Shrouded Seascape

Chapter 323: Prepare

"Whoosh~!" A cannonball with black flames flew over Charles' head and slammed heavily on the shed behind him, leaving a large hole that continued to emit black smoke.

Suddenly, exclamations and screams of the islanders were heard from inside the cave.

Those were cannonballs fired from the Deep Diver's sunken ship. Although no one knew what was inside, it was dangerous and deadly.

The Hope Island Navy would naturally not just sit there and watch. Whether it was the artillery on the shore or the steamship on the sea, they quickly turned their guns and began to attack the sunken ship.

In the cold sea water, as bubbles continued to roll, more shipwrecks continued to float up.

For a moment, the entire sea was in chaos, with constant sounds of gunfire and artillery fire, and the islands around Hope Island were suddenly in turmoil.

"Mr. Charles, should we go and help?" Lily, who was held in his hand, asked with her head raised.

Staring at the motionless octopus head on the boat, Charles shook his head.

"No rush. The other side has no intention of starting a decisive battle right away. Let's go and take a look at the overall situation first."

Charles stepped on the shed and rushed quickly to the east.

Soon they arrived at the easternmost part of Hope Island. Charles used the black blade to cut through the thick shed and jumped directly down.

Below was a tall, square white building, with people in blue navy uniforms moving quickly around inside.

Charles' arrival immediately caused the people on guard below to draw their pistols and point them at him, but when they saw that it was their own governor, they immediately stood still and saluted.

Charles ignored them and hurried towards the command room.

"Beep... beep..." The sound of telegraphs continuously reached Charles' ears. In this underground command room of more than 100 square meters, there were at least a dozen telegraphs quickly receiving news from other places on the island or on the ship.

Feuerbach followed several men in military uniforms and stood in front of a huge sand table, looking at it constantly.

It was a simple model of Hope Island, with the number and offensive power of the enemies around it quickly marked out.

"The enemy has landed on the island from the 4 o'clock direction! The first line of defense and the second direction have been breached!"

"Send a telegram to Chief James and have them dispatch two squadrons of police to block the area. As long as they can hold out for a few minutes, support from nearby warships will arrive soon."

After a bearded man finished shouting loudly, he stood on a simulated nautical chart and quickly deduced with his right palm which was missing several fingers.

The other four men did the same thing as the bearded man. They commanded the entire battle in an orderly and swift manner, and they cooperated well with each other.

"Captain, why are you here?" Feuerbach still looked relaxed, as if he had not felt any tension about the impending war.

"What's the overall situation? Is everything okay?" Charles asked as he looked at the ever-changing deduction chart.

"Of course, no problem. Just like I told you a few days ago, we have made all the necessary preparations. These monsters are going to capture our island. Dream on."

"Wake up, don't forget that they are not human. If Hope Island is captured, all men will be sacrificed to their evil gods, and all women, regardless of age, will be used as breeding tools."

"Have the clan members considered this? They are not moving now, maybe they are plotting something."

The bearded man who was directing the attack stood up and said to Mr. Charles in a neither humble nor arrogant manner: "The lookout has reported their current location. I have asked the three police departments and the best in the navy to form a temporary assault team to keep an eye on them. It will be absolutely foolproof."

"Don't let your guard down. The enemy's individual strength is very strong."

The bearded man was not polite at all. "Governor, please let professionals handle this matter. Instead of causing trouble here, why don't you go ask those charlatans of the Church of Light why they haven't made any move at all? You are the only one who can intervene in this situation."

"They didn't do anything?" Charles, frowning, immediately turned around and rushed towards the church of the Church of Light.

Looking at Charles's leaving back, Feuerbach walked up to the bearded man with a smile and patted his big belly with his hand.

"Be polite to the Governor-General. After all, he is our leader."

"Can you fight a good war if you are more polite? Do you still care about these things when it's a matter of life and death? The only thing a soldier can show himself is real combat achievements, not some messy things." After the bearded man finished speaking, he continued to look at the battle map in front of him.

Feuerbach shrugged his shoulders and said nothing.

After a while, the telegraph soldier nearby immediately reported: "All the ships of the Church of Light have gone out to sea and are fighting with the group of fishmen."

The bearded man slammed the table excitedly, "Great, notify Commodore Jimmy and ask him to withdraw his fleet first. We must prepare some warships for deployment."

Charles stood on a roof, watching the airships fly into the sky and the warships sail into the sea.

Cardinal Huon stood beside him and said in a flattering tone, "Governor Charles, we wanted to help, but when we saw that the navy's deployment was already in place, we did not join in the fun, fearing that it would disrupt your battle plan."

Charles turned his head and looked at the white-haired old man. He didn't intend to tell whether what he said was true or false. "How long will it take for your Pope to come?"

Although the battle seemed to be at a stalemate, Charles was still unsure. If a powerful Pope arrived, it would be the final word.

"It should be soon. I'm really sorry. As you know, the Cathedral of Holy Light is too far away from Hope Island, and there is no ocean current between them."

Charles sighed slightly. It turned out that he had to rely on himself at this time.

After quickly determining the direction, he put Lily in his hand on the ground and walked quickly towards the direction of the clan member closest to him.

My own strength is also quite good. Instead of waiting here, it would be better for me to go down and bring some changes to the whole battle situation.

Lily ran on all fours as fast as she could, as if trying to catch up, but was quickly left behind by Charles.

"Go back to the island and let all your rats come out of the sewers to help guard the shore!!" Charles said without turning his head.

He arrived at the beach and without stopping, he rushed towards the distant green shipwreck with his feet on the waves.
