Shrouded Seascape

Chapter 30: God

Charles froze in place for three full seconds before he was awakened by the prayers of the bandage.

He looked down and saw that the first mate Bandage had come to his side at some point and was kneeling down to worship the Giant Eye in the sky.

Charles gritted his teeth and stumbled into the cockpit, grabbing the bandage.

Charles, with a livid face, did not answer. He closed the hatch and quickly operated the instruments with his hands. The lights on the Narwhal quickly disappeared and the exploration ship merged into the darkness.

At this moment, the second mate's voice came from the communication tube, "Captain, what happened up there? Why did you start—"

The next second, the second mate's voice became extremely terrified, "Oh my God, have we encountered the "God" in the darkness? We are finished, we are completely finished!!"

"Second mate! Shut up!" Charles, with veins bulging on his face, roared into the pipe.

The first mate next to him was shaking uncontrollably, his bandaged body curled up on the ground, still mumbling an unclear prayer.

Charles rushed over to the sound, covered his mouth with his hand, and said in a low voice: "That's not your Futan God! Don't you see that thing is in the sky?"

In the darkness of the cabin, a tense atmosphere began to spread. Apart from the sound of rapid breathing, there was no other sound.

After a few minutes, Dipper's low voice came from the side, as if he was suppressing some emotion.

"Captain, what kind of god did you just see? How about we pray to it? I heard that if we meet a 'god' and pray sincerely, it will let us go."

Charles didn't say anything. He didn't know what kind of god that was. He didn't want to know what that thing was. He just wanted that thing outside to go away quickly.

"Buzz..." A low resonant sound came from the dark sky.

This sound made everyone on the ship feel creepy and their scalps tingled. A moment after the sound, strange noises were heard from the deck outside, and they became more and more frequent.

"Damn it! Something's on board!"

Charles' heart suddenly tightened. He knew that he could not just sit there and wait for death. If this continued, everyone on the ship would die.

He made up his mind, rushed to various instruments and instantly turned on all the light sources.

Outside the glass, a red mass of flesh was crawling and wriggling, coming from nowhere, lying on the deck and devouring the bright yellow "snow".

"Chief Engineer! Turbine overload! Let's get out of this damn place at full speed!"

The dormant Narwhal let out a low hum and climbed rapidly.

Seeing the deformed monsters on the deck jumping into the sea one after another, Charles was not happy at all. The thing in the sky was the danger. He didn't dare to look to see if the thing was still there. One eyeball could cover half of the sky. It was hard for him to imagine how big the owner of the eye was. Now the only thing he could do was to try his best to escape.

Suddenly, the Narwhal shook violently, and the bandages and Dipper beside them fell heavily against the wall. Then, a noise and screams came from the pipes in the turbine compartment.

"Captain!! Something is stuck in the turbine compartment! The second turbine is dead!"

A harsh sound of metallic friction was heard, and outside the glass, several huge pillars like fingers stretched down from the air and grabbed the hull.

Then Charles found that his ship was not moving and was slowly rising. Something had grabbed the Narwhal.

"Fuck! This is the ship I take home! You'll have to step over my dead body to take it away!" The furious Charles no longer cared about anything else, suddenly pulled the searchlight upwards, and rushed to the deck regardless of everything.

The thing that caught the Narwhal was its insect foot, and the eye you just saw was the spot on the butterfly's wings. As the wings flapped, dots of bright yellow scales fell from the sky.

Although the monster in front of him was very oppressive, Charles actually showed a smile on his face. The gods in the sky were not some bullshit gods. He was almost deceived. A monster, no matter how big it was, was just a beast.

A low-frequency resonance was heard again, and the giant moth's other legs stabbed towards the searchlight. It seemed that it hated the strong light.

Charles quickly rushed to the deck gun, "Lily, load and unload the shells for me!"

By the time the shells were loaded and unloaded, the Narwhal was already seven or eight meters away from the sea surface.

We can't let it hook the boat again! Charles moved the muzzle to point at the giant foot inserted into the side of the ship.

"Hold on tight!" After a loud bang, the insect's legs formed of black chitin exploded instantly, and red and green insect juice splashed all over the sky.

The Narwhal in mid-air slammed heavily into the water, causing waves. If it were a wooden boat, it would have fallen apart by now.

Regardless of his bleeding jaw, Charles shouted excitedly to the cockpit: "Sail! Sail!"

"Captain! Look behind you!" Dipper in the cockpit was standing in front of the glass, waving his hands in panic.

When Charles turned around, he saw a giant butterfly with one leg broken off appearing right in front of the bow. The two antennae on its head were trembling, and its humming sounds were getting louder and louder, as if it was enraged.

"Still want to come, right? Sure! I'll accompany you to the end!" With a hint of madness, Charles adjusted the muzzle of the gun and pointed it at the hideous insect head of the giant butterfly.

Just when the atmosphere around was tense to the extreme, a sea column three times larger than the giant butterfly suddenly rose up from the sea surface between the two sides.

The sea water suddenly exploded, and a translucent hand with evil patterns, as huge as a mountain, appeared on the water.

The moment he saw the palm, Charles immediately heard a deafening whisper in his ears. Everything in front of him began to distort the self-awareness in his mind and it was quickly dissipating.

With a strong wind, the palm that blocked out the sun and the sky slapped the giant butterfly. When the giant palm touched the water surface, huge waves rose high and turned into a violent tsunami that covered the Narwhal.

In a trance, Charles saw a giant walking between heaven and earth. His whole body was green, his soft head had countless tentacles, his forelimbs were like soft claws, and his hideous, mucus-filled mouth extended from his chin to his belly.

"Boom!" Huge waves rushed onto the deck and pushed Charles, who was standing there, into the sea. Dipp, who was standing in the cockpit, saw this scene and jumped down.

"Captain! Wake up! Captain!!"

Charles slowly opened his eyes and found that he had returned to the captain's room without knowing when.

"Huh~" Seeing Charles open his eyes, the crew members present all breathed a sigh of relief, and Lily even cried with excitement.

Charles ignored the pain in his head and asked the second mate next to him, "Is it safe now? Where are we now?"

The red-haired young man smiled bitterly, "It's safe, but I don't know where it is now..."
