My Heart Beats For You

Chapter 22

The sky outside the window was gloomy and the rain was dripping. The fluorescent lights in the classroom were bright and quiet, with only the occasional sound of test papers being flipped.

After confirming for the last time that there were no mistakes in the multiple-choice questions on the answer sheet, Fu Shitian placed the test paper upside down on the table, held the pen and student ID in one hand, and stood up with the other hand protecting the seat of the chair, finishing the last exam of the first semester of his freshman year twenty minutes early.

Fu Shitian went to the podium to pick up her schoolbag and went out. When she looked up, she realized that Shi Yi had handed in her paper earlier than her. She stood on the balcony and looked at the patio, as if she was enjoying the rain or as if she was distracted. The puppy wool felt was hanging next to her schoolbag, smiling at Fu Shitian innocently.

Fu Shitian's heart unconsciously followed its laughter and became cheerful. She put her pen and student ID card into her schoolbag, walked to Shi Yi, and sighed naturally, "You are so fast."

Shi Yi turned around and saw that it was her. He took off one of his headphones and asked, "Huh?"

Fu Shitian was embarrassed because she didn't notice that Shi Yi was wearing headphones.

Shi Yi's eyes turned, and he responded with an estimated answer: "You are pretty fast too."

Fu Shitian smiled: "I thought I was the first one."

"Then I'll let you do it next time." Shi Yi took off the other earphone and put it away.

Fu Shitian's dimples began to ripple. She stood side by side with Shi Yi, watching the rain falling from the patio: "The last subject is over, and it's time for the holiday."

"Yeah." Shi Yi asked, "Are you going home?"

Fu Shitian shook his head: "No, I applied to stay in school and will go home on the 26th."

"Are there any activities?"

"Well, there is a student I tutored before who hopes I can give her a week of intensive tutoring during the winter break."

Shi Yi pursed his lips and asked, "Is it safe?"

Fu Shitian felt warm in his heart and said affirmatively: "It's okay, he's just a junior high school boy, there are always elderly people at home."

"Will you be there tonight?"

"No, during the day, from 8:30 to 10:30 in the morning."

Shi Yi nodded and was about to say something, but Jian Lu and his men spoke before he arrived, "It's finally over. I've been exhausted these past two weeks."

Fu Shitian and Shi Yi turned around, Jian Luhe fastened the bag chain, took Shi Yi's arm and said, "Let's go, we're free."

Shi Yi asked Fu Shitian: "Are you waiting for someone?"

Fu Shitian shook his head, and Shi Yi said, "Then let's go together."

The three of them walked and talked, mostly Jian Lu and Jiji talked, while Fu Shitian and Shi Yi listened quietly. They would not see each other for nearly a month, and Fu Shitian felt reluctant to leave, so he deliberately followed them back to the dormitory, and then went back to the cafeteria to eat.

That night, Cheng Jialuo, Luo Xi and Zhang Lulu packed their suitcases and went home to celebrate the New Year. At around five o'clock the next morning, Song Chuyuan and Zhou Na also took a taxi to the airport to catch their flight.

Fu Shitian was awakened by their noise and lay quietly on the bed. After they left, she got up and locked the door. Maybe she had taken a nap, so she slept late. At around nine o'clock, she got up, washed her face and brushed her teeth, made a cup of oatmeal to fill her stomach, and sat down at the desk to prepare for class.

I don’t know how long it was before my phone suddenly vibrated.

Fu Shitian grabbed it and opened it. It turned out to be a text message from Shi Yi. This was the first time Shi Yi sent her a text message.

Shi Yi even introduced himself: "I am Shi Yi."

Fu Shitian was touched by her cuteness and was about to reply "I know" when Shi Yi's text message came in again: "Have you finished your tutoring today?"

Fu Shitian was stunned for a moment, and answered honestly: "I don't have a tutor today. What's wrong?"

Shi Yi was silent.

Five minutes passed, ten minutes passed, and the text message dialog box remained motionless.

