Shrouded Seascape

Chapter 19

Hearing what the mouse said, Dipper still looked unconvinced and asked again: "Little guy, where do you live? How many people are there in your family?"

The white mouse thrust his hips forward. "I live in Coral Island, 158 East 12th District. My father's name is Oliver, he's a doctor, and my mother's name is Olivia. I'm 11 years old. I'm a girl. Huh! How about that? Now you believe it, right?"

The boatswain Dipper wanted to say something, but was held back by Charles. He didn't care where this little guy came from. At this moment, he cared more about the danger outside.

"Lily, I can take you back, but first you have to tell me what those things were just now?"

The white mouse Lily shook her head. "I don't know, and neither do my uncles. I named them big fat bugs. If you encounter them, you must separate and run for your lives. They are very powerful. Not only can they become invisible, but they can also spit. None of my friends have ever come back after being caught by them."

"Are there many of them?"

"A lot, a lot. There's a mountain beyond the rocky ground, and there are stones everywhere in the mountain." Lily opened her mouse claws and gestured desperately.

After estimating the strength of both sides, Charles fell into deep thought. There was no road leading to the surface of this island and there were many dangerous monsters. It seemed that there was no need to explore.

"Lily, we are going back to Coral Island now. If you want to go home, you can follow us."

He could feel the friendliness of the white mouse, not to mention that he could empathize with her desire to go home.

Charles turned around and was about to leave when a squeak sound was heard and a large group of rats bared their teeth, blocking their way back.

"Wait a minute, uncle and the others need your help. Let's help them first before we leave, okay?"

Charles shook his head, not wanting to cause any more trouble. "Sorry, we can't help them. Let the mice get out of the way."

The innocent Lily didn't seem to understand what Charles meant, and said in a coquettish tone: "Hey, promise me, that thing is really important to uncle and the others. Look, uncle is coming out."

Everyone turned to look and saw a giant rat the size of a puppy crawling out from the shadows, its bright yellow eyes looking the humans up and down.

This big rat was obviously not as friendly as Lily, and its eyes were full of hostility.

"Squeak!" The giant rat suddenly screamed, and the rats around it instantly surged up, with their fangs and claws bared as if they were going to devour Charles and his group alive in the next second.

Charles and his men immediately drew their weapons and quickly pointed them at the Rat King.

Seeing that the two sides were on the verge of a fight, the white mouse showed an anxious expression on its furry face, and hurriedly ran to the big mouse and squeaked, as if it was communicating something with the big mouse.

After a while, the discussion between the white rat and the giant rat seemed to have come to a conclusion. Lily said with a hint of apology: "I'm sorry, uncle said that he has sent rats to close the beach. If you don't help him, he won't let you get on the boat..."

Charles chuckled. He never expected that he would be threatened by a mouse.

"Hiss~" The fuse of the explosives, which was the size of a small quilt, was ignited.

Lily recognized what Charles was holding, and the hair on her body instantly stood up. She quickly shouted, "Don't click, don't click. Uncle will reward you! It's a treasure, a good treasure."

Charles pinched his fingers and extinguished the burning fuse. "What treasure?"

Charles doesn't want to fight to the death with these rats, so if the reward is right, he can give it a try.

Then he saw two mice dragging two things in front of Charles, a mask and a piece of white paper.

"Item Number: 096"

“Project Name: “Clown Mask”

"Containment Level: Level 3 object containment, currently contained in Laboratory 3."

"Description: 096 is a clown mask with a red nose, white skin, and an ecstatic expression. It was found at the [DATA EXPUNGED] circus on Mangrove Island. 096's previous owner had gone mad. After a psychological evaluation, this 27-year-old woman suffered from obvious personality changes and split personality."

Experiment Log 1: "Let Subject 654 wear 096."

"Ten minutes after wearing it, the subject's body became unusually flexible and agile, and his strength was greatly improved. All his stats were close to the human body's limit, and he was able to perform all acrobatic events, including but not limited to: flying trapeze, blindfolded knife throwing, and shrinking into a box."

"Thirty minutes after wearing it, Subject 654 became somewhat agitated and communicated with Dr. [DATA EXPUNGED] outside the explosion-proof glass window, attempting to tell poor jokes to make the doctor laugh."

"One hour after wearing it, Subject 654 began talking to himself. The content was accusations between him and the other person in his body, accompanied by neurotic laughter."

"Three hours after wearing it, the subject attempted to cut his own trachea with his fingernails. Security personnel injected anesthetic gas and removed 096. Three days later, the subject's physical and mental abnormalities did not disappear. Subject 654 was found to be worthless and has been destroyed."

This appears to be some kind of report that someone intends to use scientific methods to understand a relic called the clown mask.

Charles shifted his gaze from the paper to the mask on the back of the mouse in the distance. That thing was probably the clown mask described on the paper.

Charles hesitated for a moment, picked up the mask and covered his face with it. In an instant, Charles felt his body become half lighter, as if he was stepping on cotton.

He pushed off his feet lightly, and his body nimbly reversed two and a half weeks in the air before landing steadily.

"Oh my god, this thing is awesome. If I travel back in time and participate in the Olympics, I will definitely win a gold medal."

The next second, Charles quickly took off the mask on his face and stared at the pale smiling face with fear.

Even though I just said those words, the tone and intonation were not like my usual self, as if I had suddenly become a different person.

"What do you think? Do you agree? I've just been trying to persuade your uncle for a long time." Lily jumped to Charles' feet and pulled his trouser legs and shook them hard.

Charles hesitated for a moment, then held Lily in his hands and said, "Why do you need our help? I see that these mice are very intelligent, so they should be more useful than us, right?"

"We don't have hands. The thing is placed in a room. Uncle said that you must have hands to open it. Don't worry, it's very easy and not dangerous at all. I've been there several times."

Charles thought for a moment and then lowered his head and said, "Okay, I agree."

Although this mask relic is very strange, it is still very useful as long as you control the wearing time. It can be used for both escaping and fighting.

Even if you don't need it yourself, you can go back and sell it to other captains.

Lily jumped up and down with joy when she heard Charles's answer. "Great! I knew you were a good person!"
