My Deep Sea Fishery

Chapter 556: 554 ideas

"They've all been sold." Xiang Yang smiled and clasped his fists to everyone. "My catch is limited now. When I build a fleet and catch a surplus of fish, I will definitely ask everyone to help me sell it."

Tens of thousands of kilograms of yellow croaker were carried off the boat by workers and crew members, and the attraction to fishmongers was truly immeasurable.

One of the fishmongers wiped his nose and muttered, "Captain, Boss Li, you are too ruthless, aren't you? You don't even give us some of the yellow fish you have. So many of us have come from such a long distance, and the special car has been waiting here for so long, and you're just letting us go back empty-handed?"

Li Chao lowered his head to glance at the guy, then closed his eyes slightly, as if he didn't see the man at all. Li Chao felt that talking to the other person was a complete waste of time.

Xiang Yang just thought that the man was talking nonsense and had no intention of paying any attention to him.

But one person couldn't help it.

It was Murong Zhenfei. She jumped out from the crowd and said, "Was it Mr. Xiang or Mr. Li who asked you to wait here? And you think we are being unfair? You know we have taken the goods from the dock, and you come here to grab the food, but you dare to say that Mr. Li and Mr. Xiang are unfair. Are you teaching us how to behave?"

Murong Zhenfei's words quickly resonated with Fang Youqun.

Fang Youqun stepped forward, looked at everyone with a ferocious expression, and shouted along with Murong Zhenfei: "Are you teaching us how to behave?"

Xiang Yang looked at Fang Youqun's performance and grinned, "There's really no need to be polite to this kind of moral kidnapping."

Strictly speaking, this is Li Chao's business place, and these fishmongers are the invaders. Now they want to snatch Li Chao's supply of goods, and Li Chao will certainly not give them a cold shoulder.

The seafood buyer who spoke first immediately wished there was a crack in the ground for him to crawl into.

After tens of thousands of kilograms of yellow croaker were lifted down, boxes of silver pomfret followed.

Silver pomfret is a warm-temperate mid- and lower-layer fish that lives in the nearshore waters at a depth of 30 to 70 meters. It likes to gather in the shade and is a more valuable marine fish than yellow-skinned fish.

Speaking of silver pomfret, there is something that Xiang Yang is very concerned about.

As one of the important candidate species for marine aquaculture, silver pomfret has attracted widespread attention from countries around the world.

In recent years, silver pomfret has been listed as one of the four major local specialty aquaculture species in the marine germplasm project.

Although the specific breeding method of silver pomfret has not yet been researched, it is fully in line with the spirit of my country's medium- and long-term science and technology development plan, which proposes to "effectively increase the coverage rate of my country's marine breeding, promote the industrialization of a number of new marine breeding varieties that have achieved phased breakthroughs in artificial breeding, have good market potential and can represent different marine environments and different breeding models, accelerate the expansion of high-quality seed sources, and promote the structural adjustment of my country's marine breeding varieties."

Therefore, Xiang Yang is actually very concerned about the development of large-scale silver pomfret farming.

Xiang Yang himself had the idea of engaging in aquaculture, but was always constrained by the level of technology and the saturation of the market.

Currently, there is no company in the world that breeds silver pomfret, but silver pomfret breeding technology has indeed been listed as one of the four major local specialty aquaculture species in the marine germplasm project.

If Xiang Yang sets up a silver pomfret breeding base now, he can get policy support from above and the support of the villagers. Once the cultivation is successful, he will be the first company to engage in silver pomfret breeding, and the huge profits he can bring will be terrifying.

It is even possible that Xiang Yang could use this opportunity to become a domestic seafood supply giant.

Of course, this idea is still just an immature idea in Xiang Yang's mind.

If he wasn't sure, Xiang Yang would never really try to realize this idea.

As an important traditional fishery resource in my country, people began to make forward-looking deployments for the East China Sea silver pomfret more than ten years ago.

Since 2000, Ningbo University, the Institute of Oceanology and Fisheries, the East China Sea Fisheries Research Institute, Zhejiang University and a number of companies have successively undertaken the task of tackling the key issues of silver pomfret.

Scientific and technological projects such as research on artificial breeding technology of silver pomfret, research on artificial seedling cultivation technology of silver pomfret, research on factory-scale seedling cultivation technology of silver pomfret, and research on large-scale technology of silver pomfret have been carried out for more than ten years. Scientists have overcome countless technical difficulties, but after overcoming each difficulty, they always encounter more new difficulties.

In 2015, the government set up a major scientific and technological project called "Preliminary Technology Research and Demonstration for Silver Pomfret Industrialization".

This project is hosted by Ningbo University and jointly undertaken by four institutions including Zhejiang University. The preliminary industrial research plan is for 5 years and requires countless human and material resources.

After continuous efforts, biologists and scientists have clarified the gonad development, reproductive cycle and effective accumulated temperature of farmed silver pomfret. By combining nutrition and light control technology, they have now initially achieved artificial breeding of silver pomfret.

Scientists have also discovered that jellyfish is a special source of nutrition for silver pomfret, clarifying the silver pomfret's special nutritional needs for jellyfish.

Biologists also used ultra-high performance liquid chromatography technology to successfully screen and obtain 30 important lipid markers of silver pomfret, and successfully cloned genes related to the growth and fat metabolism of farmed silver pomfret.

But until 2017, the artificially farmed silver pomfret remained in the experimental waters.

There is nothing we can do about it.

Because this is determined by the living habits of silver pomfret.

Silver pomfret is a nearshore warm-temperate mid- and bottom-layer fish that generally lives in deep waters below 30 meters.

However, silver pomfret likes to swim to the middle and upper layers of the water in the morning and evening.

The most difficult problem to solve is that silver pomfret has a very obvious seasonal migration phenomenon and needs to hibernate in deep waters in the open sea.

Every spring, as the water temperature rises, schools of fish in various wintering grounds will swim toward the nearshore along their respective migration routes.

The most delicious overwintering fish in the northern waters of the East China Sea usually begin in April and move westward to northwest as the warm current strengthens.

By early to mid-April, the number of silver pomfret in Zhoushan fishing grounds and the Yangtze River Estuary fishing grounds increased significantly.

Sometimes, schools of silver pomfret will quickly move closer to the shore and go into the Dajieyang and Jiangsu coast to spawn.

Adult silver pomfret love to eat jellyfish, benthic animals and small fish.

Juvenile silver pomfret generally only feeds on small fish, arrow worms and copepods.

Taking all these conditions into consideration, Xiang Yang felt that the level of breeding of silver pomfret was much higher than that of yellow croaker.

Shaking his head, Xiang Yang drove this temporarily unrealistic idea out of his mind.

Although breeding silver pomfret is a good thing, if we want to really put it into practice, we should first wait until scientists have cultivated fish fry that can truly adapt to survival in the wild.