Fu Shitian had to check it out from time to time, and couldn't concentrate on preparing for class. She hesitated whether she could call directly to ask, and Shi Yi finally came back to life.

"So when will you start tutoring?"

"The day after tomorrow."

"."

Fu Shitian pondered over this period, unable to figure it out. She tentatively repeated, "What's wrong?"

Shi Yi replied: "It's okay, I'll ask."

Fu Shitian had no choice but to put down his phone and continue preparing for class. The pen tip made a few marks on the paper, and then stopped without any warning. Fu Shitian took out the text message with Shi Yi and read it again. Suddenly, a thought came to his mind, and his heartbeat started to jump.

She seemed to know what Shi Yi was going to do!

This guess was confirmed when Shi Yi sent another message at 11:05 the day after tomorrow, "Have you finished tutoring today?"

Fu Shitian was at the bus stop, and replied to Shi Yi with a silly smile: "It's over, I'm waiting for the bus."

Shi Yi replied immediately: "Okay, be careful."

From that day on, for six consecutive days, Shi Yi sent messages at 11:05 on time, asking her if she was done or if she was waiting for the bus.

On the last day, it started to drizzle again. When the hostess heard that she had to catch a train home in the afternoon, she still paid her two hours of lessons, but let her finish the get out of class half an hour early.

The kindness of strangers makes people feel particularly warm. Fu Shitian left the community and stood at the desolate bus stop waiting for the bus, her heart still warm. She held the umbrella in one hand and took out her phone with the other hand to take the initiative to send a text message to Shi Yi.

Typing with one hand is slow. The umbrella above my head seems to be old. Raindrops seep in from somewhere and fall on the screen keyboard in a few seconds.

Fu Shitian wiped it dry and was about to input again when the screen was again covered with water marks. She blinked and suddenly smiled.

God encouraged me to call directly. She deceived herself and finally carried out the impulse that she had suppressed for several days.

While waiting for the call to be answered, what came from the other end of the receiver seemed to be not a "beep, beep, beep" sound, but the sound of her chaotic heartbeat.

Just when Fu Shitian was about to retreat and think “I might as well hang up”, Shi Yi answered the phone.

"Si Tian?" Her pleasant voice came.

Fu Shitian's throat tightened and he said dryly, "Shi Yi, I finished tutoring early today."

"What happened?"

"No, it was his mother who heard that I was going home in the afternoon, so she asked me to finish early and go back to pack my things."

"That's fine."

"But she still paid me two hours' wages normally." Fu Shitian unconsciously turned the umbrella handle in his hand.

"It means she is very satisfied with you."

Fu Shitian laughed and wanted to say a few more words to end the call, but he heard Shi Yi's voice seemed to be a little far away from the microphone, so he said sorry to him in Japanese.

Fu Shitian quickly said sensibly: "Shi Yi, if you have something to do, go ahead."

"It's okay." Shi Yi replied quickly, "I just bumped into someone by accident."

Fu Shitian calmed down, "Are you outside?"

"Um."

"walk?"

"Um."

Fu Shitian said with discretion again: "Then you should walk carefully and be safe. I don't have anything else to do, I just want to tell you that my tutoring classes are over."

"Okay." Shi Yi agreed.

Fu Shitian hung up the phone. The bus arrived and she folded her umbrella and got on.

A long time later, she was sitting in the waiting hall of the high-speed railway station, looking through the foggy floor-to-ceiling windows at the dim lights in the distance, still thinking about the phone call.

Did she disturb Shi Yi

The display screen at the ticket gate showed that there were still three minutes until her train started checking tickets. Fu Shitian stood up and prepared to go to the queue, and her phone vibrated again.

It’s a text message from Shi Yi.

The text message turned out to be a MMS, and Shi Yi shared a photo with her.

Under the branches full of snow, the white snow road stretches deep into the sky under the illumination of red lanterns. The pagoda stands outside the sky that cannot be hidden by the branches, emitting a mysterious and quiet light. The picture is so beautiful that it looks like a CG picture from an anime.

