Charles still trusts Tuba for the time being.
This guy is indeed crazy, but judging from the way he helped me before, he should not have any hostility, otherwise he could have just not helped and let the pirates take them away directly.
Walking on the rocky walkway, Charles could see pirates as small as ants on the dock below and warships like toy ships on the sea in the distance.
The corridors of the mountain city were relatively narrow, and sporadic pirates passed by them, but they had no intention of attacking. They glanced at Tuba and then went about their own business.
It was as if Tuba, who was holding a cross above his head in front of him, really had an effect.
"Mr. Charles, are we really invisible? Why don't they attack us?" Lily, who was standing on Charles' shoulder, stretched out her little claws curiously and grabbed the clothes of a pirate next to her.
"No."
Charles knew that they were definitely not invisible, but he was also a little confused as to how the old madman in front of him managed to do that.
Following Tuba, they walked around the mountain city for nearly half an hour and came to a low cave.
"After passing through here, we can see what you are looking for." Tuba said with a smile, and bent down and went in first.
"Could the fuel you are talking about be buried in this mountain?" Charles asked Tuba.
If the fuel is really in here, it would be easier for him to lead people to rush into the black exchange just now. At least there is still a glimmer of hope to snatch it from there.
If they really wanted to move the fuel out of the mountain, the pirates would probably surround them before they could finish moving it.
"No, it's on the other side of the mountain. The fuel comes from there." Tuba in the cave answered in a muffled voice.
The environment inside the cave is short and stuffy. People have to squat and walk inside, which is very depressing.
After walking in this environment for nearly ten minutes, Charles, who was very resilient, and the small mice were fine, but Feuerbach could not hold on any longer.
Hearing the breathing behind him getting heavier, Charles asked, "How is it? Are you okay?"
Feuerbach wiped the sweat from his forehead with his sleeve. "It's okay! I just feel a little depressed. Compared with this environment, the vast ocean still belongs to me."
This discomfort did not last long. Five minutes later, they came out from the other side of the mountain.
The view in front of him suddenly opened up. Standing halfway up the mountain, Charles looked down. Scattered buildings of varying sizes were located in the valleys between the mountains.
But Charles' eyes did not fall on those buildings, but on the most eye-catching ruins of a giant circular facility on the distant seashore.
It was a giant industrial facility not much smaller than the surrounding mountains. Although it had been corroded by time and was in ruins, Charles was still shocked.
"Wow, the pirates definitely can't build something this big. It must have been made by the Foundation. How come these guys have it everywhere?" Richard jumped out.
"There, that's where the fuel comes out." Tuba said, pointing to a group of buildings below the ring facility.
The place Tuba pointed to was a black shed that was estimated to be the size of four football fields. From above, it was impossible to tell what was inside. All that could be seen were several tall towers erected around it, with searchlights illuminating the surroundings. The security was very tight.
Standing high up, Charles was able to see some details. Behind the factory building, there were several messy and crisscrossed railroad tracks.
Those were not train tracks but mine cart tracks, which were carrying something and heading towards the back of another mountain on the island.
Because the distance was too far, Charles couldn't see what was on the mine carts, he only saw that the rocks were black.
"Is the fuel here coal or the waste oil left over from boiling whale oil?"
As for the charcoal, Charles didn't even ask. How could there be charcoal fuel in a place where not even grass grew
"Coal mine whale oil? What is that? I don't know. We call it black balls. We've been burning that stuff all this time we've been here."
Charles thought to himself. "It sounds like a coal mine. It seems that this island has rich coal resources."
After coming down from the mountain, they approached the giant facility cautiously.
After walking quietly along the circular facility for a few minutes, they were now very close to the black shed complex. Charles could even see the white breath coming out of the mouths of the patrolling pirates on the platform.
Just as Tuba was about to walk towards the black iron gate of the building complex, he was stopped by Charles. "What are you doing!"
"It's okay, I can become invisible, don't be afraid! They can't see us." Tuba patted his chest and took out the wrinkled cross again.
But Charles couldn't let him act recklessly. Perhaps Tuba really had some special abilities. He was just an ordinary pirate before, but this place was obviously an important place on the island, and there must be more powerful pirates guarding it.
If Tuba makes the slightest mistake, Charles' entire mission will be in vain.
And he had better options than letting this lunatic rush in like that.
"Lily, let your friend explore the way." Charles said to the mouse on his shoulder.
Small mice are obviously suitable for lurking and investigating, which is why Charles brought Lily here.
"Squeak~Squeak~" The black and brown mice next to them jumped quickly for a while, and then four mice ran towards the buildings along the dark corner.
"Mr. Charles, don't worry. I have taught them a lot of things before. Tiao Tiao will definitely be able to explain it clearly this time."
Charles nodded with a serious expression. As long as they could find out whether this was a fuel plant, their mission on the island would be accomplished.
Time passed little by little, and Charles, who was becoming increasingly anxious, took out his pocket watch from time to time to check the time. He had never felt that time was so long.
"Dude, should we go in and take a look?" Richard controlled his eyes and turned to the huge ring next to him.
"Don't look for trouble. Haven't you caused enough trouble?" Charles squeezed out these words from between his teeth.
"How can you call it looking for trouble? This place is so broken that there's no roof. What danger could there be? Look, there are spider webs everywhere."
Charles remained unmoved, standing there looking at his pocket watch.
"That's pointless. This facility belongs to the Foundation. Go inside and see what's going on. They came down from the surface. What if they have some crucial information about the exit?"
"Don't talk nonsense. I don't want to argue with you at this time."
"How about a compromise and letting Lily's mouse in? That should be fine, right?"
