Charles felt creepy when listening to Tuba's laughter. He looked at his navigator and asked slowly, "Tuba, what are you laughing at?"
Tuba, who was laughing wildly, suddenly froze, turned his head quickly to look at Charles, and said in a very happy voice: "Of course we should laugh when we encounter good things. We defeated them and got so many good things. Why should we cry?"
After all this time, he was laughing like a bad guy. It wasn't like he had accomplished any great conspiracy, he was just simply happy.
Charles resisted the urge to roll his eyes and said anxiously, "Now is not the time to be happy. The matter has been resolved. Send us out quickly."
He has been in this damn place for too long, and now he just wants to get out as soon as possible.
"Why rush? These things have been specially fermented and are very easy to absorb." Tuba said, pointing to a pile of human corpses on the ground.
Among these people, they were wearing all kinds of clothes, had all kinds of looks, were of different heights, and there were even people wearing the foundation's white coats.
"Hiss!" Tuba sucked hard, and a girl next to him who looked only seven or eight years old was sucked into his mouth.
He chewed it as if he was eating something, with a look of extreme satisfaction on his face. He touched his cheeks with both hands and said, "Hmm~ This is good, it tastes sweet."
"Charles, you try it too, each one tastes different." Tuba said as he grabbed a child from the ground and pinched him quickly. The child's body instantly faded and turned into a ball of mist.
"Stop it, I don't eat people." Charlton showed a hint of resistance on his face.
"These are not human beings. Their consciousness has long dissipated." Tuba said as he raised the mist ball in his hand and threw it at Charles. Before Charles could react, the thing hit him accurately in the mouth.
The next second, Charles' eyes suddenly went dark, and he felt himself wrapped in a warm liquid. Everything around him was extremely quiet. He liked this feeling and wanted to stay like this forever.
He didn't know how much time had passed, but he felt the warm liquid around him beginning to disappear. He felt a little panic and began to struggle.
With a "rustle", he came out of that warm place. Everything around him was very strange. He instinctively felt a little panic, so he began to cry.
Then, he felt a weak woman holding him in her arms. "David, my child. We finally meet. Oh, you look like a hairless monkey."
He liked the smell of this person, and the panic gradually disappeared, and he instinctively moved towards the person.
As time passed, he learned that the gentle woman was his mother, and he also learned his name was David, Humphry David.
David lived a carefree childhood. During this time, everything was colorful, interesting and fun.
The only things he thinks about every day, apart from eating, is finding ways to avoid studying. His life is simple yet fulfilling.
Before David knew it, it was his seventh birthday. It was a sunny day, and to celebrate, his bearded father carried David on his shoulders and went to the beach to play with sand.
He sat on the beach, concentrating on building a castle with some new friends. At this moment, joy filled his heart and he laughed out loud.
Suddenly the sky darkened, David looked up with eyes wide open, and was horrified to find that the blue sea in the distance suddenly stood up, so high that it even blocked the ball of light in the sky.
"Daddy! Wuuuuuu!! Sea!!" Charles at the bottom of the sea cried and rushed forward. It was not until Anna grabbed his shoulders and shook him that Charles came to his senses.
Everything that just happened was so real, as if he had really spent seven years as a child. He could even feel the special sweetness of the waffles drizzled with maple syrup on his birthday in his mouth.
But on the other side, Charles saw that his body, which was supposed to be only a head left, had grown back, and even his clothes were restored.
“I am Charles… I am not David… I am Charles… I am not…” Charles held his head with a painful expression and kept repeating these words.
When Anna saw Charles in so much pain, the expression on her face suddenly became a little ferocious. She helped Charles sit on the ground and rushed towards Tuba who was still swallowing in the distance.
But she had only taken two steps when Charles stopped her.
Charles, who had recovered his spirit, stood up again and said with a serious tone, "Wait, we can't go back now."
"What did you say? Why?" Anna was very surprised at Charles' sudden change of attitude.
Charles pointed at the people around him and said with a hint of excitement, "I know what they do. If we eat them, we can get their memories."
"What does this have to do with us? Have you forgotten that your crew is still out there fighting those sea otters?"
Charles shook his head and pointed to his right. "Look, there are people from the Foundation here. We can search their memories to find the key to that huge door."
"Are you sure there are no side effects from eating these things?" Anna looked hesitant.
Recalling his previous split spirit, Charles shook his head. "That memory was very real. I had some cognitive impairment when I first came out, but I just need to rest for a while and it will be fine."
As soon as Charles finished speaking, Anna gently hooked with her tentacles, and a fat man next to her floated directly towards her. Before he turned into gas, Anna's mouth instantly opened larger than a person's and swallowed him directly into her stomach.
Just one second later, her body softened with a painful expression and she fell to the ground, her human-shaped body showing signs of collapse.
"Gina! Why, why did you do this to me!!" Anna seemed unable to get out of the emotion of that memory.
After a long while, Anna slowly regained consciousness. She wiped the tears from her face with her hands and turned her head with some surprise to look at Tuba who was eating happily in the distance.
"He didn't react at all? Is this guy a monster?"
Charles could not answer this question. Tuba was like a farmer harvesting crops in the fields, eating with great pleasure.
All the intense emotions in his memory seemed to have no effect on him at all.
