Quan Qing and said calmly, "We are running short of food when we march here. I have heard that Zhenru Temple emphasizes both farming and meditation, so I believe that there must be enough food. I am sorry to ask you to lend me some food to solve our urgent problem."

Borrowing grain from a monk, this reason instantly stunned Zhu Li and others. They thought this reason was incredible, and their eyes looking at Wu Dao became very strange, as if they were all stunned by his imaginative style of doing things.

Even the two old monks opposite, when they heard the words "borrow food", looked at Wu Dao with surprise and their expressions became unfriendly.

Zhu Li did not know much about religion in the Tang Dynasty, so he found it strange. He did not know to what extent Buddhism was prosperous in the Tang Dynasty. Although Wu Dao was reborn, he was a real Tang Dynasty person, and he was deeply touched by the prosperity of Buddhism.

Since the Tang Dynasty, Buddhism has been the most popular dynasty in China, without a doubt. The great female emperor Wu Zetian was born in a Buddhist family, and the basis for her enthronement was Buddhist theory. It can be seen that Buddhism had a great influence at that time.

The Tang Dynasty was also the dynasty with the most temples. The reason was very simple. Temples enjoyed the privilege of exemption from military service and taxes. Many civilians who could not survive would hide in the temples and never had to pay taxes again.

Moreover, the temples operated gardens and various secular businesses. In addition, a large number of people in power were devout Buddhists. As a result, worshiping Buddha became a trend and even the smallest temples had a steady stream of donations. The monks in the Tang Dynasty lived a much better life than ordinary people.

Wu Dao firmly believed that monks had money and food. As the world was in chaos now, the most lucrative temples had not suffered large-scale destruction, so he set his sights on the monks.

"Amitabha, I and other monks in the temple are all monks. Monks eat food from thousands of families and wear clothes from all over the world. Where do they get extra food

Give it to the general? " The skinny monk was angry but expressionless as he refused.

Wu Dao glanced at him and said bluntly, "Master, you also know that monks eat food from thousands of families and wear clothes from all over the world, but now the people in the world are hungry and clothed. Buddhism believes in cause and effect. The people have donated incense and provided for your survival for generations. Is this cause and effect? Now their descendants are in dire straits. Why don't you help them and end this cause and effect?"

"Or is it that monks always ask for money and never think of expressing gratitude or repaying kindness in the future?"

Wu Diao's words were sharp and aggressive, and he almost said that these monks were nothing but a group of ungrateful beasts; how could the two old monks tolerate such an insult? Upon hearing this, the short and skinny Quan Qing's worried face suddenly turned red, and he pointed at Wu Diao with trembling hands and said repeatedly: "You, you..." But he couldn't come up with a result for a long time.

The burly monk next to him, Quanhui, saw this and quickly chanted the Buddha's name: "Amitabha, benefactor, our temple really does not have any surplus food. If there was any extra food, we would never let the people go hungry and would definitely try our best to help them."

"Hahaha." Quan Hui's words made Wu Dao burst into laughter. His eyes were cold and fierce, and he looked fierce. "It is said that monks do not tell lies. You, old monk, are not honest. Since you said that there is no food in the temple, do you dare to let us search for it?"

As soon as he said this, Quan Hui's expression changed instantly. He glared at Wu Dao and shouted in a stern voice, "Donor, monks are compassionate. I know you are a guest from afar, so I am trying to comfort you with kind words. If you want to get violent, you should know that Buddha also gets angry sometimes."

Quan Jiao's words were powerful and the threat they contained was self-evident.

Will Wu Dao be afraid of their threats

Of course not. He looked at the two monks Quan Qing and Quan Hui coldly and said calmly, "The Buddha is merciful and slays demons with anger, but I, Wu Dao, care about my country and serve the people wholeheartedly. I am confident that I am not a demon. If the old monk insists on identifying Wu Dao as a demon, then you can just come and kill him."

When Quan Qing and Quan Hui heard this, their expressions of deep hatred and resentment changed, and a ferocious and cruel look immediately appeared on their faces. Quan Qing raised his hands and suddenly slapped each other twice in the air.

A burst of hurried footsteps suddenly sounded, and two teams of strong monks in gray clothes suddenly rushed out from the back of the hall. They were aggressive and holding wooden sticks. In a moment, they surrounded Wu Diao and others. They only needed to wait for the old monk's order, and these monks would attack Wu Diao and others without hesitation.

Wu Diao looked at these people coldly, not caring at all. He did not move. Although Zhu Li, Zhang Guiba and others were alert, they did not move rashly. The situation was tense and ready to break out. It seemed that a fight was inevitable.

