Shrouded Seascape

Chapter 36: Duke

Views:

Seeing the vampires dressed as boatmen ready to make a move, James, who was standing behind Charles, quickly grew bigger. He picked up a piece of steel as thick as a bowl in one hand and put it on his shoulder. The commotion immediately subsided.

Charles turned his head and looked at the blind man next to him, "When will the two dukes you mentioned arrive?"

"Normally, they are in the mausoleum in the center of the island. It might take half a day to get there,"

"very good."

Charles pointed at the Narwhal next to him and said to the vampire factory manager in front of him: "I'll give you three hours to install the turbine. Otherwise, Durand will be your fate."

A bearded guy among the boatmen stood up and said excitedly: "This is impossible! Do you know how troublesome it is to replace a turbine?"

"Chief Engineer."

As soon as Charles gave the order, a piece of steel behind him whizzed and hit the bearded man.

The twisted body was still trying to heal, but the steel hit the bearded man again and again, smashing him into pulp.

Blood splattered on the remaining vampires, and a trace of fear appeared on everyone's face.

"Do you think I'm easy to talk to? You blood-sucking monsters? Change it now!" Charles suppressed his anger in his words.

The factory director's lips trembled slightly. He wiped the flesh off his face with his hand, then turned and walked towards the Narwhal with the other vampires.

"Second Engineer, you are familiar with the turbines. Keep an eye on them and beware of these things doing something bad."

"Okay, boss." Narwhal's second engineer followed.

Originally, this kind of thing should be called to the chief engineer, but the current chief engineer is too low in intelligence and is not competent for this kind of job. Now James stood there in a daze, intimidating all the vampires.

"Creaky~" The metal door of the shipyard opened a crack, and Dipper looked outside vigilantly.

After a few seconds of simple observation, he turned around and said to Charles who was sitting on the box: "Captain, it seems that the people outside have noticed us. Many people are looking this way."

"Ordrick, won't these people rush in?" Charles asked the blind man while wiping the black blade.

The blind man next to him shook his head. "No, they don't dare to attack the prey that belongs to the Duke. Besides, you are not ordinary humans who can be slaughtered at will. They are all scattered and may not dare to attack you."

Charles suddenly understood something. It seemed that the previous deterrent effect was still there. Even if the vampires outside knew that they were going to escape, they would not dare to act rashly without someone leading them.

"How strong is the Duke?" Charles inquired about the approaching enemy.

"The strength of the vampires is divided according to their age. The older they are, the more experience they have and the stronger they are. To become a duke, one must be at least 500 years old. They are completely different from us in nature. If they want to, they can easily kill thousands of ordinary vampires."

Five hundred years old? Charles was a little surprised. With such an age, did he know something about the Bright Continent

After hearing Charles's guess, Orderic shook his head.

"You can only ask the mistress about this situation. All the vampires on our island were created by her first embrace, and she is the only one who has been to that cursed place. I heard that light can be seen everywhere there, and the slightest touch will burn you to ashes. I really don't know how the mistress survived."

"Then why did your mistress come to this place?"

Charles was stunned for a moment, he had never thought that this was how these vampires came about.

Blind Audric couldn't see Charles's expression and continued talking.

"But that being deceived the mistress. This place is not only inhabited by humans, but also by all kinds of beings that are far more powerful than our blood race. Even for the blood race, it is very difficult to survive in such a place. The mistress hates him very much."

Hearing about an existence much more powerful than the Vampire Mistress, Charles instinctively thought of the giant palm rising from the sea that made people irresistible.

"How much do you know about the world before your mistress? Which country is your mistress from? How many suns are there in the sky?" Charles asked several questions in a row. He hoped to infer the age and environment of the current surface through details.

Audric smiled bitterly. "Mr. Charles, I am only 124 years old and still very young. And I'm sure you have seen my status among the vampires. I have no way of knowing these questions."

Charles let out a sigh and walked towards the Narwhal with some melancholy. This answer was expected.

If I want to know the answer now, I have no choice but to confront the mistress of the blood clan face to face, but think about it, it is impossible, unless I am tired of living.

Lily, who was listening intently, saw Charles leaving, and approached Audric and asked curiously: "So your mistress came to this island just to avoid the crisis? How pitiful."

"No, we are here to avoid humans. Humans are becoming more powerful, and the conflicts between them and the vampires are getting bigger and bigger. The mistress foresaw the upcoming decisive battle and left with her offspring. In fact, we have a symbiotic relationship with humans. If you die, we will not be able to survive without food."

"So what do you do with your food? Eat rats?"

"In the northern part of Dark Crystal Island, we have a group of humans who need to provide a certain amount of blood every week, but it's really too expensive... Usually, we can only force ourselves to eat some human food while suppressing our nausea."

As time passed, more and more vampires roamed outside the shipyard.

At this time they no longer hid, revealing two long blood-sucking fangs from their mouths, and the bloodthirsty look in their eyes was not concealed at all.

Although they did not rush in, Charles still felt a lot of pressure when he saw the circles of vampires outside.

"How long will it take? Hurry up if you don't want to die!" Charles' roar echoed in the shipyard.

"Right away, right away! We're putting in the rivets." The factory director, with sweat on his forehead, urged his subordinates frantically.

At this moment, the sound of flapping wings outside the door reached the ears of everyone in the shipyard.

Charles quickly rushed to a window and looked outside. He saw a large group of black bats approaching this side in the air. The vampires outside the door cheered at the bats in the air.

The bats quickly fell to the ground and condensed into a black cloak with a red stand-up collar, which was draped over a man and a woman.

"Fuck!" The annoyed Charles guessed the identities of these two guys without anyone explaining.

"Didn't you say it would take half a day? Why are you here in just two hours?"
