Shrouded Seascape

Chapter 156: Falling

Charles wiped his sweaty palms on his clothes and his mind started to work rapidly.

Are these things talking about disasters? What kind of disasters can happen when it is on the surface of the earth? Could it be that the heat on the surface of the earth is caused by humans themselves

"Light-skinned people, get out of here! You will only bring disaster if you go up there!!"

The giant mantises continued flapping their wings and repeating the same words.

Seeing the six-meter-long giant mantises all around, Charles knew that the most important thing at the moment was not to irritate them.

After considering his words, he said, "Who are you? Why don't you let us go up?"

Since they can communicate, perhaps we can get some information out of them.

But these mantises had no intention of talking to Charles, and the sound of flapping their wings became more and more frequent.

"Light-skinned people, get down, now!! The last disaster was caused by you!! The contract is over! We will never believe you again! Ever!!" All the mantises' sickle blades popped out.

"What exactly is the disaster you are talking about! What's wrong with the earth now? I don't know who the humans who contacted you last time were. I am not in the same group with them!" Charles yelled at them.

The sound of flapping wings disappeared, and the mantises gathered in a circle, hanging on the cliff like sculptures.

Time seemed to stop at this moment, and both the humans and the monsters on the wall were motionless.

At this time, Charles felt the sunlight above was getting stronger and stronger. He grabbed the rope with both hands and climbed up the airbag like a clever monkey.

He stood still, squinting his eyes and looking up. At most three hundred meters above him, there was a smudge of blue with a bright corner of the sun. That was the surface of the earth, where he had come from.

At this moment, with a "buzz" sound, the mantises spread their ferocious wings and pounced over with their fangs and claws bared.

The sharp sickle blade penetrated the airbag like cutting tofu. With the sound of leather tearing and wood cracking, the entire Sheng Zhan was torn into pieces, including the bodies of some crew members.

But for some reason, the mantises did not attack Charles. Instead, they hung on the cliffs around them, facing the falling Charles with their bud-shaped heads.

Charles quickly adjusted his status in the air, intending to wait for the surviving followers of the Church of Illuminati to rescue him.

However, he was wrong this time. The surviving believers of the Rising War did not fall with him. They resolutely flew towards the dangerous tunnel. "The bishop's mission must be completed! Long live the Sun God!!"

From Charles' perspective, they were like moths flying towards a flame.

When he completely fell out of the gap, he saw in the dazzling sunlight that countless mantises pounced on the believers.

The human body fell at a very fast speed, and Charles had no time to consider others. If he fell directly onto the water from this height, it would be basically no different from falling onto the concrete ground.

The howling wind pressure made Charles' hair shake rapidly, and his mind was working quickly to find a way to save himself.

Seeing the sea surface expanding rapidly, Charles took out the bat goggles and wiped his bloody right hand.

The ferocious bat monster flapped its wings quickly to reduce the force of its fall. When it was still 20 meters away from the sea surface, Charles finally stopped.

Unfortunately, the next second, without any warning, with a "bang", the red flame quickly enveloped it. Charles felt a pain like a needle prick all over his body.

Sunlight is the nemesis of vampires. In just a few seconds at most, Charles's ending will change from falling to death to being burned to death.

In desperation, Charles retracted his wings and plunged straight into the cold sea.

Seeing something falling into the sea through the gap, everyone on the island was extremely nervous. Some of those who were good at swimming quickly rushed to the sea to try to rescue the person.

Hu En and his followers were the first to come forward. He was so nervous that he asked, "What happened up there? Did you see the God of Light?"

Charles, who was covered in black, waved his hands helplessly. "No, the creatures that attacked us are those that live on the top of the cave. They are the ones that prevented us from going up."

"What does that thing look like? Are there many of them?" Hu En continued to ask.

But he couldn't get an answer to this question. Charles' head tilted and he fainted.

I don’t know how much time had passed, Charles woke up slowly, he was lying on a neat big bed, his body wrapped in thick white gauze.

With a slight movement, Charles felt a slight stinging pain in his body.

"Don't move." The doctor's old voice came from the left.

Charles turned his neck with difficulty and saw the ship's doctor who was adjusting some kind of medicine and the bandage sitting beside him.

"Didn't I tell you not to move?" The ship's doctor grabbed Charles' head and quickly straightened him up.

"How long have I been unconscious?"

"About seven or eight days. You were seriously injured this time, and a lot of your skin was burned."

"Haha, is it that serious? It looks like you'll have a lot of scars on your body now."

Hearing Charles' relaxed tone, the doctor's ugly face was a little surprised. "You seem to be in a good mood despite such a serious injury."

Recalling that scene, Charles' mouth curled up slightly. It was the first time he had seen the scenery outside in nine years.

Although he couldn't see it clearly because of the strong light, the scenery was so beautiful in his heart. "It's okay. It's worth it."

The doctor showed a trace of disgust on his face. "Okay, don't stop, keep looking for death. When you lose your life one day, then I can get off the ship."

Charles didn't have time to chat with him. He saw important information inside the gap and he needed to tell the believers of the Church of Light immediately.

Since those mantises are just living creatures, it is much easier to deal with. As long as we find a way to get rid of them, the way to the surface will be cleared.

"Doctor, call Hu En over here. I need to see him for something."

"Don't make a noise. You can't see anyone in your current condition. Just focus on recovering from your injuries."

As the doctor spoke, he injected a tube of black medicine into Charles' arm. Charles' eyelids quickly drooped and he lost consciousness.

The doctor limped out of the ward. A believer of the Church of Light who had been waiting at the door stood up immediately and asked nervously, "Excuse me, is Governor Charles awake?"

"Why are you in such a hurry? He's not awake yet!" The doctor pushed him away roughly and walked out.

The doctor walked out of the narrow corridor and onto the deck of the Narwhal. He looked at the bright Island of Hope in the distance with melancholy, raised his head and took a sip of wine.

"Captain... is awake, why... don't you tell them..."

The doctor didn't turn around to listen to the slow voice behind him. "Let him rest. The only place he can stay is the bed."