At this time, a young man with black hair, a silk scarf tied around his head, and a white robe staggered over. He looked a little frivolous, holding a wine gourd in his hand, and drunkenly recited: "Under the moon, a pot of wine, drinking alone without a lover, raising the cup to invite the bright moon, and my shadow and I become three people... ... We made love together when we were drunk, and we went our separate ways after we were drunk, forever tied together, meeting each other in the distant Milky Way."

This is "Drinking Alone Under the Moon", a masterpiece by the great poet Li Bai. It expresses Li Bai's complex emotions of being unappreciated for his talent, from loneliness to not being lonely, then from not being lonely to loneliness, and finally not being lonely. Now, when it is recited by a young man in white clothes and a silk scarf, it actually gives people a feeling of being drunk and dreaming, with a profound charm that makes those who hear it feel sad.

His sudden appearance attracted everyone's attention.

, neither of the two parties in confrontation took the initiative to attack, and they just looked at him quietly.

"Drinking Alone Under the Moon" is a long poem. The staggering young man began reciting it as he entered the door of the hall. He staggered and rushed into the middle of the two confronting parties. He did not finish reciting the whole poem until he could barely stand up.

The young man, with drunken eyes, slowly raised his head, as if ready to look at Wu Diao. However, before Wu Diao responded, Zhu Li's expression changed drastically, because the moment the young man raised his head, the "Classic of Mountains and Seas" appeared in his mind again.

Along with the deafening and grand voice, it resounded in his consciousness at the same time: "Guo Qizuo, the heroic spirit of Guo Jia, is alive; Guo Jia, also known as Fengxiao, was an important counselor of Cao Cao, the Emperor of Wei during the Three Kingdoms period. He was known as "a talented person" and "a genius in the world". His heroic spirit is unyielding and is now in this world to help the people. His heroic spirit is back in the mountains and seas."

Guo Qizuo, the young man in white clothes and a blue scarf, was a failed scholar who lived in Zhenru Temple, drowning his sorrows in alcohol every day and was unhappy. Just now, when he was drunk, he suddenly heard Wu Diao's words, "But I, Wu Diao, care about my country and my people, and I work hard for the people." He was immediately startled and ran out to see who was that dared to say such nonsense.

But when he raised his head and was about to look at Wu Diao, he felt something in his heart, as if there was a divine force pulling him. He involuntarily shifted his gaze and looked fixedly at the boy who looked only fifteen or sixteen years old and was standing next to Wu Diao.

The young man was wearing armor, with a long sword on his waist and a fine steel spear in his hand. He looked heroic and extraordinary. In a trance, he seemed to be blessed by a halo, making him look like a rare and outstanding person.

The young man also stared at Guo Qizuo blankly. That look in his eyes seemed to be able to see through other people's past and present lives at a glance, as clear and magical as seeing through fire.

Seeing Zhu Li, Guo Jia was 80% drunk, but he was awakened 50% at once. Regardless of how serious the situation was, he bowed to Zhu Li and said respectfully, "I am Guo Qizuo from Xuzhou. May I ask your name?" (Guo Jia was from Yangdi, Yingchuan. In the Tang Dynasty, Yingchuan County was renamed Xuzhou.)

Guo Qizuo's behavior brought Zhu Li back to his senses. Seeing that the other party was so polite, he could not neglect him. He quickly bowed and responded, "I am Zhu Li from Xuzhou. Thank you for your courtesy, sir."

"Xuzhou, Xuzhou, haha, not only are they geographically close, but they also have the same pronunciation. It seems that we are destined to meet. May I ask where you are doing well?" Guo Jia seemed to be very interested in Zhu Li. He kept asking questions and making small talk.

This is a famous historical figure. Cao Cao was surrounded by enemies, but he was able to dominate the Central Plains in the end. Guo Jia played an indispensable role. The great leader of New China once said: Guo Jia is an outstanding wise man in history. His theory of ten victories involves almost all aspects of Chinese military thought. It is to the point, concise, profound and rare in ancient and modern times.

Zhu Li felt flattered when such a peerless figure talked to him, but he was still sober and knew what he did. He didn't dare to tell everyone about it. He could only avoid the other person's gaze with a little shame and turn to Wu Diao for help.

When Wu Diao saw that this scholar was so interested in Zhu Li, he was secretly very happy. Gold will always shine. It seems that I am not the only one with a unique vision. There are still many people in the world who have a discerning eye for pearls.

Thinking of this, he said without hesitation: "His name is Zhu Li, and he is currently the Guoyi Duwei of the Cao Army."
