Chapter 199: rest

"Are you the white mouse from before? You gave birth to so many?!" Elizabeth recognized Lily.

Lily was obviously not satisfied with this answer. She put her hands on her hips and said angrily, "She is still a girl! She has never even held a boy's hand, how can she have a child? These are all born by my mouse friend."

"Okay, okay, hurry up and do your thing." Charles interrupted their conversation. He didn't ask Lily to come over to chat with Elizabeth.

Lily turned around and squeaked a few times at the mice in the room.

The sound of mice echoed in the room, and the noise made Elizabeth, with a frown on her face, move slightly closer to Charles.

Soon, the mice's communication ended, and Lily picked up the pen beside her and began to write crookedly.

Although it was inconvenient to hold the pen with her little paws, the words Lily wrote were actually much better looking than those in Dipper's diary.

Elizabeth came over and was surprised to find that the paper clearly recorded the abnormal actions of important members of Bright Island.

Charles touched Lily's head with his hand. "Lily, get Dipper over here."

A mouse ran out in a hurry. Soon, Dipper came in, panting and scratching his neck. "Captain, why are you waking me up so early in the morning? Didn't you say you were going to rest for a long time this time?"

Charles handed the paper in his hand over. "Finish this matter, and then go to sleep."

Dipper's face was stunned. He reached out to take it. After reading the contents clearly, a hint of anger suddenly appeared on his face.

Just as he was about to rush out the door, he turned back. "Captain, there seem to be several navy men on this thing. Did they do it at the same time?"

"Just do what I told you before and perform your duties."

"Okay, I get it. These are a bunch of traitors! Just wait and see how I deal with them!" After saying that, Dipper rushed out angrily.

Elizabeth was very surprised and said: "I didn't know that your rat crew could be used in this way! No wonder you said there is no need to worry about betrayal. Everyone on the island is within your sight."

Charles chuckled. This was the reason why he dared to go out and explore the island. With Lily's mouse monitoring, the island could be completely controlled.

Otherwise, over time, something unexpected will definitely happen on the island. Hope Island is his base camp, and he must keep it stable.

"Honey, how about giving me some of this mouse?" Elizabeth sat up with a smile.

"I'm afraid that won't work. These mice are under Lily's care." Charles put his hand on her waist.

“Really… Is this not okay?” Her sexy face came closer.

Just as their faces were getting closer, he felt something strange next to him.

They turned their heads at the same time and saw Lily sitting at the table with her eyes wide open, watching with a very serious expression.

"Mr. Charles, am I bothering you?"

Elizabeth burst out laughing and smacked Charles with her hands. "Hahaha, your little crew is so cute."

Charles took Elizabeth's hand and walked towards the door. "Come on, let's go out for a walk."

Coming out of the Governor's Palace, he declined the driver who was there and walked outside with Elizabeth.

Outside the Governor's Palace are rows of neat and exquisite pointed-roof houses. Walking among them feels like you have traveled back to the Victorian era.

"I have to say, Charles, your island is much better than mine. Perhaps this place really is a land blessed by the God of Light." Elizabeth said with emotion.

Passing through the exquisite and elegant center of the island, Charles came to the outskirts where the islanders lived.

In the vast square, the islanders were happily stacking firewood.

Charles was a little surprised to see the enthusiasm of the islanders. He didn't even know what was happening on his island.

"Madam, may I ask why we are building this bonfire?" Charles stopped a woman in her thirties who was holding her daughter and asked.

"You two, tomorrow is the Island Landing Festival. How come you don't know about such an important festival?" The woman said with a look of surprise on her face.

Charles looked up at the awning above. "It's so bright outside, are we going to build a bonfire?"

"Of course. This is an old custom to celebrate the Governor. For the Governor, burning a few more pieces of wood is nothing. It is because of him that we can enjoy such a peaceful life." The woman's face was filled with happiness.

"When did you get here? How was your day?"

"My daughter and I came here three years ago. We were originally planning to go to the Crown of the World, but then we unexpectedly saved some money, so we came to take a look at the new island. It was a great decision to make." There was no trace of sadness on her face, and her face was filled with happiness.

"Oh? Is this island nice?" Elizabeth asked with some surprise.

"On this island, I have a job and can afford bread, rent a house, and no one bullies us. That's enough. I can raise my daughter with peace of mind."

Elizabeth, who is also the governor of the island, was a little dissatisfied. "This requirement can also be met on other islands, such as Icha Island."

The man shook his head. "It's not so easy to find a job on other islands, and the laws on other islands are just for show. If an islander breaks the law, he will be released as long as he pays money. But it's not like that on Hope Island. Even if you are an islander, if you break the law, you will be punished."

After saying goodbye to the woman, Charles felt inexplicably in a good mood.

He didn't expect that an unintentional action of his could change so much.

Once a decree is issued, it must be obeyed. However, for such a simple matter, the people of Earthsea seem to be hearing it for the first time.

Charles suddenly felt that being a good governor was not that difficult.

Perhaps because of the festival, the island was very lively. The two drank banana wine, ate crab legs and watched an outdoor drama together.

Elizabeth held Charles' arm like a little bird, with a hint of happiness on her face. "It's great. I really want it to last forever."

Seeing Charles turned his head to look at her, she stretched out a finger and gently placed it on his lips.

"I know. You don't need to explain anything to me. I still say that I don't mean to pester you. Go and do your thing. If you ever get tired, come back and I'll always wait for you."

Charles used to think that the relationship between the two was more about her gratitude to him for giving her the island, but now it seems more complicated.

For the next period of time, Charles completely put everything aside and took Elizabeth on a relaxing tour on Hope Island. He even went to the New Territories City to satisfy her curiosity.

The long period of relaxation allowed Charles to relax his tense spirit. Perhaps it was because of the location on the island or because of Elizabeth's gentle company, but the various abnormalities in his brain were alleviated a lot.

But things soon changed, and a strange ship slowly sailed into the dock of Hope Island.
