I have always been in awe of people working in the medical profession.
The first time I had the idea of writing this story was after "Good Words and Beautiful Writings" and before "Exclusive Memories". At that time, I had written less than 5,000 words.
At that time, due to my own reasons, I could not write about the profession of doctor with a calm and detached attitude, so I put it aside and finally left it unfinished. I turned to write "Exclusive Memory". When I rewrote this article, I also had a little discomfort and was very depressed at one point, so when the article reached 30,000 words, the serialization began to be intermittent.
Dentists accompanied me throughout my adolescence. In the first twenty years of my life, I dealt with dentists the most. There were doctors I disliked and doctors I liked. Some doctors were profit-driven, while others were worthy of admiration. Ai Jingchu was the ideal doctor that I and many others yearned for.
Originally, this is a novel about childhood and youth memories, the gray memories hidden deep in my heart, the excellent neighbor brother, and those first loves that ended without success, etc. I originally planned to start writing from the time when Zeng Li was fifteen years old, and then describe her entire growth process. Unfortunately, I was not satisfied with what I wrote, so I chose her twenty-four as a new starting point, and only interspersed some of the previous fragments as memories in the text.
Next, let me talk about the title of the book. This is a line from a poem I like very much - "In the dust of the world, I prefer love and hate." So I used the first half of the line as the title of the book and the second half as the names of the characters, and wrote this story about "Wu", "Ning", "Ai", "Yu" and "Zeng". Originally, Wu Ying and Ning Feng were supposed to have more scenes, but later many details were deleted due to length constraints.
Zeng Li and Yu Yi in the past are sigh-worthy. Sometimes, we think we love someone, but we don’t know that what we love may not be the person, but the feeling of love.
When Zeng Li recalled his first love, dialogues from the movie "Days in the Clouds" appeared twice.
"What if I said I loved you?"
“It’s like lighting a candle in a bright room.”
Zeng Li misunderstood this dialogue twice before, but finally she realized that love was just a little candlelight in a bright room, and it was not important. In the article, the article about the movie that Zeng Li read on a certain page of a magazine was also read by me when I was 19 years old, and I still remember the original text clearly.
—What if I say I love you
—Like a candle lit in a bright room.
Antonioni, the director who wrote this line, spent his entire life portraying the alienation and unreasonableness between people.
Love can be so joyful, but also so fragile.
Fortunately, Zeng Li finally met Ai Jingchu.
You met another person.