Shi Yi said: "I was just on my way here."

It was a very ordinary sentence, but Fu Shitian felt that it had the power to change the world.

She replied to Shi Yi with a smile, and the ticket check had already begun. She lined up to wait for the ticket check, and turned her head inadvertently to see the lights outside the window in the mist again.

Suddenly I felt that those were not dim lights, but the fireworks that made people nostalgic.

She kept a good mood all the way back to Fu Jiantao's home.

The living room at home was dark. Fu Shitian turned on the light in the entrance hall, changed his shoes, and greeted the people inside: "Uncle, aunt, Xiaoyu, I'm back."

"My dad is busy with a project, and my mom went to help him." Fu Siyu's voice came from the darkness.

Fu Shitian put on the slippers that didn't fit her feet and walked towards Fu Siyu's room in the dark. She knocked on the door, and Fu Siyu replied, "Come in."

Fu Shitian opened the door, blinked twice to adjust to the light, and asked her with concern: "Have you eaten? Do you want me to cook some midnight snack?" My uncle told me that after Xiaoyu entered her third year of high school, Wang Meifen asked her to eat four meals a day.

Fu Siyu's focus was not here at all. She looked at Fu Shitian for several times, raised her eyebrows, and said shockingly: "Are you in love?"

Fu Shitian was puzzled: "No."

"I won't tell my parents."

"I really didn't." She thought so. Fu Shitian blushed.

"Tsk. Just forget it." Fu Siyu lowered his head and continued to work on the questions, dismissing her: "I've left some porridge in the pot for you, heat it up and eat it yourself."

Fu Shitian said "hmm", and seeing that she didn't want to pay attention to him anymore, he didn't dare to disturb her.

She went to the kitchen to heat up some porridge and some pickled mustard tubers to fill her stomach, preparing to make some for Fu Siyu as a midnight snack. While beating the eggs, she called Fu Jiantao to ask if he was getting off work soon.

Fu Jiantao said no, and told her not to wait for them, to wash up and go to bed early. When Wang Meifen heard that it was her, she snatched Fu Jiantao's phone and told her not to wait for them, as they didn't know how long they would be busy.

Fu Shitian was still wondering why his aunt was so enthusiastic today, when Wang Meifen changed the subject and said, "If you are hungry, cook some supper for the fish. She had porridge with pickled mustard tuber in the evening."

Fu Shitian understood and said in a gentle voice, "Okay, Auntie, I'm just about to cook some noodles for Xiaoyu too."

She fried the eggs, took the meat out of the refrigerator to thaw it, put in vegetables and tomatoes, and made a bowl of noodles for Fu Siyu that looked good and sent it in. Fu Siyu hadn't eaten a single bite of rice tonight, and was starving, so he didn't hesitate to just lower his head and sip a few times, saying, "It's too bland."

Fu Shitian said in a good-tempered manner: "Then I'll add two more grains of salt to the pot."

Fu Siyu glanced at Fu Sitian and felt uncomfortable. "No need." She lowered her head and ate two more bites. Suddenly she told her, "My parents said that we will take the bus back to our hometown tomorrow afternoon."

Fu Shitian's breathing became noticeably heavier.

Fu Siyu poked the bowl twice uncomfortably with his chopsticks, "If you don't want to go back, I can talk to my mom."

Fu Shitian's face was obviously not as good as when he just came back, but he still said: "I don't miss it."

The old man lives alone in the countryside all year round. As his children and grandchildren, it is only natural for us to go back and spend time with him during the holidays.

Fu Siyu suddenly glared at her angrily, her tone getting worse: "Okay, okay, I don't want to." She quickly drank two mouthfuls of soup and stuffed the bowl into Fu Shitian's arms. "Actually, it's good to go back. Grandma still gives me New Year's money, which is a few hundred more than you every year."

The author has something to say: On the ten minutes of silence, Shi·GaoLeng·FanChe·e's inner thoughts:

Shi Yi: You want to? What are you thinking about
